Hi! Just wondering how you folk were feeling today.

As for me, I had a rough last few weeks, but on Friday I started getting out of my funk thanks to the much needed and valued support of a friend.

Finally feeling a bit better today after getting part of my mess together. I still have some stuff to fix before I feel well, but the improvement is nice.

This got me to thinking how you guys were doing, cause idk. Talking about how I was feeling and the problems I've been facing with my friend helped me a lot. I thought a space to share or vent might help someone else.

Would really appreciate it if we tried to keep it supportive and non judgmental too. We don't know what it's like for others, after all. Thanks in advance. <3

So anyway, how are you?

Edit: Gonna go get something to eat now and have to get some work done, but will be back in a few hours. Take care and thanks to all of you that have shared!

I am all about minimalism and try to live a bit of a minimalist lifestyle. I know I live as one person in a small-ish apartment, so there's no point to me in having to get things that would involve groups. Like there was a time when I got lots of board games, card games, kitchen appliances like an 8 quart air-fryer and a large size slow cooker. Like who is all of this for? I'm only one person.

So I do pride myself in getting smaller appliances, getting rid of shit when I know I will not have guests ever over. And for the past few weeks, I've been condensing and getting rid of more things that I feel no longer apply to me anymore. I thrift so I have picked up numerous amounts of things that peaked my interest, gotten things because I was thinking of a friend and their interests, gotten things because people online said it was the best thing to get so I sought after it until I had it. Books, movies, games .etc the sort.

But it's like, this shit has been sitting on my shelves and been moved around for years untouched, while I pretty much spend all of my time just doing general life things. Like work, errands and sitting infront of the computer.

And besides the thought of maybe having to move this year, I finally had twisted my own arm to finally get rid of these things as much as I could. Because I don't want to cart these things around again, I did it before. In fact, three years ago before I moved into my apartment, besides clothes, 4 totes were filled with books. Just books. The same books that mostly sat around unread since I unboxed them all.

And I'd like to not do that again, so I donate. I love to give back as much as I can and as much as I like to spend. If I won't give the things I've spent so much time and money for the time of day, fuck it, they should go to places and people where they could be enjoyed.

There's also an article I had read recently, I'll link it here. Because, cutting things out cold turkey never worked for me, because I keep crawling back into wanting that thing again overtime. Though just evaluating where I am, who I am, what the future entails and my ever-changing interests helped a lot more in getting rid of things.

And that's my method. Yours?

Like do they just guesstimate where they'd see the most use?

I don’t understand how wanting to use feminine pronouns for someone femme-presenting and “wanting to be a woman” is “forcing an agenda”? Is respect an agenda now?

Also, it seems like it would give her dysphoria to use he/him pronouns on someone who wants to be the opposite gender (although I realize pronouns =/= gender)

My sister has been repeatedly harassed by a girl she’s been friends with, calling her disgusting, making fun of her disabilities, saying she’s superior to my sister, etc.

Every time my sister loses a game, she screams “HA HA!” despite apparently not caring about her. She’s also very biased towards her (obviously) and said autistic people are “dogs”.

She also makes fun of her for being “poor” (we are middle-class). My sister is among the smartest girls in her grade level, so I wonder if she’s harassing her for a reason like this.

Question is all there in the title. No matter which way I try to sort the feed it seems to be entirely random instead.

i have an old ipad that belonged to my mom, i cannot connect to Apple ID because “verification failed”. I’m trying to do a factory reset on it because it’s mine now and i wanna get it working again, but i have to enter a “restrictions passcode” that no one remembers.

i’m currently trying to restore it by hooking it up to a mac but it just keeps flashing the battery charging symbol and saying “trust this device”. the message quickly goes away and comes back, and i cannot click “yes”.

This meme¹ made the rounds here on Lemmy some days back.

And NSFW artists in the Furry fandom will often talk about how payment processors give them guff.

It holds true in lived memory, but like...

... Why?

I actually understand it for Google Ads and the like -- Google, Metabook, Bytedance et al. are really just advertisement companies with a side-gig in providing online services, and if you're an advertisement company, then "how other corporations perceive you" is what you live and die by, which forces the whole "corporate sanitisation" thing down on the users. -- So like. It does make sense, even if it's hateable.

But for the likes of Visa, and Master Card, and whatnot -- It doesn't? As I understand it their whole thing is they transfer money between parties and take a cut of the transactions. (and also give credit and charge interests on that and such) -- Why the fuck would they care what those transactions are about, so long as people are... Transacting, and thus giving them their cut?

¹ Reuploaded as an image because I couldn't be fucked to find it again.

