Writing on X, the Republican politician said she was creating legislation that would make "the injection, release, or dispersion of chemicals or substances into the atmosphere for the express purpose of altering weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity" a felony.

"I am introducing a bill that prohibits the injection, release, or dispersion of chemicals or substances into the atmosphere for the express purpose of altering weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity," she wrote. "It will be a felony offense."

She added: "We must end the dangerous and deadly practice of weather modification and geoengineering."

I'll rotfl my mao off when this law will turn out to accidentally punish fossil fuel and chemical companies dispersing chemicals or substances into the atmosphere and altering weather, also known as climate change.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

You just know they won't touch those companies because how else are they gonna get their bribe money?

[–] Xande@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

I bet some megaMAGAmorons will embark on a quest to prove their nonsense right... and in the end find out it was the same companies that polluted the air, water and soil whos CEOs are buddybuddy with their beloved leader...

[–] MoonRaven 5 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

And thus more time and money is wasted...

Wasn't there some doge tip site where Americans could post this?

[–] MrSulu@lemmy.ml 13 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I thought she'd prioritize dealing with sharknado attacks but there we have it.

Immigrantnado!

The new conservative horror film

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 3 points 7 hours ago

Cool

Injection of sulfuric acid into the atmosphere (and maybe other solutions) may, at some point, be a requirement for humans and the entire biodome to survive global warming. It won't fix it, but it may delay it enough for us to apply other solutions.

But fucked up mtg of course wants humanity to die out so here we are

It's amazing to see how many stupid people are out there

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 15 points 11 hours ago

I can see how people in the future could turn this one around on to oil and plastic companies. We should probably not stop this one.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 58 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

If this unintentionally regulates greenhouse gas emissions I’m going to laugh so hard.

[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world 14 points 13 hours ago

Express purpose probably saves them. The express purpose is to vent externalities

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 12 points 14 hours ago

It would be beautiful if this dimwit bumbled her way into making the world a better place....but we're probably in the wrong timeline for that

Is this the work of a syphilitic brain?

[–] TechAnon@lemmy.world 19 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

These aren't serious people.

[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 6 points 10 hours ago

They're decreasing the food, so they gotta increase the circus

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 5 points 12 hours ago

We dont live in a serious nation.

[–] Octavio@lemmy.world 17 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

The only “weather modification machines” are fossil fuel powered energy plants. We should join together with MTG to outlaw them.

[–] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 12 hours ago

I mean, technically we’ve been playing around with cloud seeding and such which is about the only thing I can think of that would even come close to what she is talking about. But it’s by no means a common occurrence.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 146 points 19 hours ago (4 children)

I am introducing a bill that prohibits the injection, release, or dispersion of chemicals or substances into the atmosphere for the express purpose of altering weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity,”

So carbon dioxide? Guess we better shut down the coal power plants. MTG says so!

[–] dirthawker0@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

Felony to operate your air conditioner. Awesome

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 20 points 15 hours ago

All pollution?!? Make all pollution illegal?!?!?

That’s what it is, right?

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io 54 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Alas "express purpose" is in there. Clearly the express purpose for petrol companies is profit. And CO2, other pollutants are just inadvertent things that happened on the way to (destroying the planet for) profit. I mean they only sold the petrol products, they didn't force people that purchased the gasoline to burn it. Maybe we can go after the combustion engine producers?

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 11 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

So one could say they hobby at creating potassium iodide, but its expensive to pay to dispose of, so I dump it out of the back of an aircraft that was hired. There was no intention of actually seeding the clouds and making it rain, right?

[–] No1@aussie.zone 6 points 15 hours ago

injection, release, or dispersion of chemicals or substances into the atmosphere for the express purpose of altering weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity,

I'm sure I've seen MTG breathing on her hands in cold weather, which falls into the above perfectly.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 24 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

All the fucking stupidest people. Every goddamn idiotic conspiracy theory is getting a pipeline straight to mainstream news outlets and a rep in government now. Instead of some stupid Bircher literature or having to stand out on the street and screech nonsense at passerby who could just ignore the crazy people...

