Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

This is my first job after graduating (last year; I’m currently pursuing a master’s). I’ve been working at this company since last autumn as an accountant. Technically, this guy isn’t my direct boss since the CFO runs our department, but he’s the CEO - the top executive - so I consider him everyone’s boss in a way. I only met him about two months ago by chance, and he struck up a conversation. Then we ran into each other again, and so on… Apparently, he enjoys my company, so we’ve been hanging out and talking outside of work over the past month. It’s been fun, but there’s obviously a power dynamic there.

I really don't like the design of the progress pride flag, and I couldn't really put my finger on it until I saw this: https://nava.org/good-flag-bad-flag

For reference, here is the flag I'm referencing as "bad flag":

And here is the original:

So, the original has too many colors, but it's the colors of the rainbow. In order. It's recognizable from really far away, and it's dead simple to draw.

With the Intersex flag, that's 14 colors. There are three shades of "purple". The circle won't be visible from far away. The chevrons are too thin to be very recognizable from far away.

It's not like there aren't good pride flags. Like there are AMAZING ones:

Edit:

In case you don't know what these are: https://flagsforgood.com/collections/pride-flags

You know the scene. Two characters (usually a somewhat harmless looking protagonist against a burly big tough guy) start to fight. A crowd forms around them.

"5 bucks on the big strong guy.", says one person in the crowd.

"10 bucks on the obvious winner.", another crowd member bets on the same.

"100 bucks the underdog main character wins.", shouts a supporting character also in the crowd. The others look at him in disbelief.

Then the fight happens, underdog wins, and we cut to the supporting character with a wad of cash in hand being really smug.

What's the logistics of that money exchange? Like, if there was a bookie keeping track of who bet how much on what, and doing the pay outs, that would obviously work. Or if people individually accepted each others bets. But these stories always just display people shouting, and then the winner with the money. Is this shouting style betting actually based in reality, or is it just a nice dramatization for entertainment purposes?

Is it possible? If so, what would the ramp length and height need to be?

They are citing ONS figures of excess deaths as proof the vaccines are killing people. I tried to explain that not being able to get a doctor's appointment, staying home and getting fat, etc explain the figures (official sources have said it too) but they said it's "gaslighting" and then said their family doctor wouldn't get the vaccine.

I don't know if this is normal or not because when I was a little girl I had a difficult childhood, and I was diagnosed with depression when I was 12. The depression seems to be gone now, but what seems to be lingering is this "blindfolded on a rollercoaster" feeling. It's where I get mood swings that last only a few hours at most, and after the mood swing has ended I'm back to normal like nothing happened. My opinions of myself and world views will change just as rapidly and I'm basically having this constant battle with an inner voice that's in my head constantly telling me conflicting things.

"Adults who cry need to grow up" "crying is a mature and healthy way to express sadness" "no it's not, if I see even a family member who is crying over someone dying I'll tell them to grow up and walk out the room smiling because I'm right. I am very good" "no that's terrible, you should be compassionate to your fellow human beings" + (rinse/repeat)

"You're a bad person, you deserve bad things happening to you, stop trying to be good" "you're a good person you deserve to enjoy things and feel happy" + (rinse/repeat)

"You don't deserve to have a boyfriend, imagine him having to put up with you" "you deserve to have a boyfriend, you need someone to love and keep you company" + (rinse/repeat)

This always results in confusion, like I don't know who or what I am, and then I get angry. No joke, I've thrown and broken things during this. Sometimes, my inner voice tells me I'm stupid or slow. So then I'll think "you think I'm slow? I'll prove you wrong. I'm the best" I then speed things up and rush things which sometimes causes accidents.

My mood is very sensitive to certain things. Like if I said something that sounded a bit weird I'll kick myself over it, if someone left a conversation early my inner voice is like "look what you did, you made it awkward and now that person finds you weird and doesn't like you" "I need to slap this person now" and I'll get angry and then when that person comes back to me and explains "sorry I had to leave the conversation early to check on something" and they're normal with me that feeling instantly goes away. Sometimes my inner voice mimics things bullies have said to be long in the past and it's in their voice. Sometimes my inner voice mimics my parent's voices.

I feel like I'm constantly being harassed by my inner voice and I don't know which side is the real me. Whenever I tell people about how my inner voice is, they just look at me weird like "huh", so I get the impression that this is normal and I just suck at dealing with it but I find it mentally exhausting when I have a particularly active day of this.

I'm using Chrome, a PC, and os is Windows 10.

I restarted my PC after clearing a bunch of PUP files MalwareBytes detected, and since I restarted all my gmail passwords are gone, yet all my other passwords (unrelated to gmail, like Lemmy passwords) are intact and saved in Google Password Manager. Google Password Manager isn't even listing my gmail passwords. It's literally like I never created the email accounts in the first place and whenever I Google this it just comes up with irrelevant stuff, like Sync issues.

Before, if I went to gmail.com there'd be a list of accounts, and if I clicked on those accounts it'd automatically sign me in, now there's none.

What laptop computers should I look for if I wanna use YunoHost to host Lemmy without much difficulty? I’m only bringing less than $200 with me, maybe $160-$180.

Growing up, I didn't really question why this band would be played along side Nirvana, Bush, Soundgarden, Linkin Park, etc. because my radio station of choice was not just grunge, but also "adult alternative." So it would play pop shit, too, sometimes.

But I still, to this day, often find U2 listed among grunge artists, or their songs get played on grunge playlists. The fuck? How is this shit grunge? It doesn't fit in any way! It doesn't have the sound, it doesn't have the style, shit it doesn't even have the same emotional resonance. It's happy and hopeful.

