While this is alarming, it seems like such an obvious attempt to distract us from the people in Texas who died from the Republican party's inaction. As well as the revelation that the Epstein suicide video was edited

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 22 points 4 days ago

Pretty sure it's to distract from Alligator Auschwitz as well.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 26 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Wait is there proof of that now?

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

I'm a couple days late, but yeah, it was pretty clearly edited based on the metadata.

Working with two independent video forensics experts, WIRED examined the 21-gigabyte files released by the DOJ. Using a metadata tool, reporters analyzed both Exchangeable Image File Format (EXIF) and Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) data to identify signs of postprocessing.

The “raw” file shows clear signs of having been processed using an Adobe product, most likely Premiere, based on metadata that specifically references file extensions used by the video editing software. According to experts, Adobe software, including Premiere and Photoshop, leaves traces in exported files, often embedding metadata that logs which assets were used and what actions were taken during editing. In this case, the metadata indicates the file was saved at least four times over a 23-minute span on May 23, 2025, by a Windows user account called “MJCOLE~1.” The metadata does not show whether the footage was modified before each time it was saved.

The embedded data suggest the video is not a continuous, unaltered export from a surveillance system, but a composite assembled from at least two separate MP4 files. The metadata includes references to Premiere project files and two specific source clips—2025-05-22 21-12-48.mp4 and 2025-05-22 16-35-21.mp4. These entries appear under a metadata section labeled “Ingredients,” part of Adobe’s internal schema for tracking source material used in edited exports. The metadata does not make clear where in the video the two clips were spliced together.

Further investigation suggests that almost three minutes of the video could be missing though the authors concede that the missing minutes may have been overlap between the two files that were stitched together.

[–] wildbus8979@sh.itjust.works 66 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well there's and entire minute missing, and the video was released with Adobe Premiere metadata....

[–] IhaveCrabs111@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I read that wasn’t even epsteins cell

[–] wildbus8979@sh.itjust.works 30 points 4 days ago (17 children)

The video shows a totally different cell than the original news pictures yeah.

They took money meant for emergency infrastructure and checks notes gave it to cops.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 14 points 4 days ago

If it's a legitimate threat, it's not a distraction. It's called "flooding the zone" and it's intentional, but it's mean to overwhelm us in general with the sheer amount of bullshit he spews.

But don't make the mistake that this is a distraction. He's opening a path to strip anyone he dislikes of citizenship and exile them to a foreign death camp. This is deadly serious and should not be ignored.

Honestly?

I hope he tries

She wealthy and still a household name. She can pay to fight, it would make it undeniable he's abusing power.

And she literally doesn't even live in this country. Absolutely zero danger at all, and she was already saying she might not come back.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 47 points 4 days ago (2 children)

What we need to do is start a campaign talking about how he's not smart enough or brave enough to try and revoke her citizenship.

Dude is easily manipulated.

The US is one of the only countries that still requires citizens living overseas to file and pay taxes. It’d be great if he further crippled the US war machine this way.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (6 children)

That gets thrown around all the time...

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/foreign-earned-income-exclusion

But the exception to it is pretty rational and covers most people.

It's like how billionaires convince poor people that can't afford to retire that a tax only 2% of people will ever pay on inheritance is a pressing issue and society doesn't deserve their cut.of problematic levels of generational wealth.

Like, do you understand how ripe this is for manipulation by the wealthy to turn public opinion against the wealthiest few who pay these taxes?

C'mon man...

It's 2025, we need to learn to recognize this shit on our own, misinformation is going to keep getting worse.

Quick edit:

For clarity, you do still need to file federal taxes every year, even though you have zero withholdings and still owe $0.

But people get in trouble for not filing, same as people who live in Alaska. There's no debt for missed payments, but there may be fines/consequences anyways

we should deport him after he loses.

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago

We should have deported him after he tried to overthrow the government.

So it's never going to happen

[–] hessenjunge@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He should rot in jail, preferably the new one in Florida. Unfortunately that’s not going to happen though.

This distraction campaign of his sure is distracting everyone from the fact that millions of people are going to lose their health insurance.

But by all means, let’s all just collectively zoom in on this feud he has with a d-list nobody instead.

It’s what he wants.

[–] Kurious84@eviltoast.org 40 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This is where he wants to be. He doesn't have that power yet but there are still people who think this is all an act. Morons. This is who he wants to be. He isn't killing people as we know yet but that's the endgame. To become like Putin.

[–] hydriplex@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Projection, for sure.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 47 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I was explaining this to people when the courts first announced he could revoke birthright citizenship.

They're not going after Anchor Babies. They apply to everyone. Birth certificates don't have multiple types.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago (4 children)

I made my dad go on a rant, when I said if we didn't have birth right citizenship then Trump would be a fucking illegal alien. Because his grandfather was a FUCKING IMMIGRANT! I literally screamed the last part because sick of my dad railing against Mexicans and blaming them for everything. Even though he used to work illegals and even paid to gst some ship in illegally.

Thankfully I finally cut my dad off I'm done. Sucks that he gets to stay wealthy due to what the true rich done to this country. All that money and he still a toxic and unhappy person.

what's stopping him?

serious fucking question

edit: if you're going to reply "the law" or "that's illegal!"

then, LOL

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago

Absolutely nothing is stopping him. Certainly not the laws, the Constitution, or the Supreme Court. Lower courts are still ruling against him but getting overridden by SCOTUS.

The only left is we the people and that will take a huge number of us to work together.

Really? People seriously still can’t recognize a distraction when they see one? He’s manufacturing outrage to keep you from paying attention to all of the things he doesn’t want you to see.

It’s a troll. And I am baffled by how easy it works.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He’s a toddler that can’t stay focused on anything long enough to give him credit for that level of thinking. Even his own advisers and staff have said as much when they can’t give him briefings more than a few minutes long or he gets bored, spends all his time posting online or watching TV. He’s not manufacturing anything, this is who he is. The press OTOH is perfectly happy to report on one stupidity and then abandon it for the rapidly arriving following ones.

Distraction from what, these days. Epstein, Iran, tariffs, Israel. It's all super effective.

What would someone do if their citizenship is revoked? Like if one suddenly finds themself in that situation what can they do other than run to the nearest embassy and beg for asylum? Presuming this is done before one is already in custody.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 27 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Three options:

  1. Go to every embassy or consulate you can and try to get a visa
  2. Live illegally in another country
  3. End up in a concentration camp
[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 14 points 4 days ago

You know, I always thought "concentration camp" seemed too friendly of a name.

They're not concentrating them. They're slowly killing them. They're death camps.

Can we take away Trump's citizenship?

If no country wants to have him, I'm OK with dumping him in international waters on a raft.