I am seriously wondering when the moon landing denialists and the flat earth morons and the HIV-denialists will get their day of representation, too.

We already have the anti-vaxxer dumbfucks, the Qanon loons, the evolution-denying dipshits, what else is missing...? How about David Icke level bullshit about lizard people?

JFC.

Why is mtg still able to talk?

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 2 points 10 hours ago

Oh goodie, more we get to suffer more of Marjorie Karen Green's delusional stupidity. I love living in the Fascist States of America.

[–] DrFistington@lemmy.world 12 points 15 hours ago

Stop paying attention to her. Make sure the next thing you click on related to her, is footage of her murder.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 71 points 20 hours ago (4 children)

So would preventing “geoengineering” also prevent trying to stop climate change?

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmynsfw.com 42 points 20 hours ago

She only knows that word because someone told her today

She's a bloody idiot

[–] tburkhol@lemmy.world 32 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

I honestly can't tell whether her intent is to block any counter-climate change projects or if this is just a dumb chemtrails thing.

I mean, I assume it's chemtrails, given the source, but it could easily be a "I like the smell of forest fires, and you'll reduce hurricane intensity over my dead body." Given the source.

Seriously fuck this idiot and the idiots who voted for her. Just a disgraceful embarrassment. Then again so is work, so I get it, but have some dignity.

[–] d33pblu3g3n3@lemmy.world 17 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Marjorie Taylor Green is such a waste of resources.

Ugly, dumb and vile.

And I bet she stinks.

[–] JPSound@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

She's so fucking ugly. Inside and out.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Depending on how climate change turns out for some regions, they will definitely come back to the topic of weather engineering. No rain for a year or two will do this for you.

Can you guys please try to elect some people that will actually do the job they are voted on to do instead of waste everyone's time and accomplish nothing. Tearing shit down is incredibly easy, building shit up takes decades. You ha e severely fucked yourselves over and destroyed all the work of the past 50-75 years of being a country in the modern world. Y'all are fucked and still talking about the next vote like it even fucking matters anymore. America is fucking gone man, you just don't realize it yet.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

gotta shoot them. there's no other way. they have tried all the peaceful options already multiple times each.

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

You don't shoot them. You gather in large mobs and take them out of their houses and burn them or hang them or decapitate them in public. There has to be "due process" by the law of the land, otherwise it's just nutsos with guns killing people. Mob justice is rarely the answer, but in cases like this it's the only thing that will work. You also can't bank on your compromised justice system to punish these people, they built the system so they can't be.

I will fuckin love if she fucks around and discovers climate change

[–] BeNotAfraid@lemmy.world 16 points 17 hours ago

She's attempting to ban Geoengineering. From Wikipedia:

Geoengineering (also known as climate engineering or climate intervention) is the deliberate large-scale interventions in the Earth’s climate system intended to counteract human-caused climate change.[1] The term commonly encompasses two broad categories: large-scale carbon dioxide removal (CDR) and solar radiation modification (SRM). CDR involves techniques to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and is generally considered a form of climate change mitigation. SRM aims to reduce global warming by reflecting a small portion of sunlight (solar radiation) away from Earth and back into space. Although historically grouped together, these approaches differ substantially in mechanisms, timelines, and risk profiles, and are now typically discussed separately.[2]: 168 [3] Some other large-scale engineering proposals—such as interventions to slow the melting of polar and alpine ice—are also sometimes classified as forms of geoengineering.

Some types of geoengineering present political, social and ethical issues. One common objection is that focusing on these technologies could undermine efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Effective governance and international oversight are widely regarded as essential.

Major scientific organizations have examined the potential, risks, and governance needs of geoengineering, including the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine,[4][5][6] the Royal Society,[7] the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO),[8] and the World Climate Research Programme.[1]

[–] Caffeinated_Sloth@lemmy.world 30 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

This is awesome. Do it. What’s gonna happen when the contrails don’t disappear? Who are they gonna arrest? Gonna have to stock up on popcorn because the theatre of the ignorant is about to get really interesting. Finally a piece of legislation I can get excited about.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 40 points 19 hours ago (5 children)

This is a bill to arrest people trying to prevent climate change.