This might've already been addressed by the artist but I dont use social media so I wouldn't know.

Reading through the wikipedia page on leetspeak because it's a slow day at work and something caught my eye:

Am I tripping for making the connection to Charli XCX's brat album from last year? Would definitely be on brand for the artist.

We, as humans, consider ourselves intelligent life. Other mammals, reptiles, fish, birds, etc. are all considered life. Rocks, metals, gases, etc. are not considered life, they are considered to be non-living things. Towns, cities, and Earth itself is not considered life but are composed of many lives to create larger communities.

But we as humans are made of cells, just as a population is made of humans. If you were a cell, the human body would be more like a city. Just as we do not consider cities as living organisms the human would not be too. Likewise, if you were a population, humans would be more like cells, only considered to be a part of yourself.

And if you become a simpler single-celled organism, you would consider yourself an intelligent organism, and multi-cellular organism would be like giant cities. But what would be “non-intelligent” life?

You are what we humans consider as the least intelligent life there is, so perhaps what we consider non-living objects could be considered as “non-intelligent life” in the perspective of a single celled organism. A “half-living” thing like a virus would be, to something like a bacterium, a bit like how humans consider some animals to me “semi-intelligent”: arguably has consciousness and can feel emotions and form social connections, but unable to do things like critical thinking and problem solving.

Perhaps everything can be considered “life” and we are all but naive little bald monkeys that are part of a greater organism that we call Earth.

Requirements:

  • Able to pirate books and load them on
  • Nice if it can integrate with my arr stack (Sonarr, Radarr, etc)
  • reasonably priced
  • not locked down to anything

That’s it really just a simple e-reader that I can add what I want.

Edit: this is the first post where I got a lot of comments where I wasn’t too overwhelmed to reply to them all. Hard when you wake up to so many replies but trying to be better thanking people for their input.

I think progressives never thought about this because we banked on immigration and demographic change allowing us to win culturally and electorally but the issue is immigrants tend to be overwhelmingly male, that is how Trump won actually he won over a lot of Hispanic,Black,Asian and indigenous men who feel humiliated by a new culture, economy and world.

So what can we do rhetorically and policy wise to win more young men over ?

It sounds like a motorbike throttling up and down. very very annoying. I've scanned with MalwareBytes, nothing. I've updated my drivers and this is still happening. I've even underclocked and undervolted my graphics card and set it into a low power mode to try and stifle the usage but to no avail.

is there any way I can literally force the 3D usage down while my computer is idle? My computer isn't running any program that uses 3D models right now. but it's like my GPU thinks it's running some 3D game. hella weird

edit it's not the fan making the noise either, I've manually activated the fan to see if the fan is causing the noise, and it's a separate nose to the one annoying me. the noise I'm hearing is a more grind-y noise like a motorbike or propeller airplane that keeps going in and out

Its 1/6 to roll a 7 with two 6-sided dice. You can get weighted dice that make it more likely to land on a certain number.

Does having one weighted dice change the odds at all? My gut says no but reality is a tricky bitch and I'm convinced im wrong somehow.

I had an online ex when i was 13. He was 33 but pretended to be a teenage boy. He confessed to me that he was actually in his 30s and that he still missed his ex who was in his 20s (22-23?) and that it was wrong for him to talk to me at my age (true).

He eventually showed his real face, which i forgot about, on his instagram (which has either been deleted by him or i forgot the username anyway). He then told me it was my fault because i guilt-tripped him into dating me and also “groomed” him, even though i didn’t make him feel bad at all. I liked him and he showed an interest, i thought he was like 14.

For a creature that's known for their fashion choices of wearing a white sheet, you'd think there would be more racist ghosts.

They come from a time when it was socially acceptable to be openly racist. Plus, if you go back about 1000 years or so, it was socially acceptable to just murder entire villages because your people didn't like their people.

But anytime you see a ghost, it's always like "oooOOOooooOOOO!! I HAVE UNFINISHED BUSINESS ON EARTH!!!"

Like, seriously??? Why would a ghost give a fuck if his finances weren't paid before they died?

And, can we talk about ghostbusters for a second? That one judge was like "Oooh, those are the famous criminals that were brothers! I sent them to death row"

But meanwhile they look NOTHING like humans. But somehow he instantly recognizes them. Are we led to believe they looked like ghoulish monsters when they were alive?

And the librarian looks like a human corpse. So, still human, but, like, after her body has been dead a few weeks. Are we to believe she died, and then her spirit stayed inside her rotting corpse of a body and THEN became a ghost, and retained it's final form?

Either way......never seen a racist ghost. Which I think has to be statistically impossible.

My home instance is shutting down soon.

https://lemm.ee/post/65824884.

I am slightly unclear about what the instance admin meant.

Because of how Lemmy is built, everything posted on lemm.ee will still be accessible from other instances, even after we go offline.

How are other Lemmy instance able to access the content from the post-shutdown lemm.ee?

Do all the other Lemmy instances keep a copy of the content from lemm.ee?

If so, wouldn't that be rather taxing on each Lemmy instance? (since they have to keep a copy of all the content from all instances they federate with).

I tried reading this up by researching on Lemmy federation, but this is still unclear to me.

Horses and bulls make a bit of sense, big animals make big poos. Calling something a big poo means it is very stinky, a huge waste, etc. Very yucky. But bat poos? Those are teeny tiny, small bats make small poos. What do people have against the poos of bats?

Also, what about larger animals? Whale poos are huge, and yaks, buffalos, etc. all make big poos. Don't ask me how I know.