Sorry if the premise is inflammatory, but I’ve been stymied by this for a while. How did we go from something like 1940s era collectivism or 1960s era leftism to the current bizarro political machine that seems to have hypnotized a large portion (if not majority) of the country? I get it - not everything is bad now, and not everything was good then. FDR’s internment camps, etc.

That said - our country seems to be at a low point in intellectualism and accountability. The DHHS head is an antivaxxer, the deputy chief of the DOJ is a far-right podcast nutball, etc. Their supporters seem to have no nuance to their opinion beyond “well, Trump said he’d fix the economy and I don’t like woke.”

Have people always been this unserious and unquestioning, or are we watching the public’s sanity unravel in real time? Or am I just imagining some idealistic version of the past that never existed, where politicians acted in good faith and people cared about the social order?

I mean, there are two side of the argument.

Pragmatically, fleeing would save your life.

But ethically, it feels cowardly. (I'm not calling anyone a "coward", its just how I internally feel about such an act, if I were the one doing it)

Before you suggest chromecarletters.com those don’t really match the font of the brand.

I’d be happy to learn about any sources for this, but specifically I’m looking for the font used on the back of a Toyota RAV4 which seems to be consistent for the past 15 or so model years. It’d be very cool if someone sold the OEM lettering.

So sorry for the blurry photo... but would anyone help to identify the make/model of this vehicle based on this photo?

I've been trying, but I'm stumped. Not a car person, unfortunately. ):

EDIT: Thank you everyone!!! You've been an awesome help!!

I firmly believe that the blockchain, and a lot of crypto stuff in general, is snake-oil, and a solution in search of a problem, but dns seems like a place where it could be useful. Am I wrong? As a blockchain-hater, I would love to be.

as a new job "perk" at a hospital I get to choose what days I work: because I get differential if I work weekends, I wrote I want to work everyday but Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Now I wonder if I should have chosen Mondays and Fridays. On Mondays people act all stressed out (beginning of the week) and on Fridays they're also insufferable (they all want to go home ASAP)

I've never inverted my weekend like this so if you ever worked like I'm about to, how was it? Any drawbacks?

So since the last 2 days, I've been building the courage up to start doing exercises. I'm starting with weights that were just collecting dust so thought "hell why not, never too late to start getting fit"

Now I'm being realistic knowing that starting off you're not gonna be shredded like a wrestler but I'm just tryna get leaner and fitter body wise.

Is it reasonable for absolute novices to never go to the gym for their exercise and fitness journey? I feel like would be saving some dosh even though I could be missing on some equipment they use there.

A penny for your thoughts?

I don't see the point in doing men's vs women's clothing sizes. Surely there's a big enough variance in size and shape between individuals that it would be more useful to size based off of measurements of body shape?

Take shoes for example. Why is a uk men's size 10 so wildly different from a UK women's size 10?

All it seems to achieve is making shopping for clothes difficult for anyone that doesn't fit into the expected body shape for their gender and make it hard to find well fitting clothes outside of specialist shops.

I often make late-night walks down the street to the convenience store. Due to my work/sleep schedule, I can pretty much only do this late at night.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the same time that the local skunks begin prowling around the undeveloped lot between my home and the convenience store. Luckily, they've not yet gotten close enough to be a threat, but I always worry that one night I won't be so lucky, and I'll accidentally sneak up on one and spook it into spraying me.

I've looked online, and most of the articles I can find on the subject are about how to keep skunks from occupying your property in the first place. Which is great, but I don't own the property they're hanging out in, so I can't do much about that. I couldn't find many articles about skunk encounters that offer much advise beyond "stay away, dummy". Which I obviously plan to do, but life doesn't always go according to plan.

I live in the city, so it's actually kinda weird that there are skunks this close to a populated area. The city life has prevented me from having a lot of experiences with skunks, and honestly I want to keep it that way. But does anybody have any advice on how to help ensure that skunks stay away while walking?

The reason 6Ghz was introduced with WiFi 6E and 7 was because 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz was very busy.

My question is why isn’t there anything in between? Why isn’t there a 3Ghz, 3.5Ghz, 4Ghz, etc?

Also, what if things that require very little data transmission used something lower than 2.4Ghz for longer range? (1Ghz or something?)

And before anyone makes a cheeky "what do you need this for 🤨" comment, I'm a writer. I'm not going to murder anyone I promise, I just want to write a scene where one guy gets poisoned.

I need something that doesn't require modern technology to extract/produce, and would make sense to be avaible in a place with a temperate to mediterranean climate. The slower, the better. Does a plant or something like that exist or do I need to make one up?

Update: I looked into death cap mushrooms and they might be just what I'm looking for! Long reaction time, and being dried doesn't make them less toxic! (the scene takes place in midwinter so no fresh ones would be avaible) If anyone has more info on them, please do share.
