Nothing will meaningfully improve until the rich fear for their lives

Nothing will meaningfully improve until the rich are no longer rich.

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

That's a fantasy. What we could do is stop voting the party that does things like remove healthcare coverage from 17 million people so it can give more tax cuts to billionaires.

But we insist on saying both sides are the "same" instead.

Which is why usually there was laws to prevent them from doing whatever they wanted but that's out the window.

Fear not, there's a lot of gun enthusiasts, ready to fight against tiranny!

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

One can be more true though, and the latter clearly is.

And all they have to do is take over the Diet Coke factories. The Orange will be powerless after that.

Law only exists to control those lower in the hierarchy than the ones who hold ruling authority over its enforcement and interpretation.

Not a great example to compare yourself to. He was actually the lying, asshole, bad guy the whole time.

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

He was a villain in that he was a threat to his ex-wife and child, but his position on society up until that’s revealed is spot on.

[–] BigPotato@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Yeah, but he killed a Nazi and a rich golfing asshole. And he got to die too, so like, win win win. Three less assholes in the world, minimum.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Thank you for recognizing Trump for who he really is

A 3rd of your household income? I pay 53% of my income plus 21% taxes on everything I buy.

Have fun just leave the McDonald's breakfast crew alone

The 'incident' at the corner store is uh, not great either, eh?

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Circulate this on right-wing sites and social media, not Lemmy.

We need more conservatives and liberals realizing that they're in a class war, not a race war.

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 days ago

Lemmy is still full of conservatives and liberals. Just not as inundated as other places. This meme still serves its purpose being posted here.

I used to kind of be against tax evasion, after passage of the big bunch of bullshit bill I'm philosophically on the side of small time federal tax evaders. Nobody should be funding this government and its massive hand jibber program for the rich. The federal tax code has completely become a way to redistribute money upwards.

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Taxation becoming automated and controlled by our place of employment is exactly why it is paramount that workers own our places of employment even more so than in the past.

If we own our places of employment, we can collectively refuse to continue funding this fascist regime and utilize those funds for our own local, grass-roots initiatives.

Just want to say that employers don't actually control your withholdings. By law, you can submit a new W-4 to change your withholdings at any time. In fact, it's often built-in to HR software to make it even easier to do.

Of course, you still have to contend with the IRS come tax time if you underpay through the year.

You telling me the street fell apart in two days?

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Never lived in South Carolina? It shows. Road functions. Barely. Then the afternoon rainstorm happens. Then the road fails. Giant pothole, sinkhole, 36 inch tree fell, it's two feet under water, road no longer exists because it was washed out, bridge suddenly missing. Happens all the time.

I used to think Hampton Roads / Tidewater was bad with its water depth markers on the edge of roads to let you know if you were about to drive your tail pipe or be completely submerged. But then I moved to Lesser Carolina. Whole new level of difficulty.

Went to a convention for the weekend. Getting back took four times as long as we had to consult every available live resource to see what roads were open and still existed. Because hurricanes are a thing that happens here.

So, in summary, fuck yes. Roads fall apart in two days.

It was a quote from Falling Down (the movie in the post) but that fucking sucks :(

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I know the movie. My friends used to joke that I would try to recreate it in real life. But I felt that I needed to demonstrate exactly how the roads fail in two days.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I have literally seen that happen for many roads recently "repaired" by the poorer county to the south of mine. They don't seal them or repave them; they drop a bunch of loose gravel into the potholes which just gets thrown out after a few hours of vehicles driving over it and widens the potholes.

Looks like you're not alone!

Has this community ever defended Pelosi or Schumer?
