are they hiring? i have many expensive ideas with zero guarantees of success

[–] benny@reddthat.com 8 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Who do you think you are, an oligarch?

[–] if_only@sh.itjust.works 9 points 16 hours ago

I am but a simple man looking to profit off the vanity of a complete moron with more money than God.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 10 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Maybe that's the only way US will ever get a third party. I'm not an American but I do think american politics system would be significantly stronger even with a minority 3rd party. Can you imagine how powerful US would be with a diverse parlament that has true competition of ideas not just partisan voting? That's true "checks and balances".

The funniest thing about stuff like this is that there are already a hundred political parties in the US. Every time someone says “we need a third party,” it reminds me of that xkcd comic about standards and protocols.

I'll just point out the risk of what I'll call "Joe Roganing" here. Elon pretends he hates both parties while there's no election coming up. Then when the election arrives he "makes up his mind" and endorses Republicans. This allows him to 1) attract people fed up with both parties just to hand them to Republicans, and 2) have a credible that that forces Republicans to do his bidding.

The American Billionaires Party?

If they manage to steal half the GOPs votes, we have reason to thank him.

Honestly, I am tentatively very excited about this. Not because I support that nazi in any way whatsoever. I am excited because he stands to be a significant spoiler for the GOPs elections.

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 23 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

He will pull a Joe Rogan and endorse Trump last minute.

[–] phx@lemmy.ca 9 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Do they even really like him? I thought pretty much any Republican support for Elon came from his support/association with Trump

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I'm a secret leftist amongst a bunch of low information MAGA voters (the ones that voted for Trump more because they're stupid and easily duped than being giant racists) in a few different circles. All they know is I own guns and answer "oh fuck no" when asked if I'm a liberal, so they assume I'm a non-MAGA conservative*. Hehehe.

Without exception, they adore Elno. They don't realize it but they're prosperity gospel types (because stupid), so they assume he must be a good and intelligent guy, otherwise Jebus wouldn't have made him successful.

*Side note: I have one all hot and bothered about seizing the means of production, just using different terms.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I learned "libertarian municipalist" as a code word for anarchist from Robert Evans. You don't have to lie and all they hear is libertarian.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 5 points 17 hours ago

hah ! love my new title

So, another copy of the Libertarian Party?

But even more barefacedly just "republicans who don't want to pay their taxes"

Even opening up a poll on X to see what his users think about the idea...

Presumably the other headline that read '50% of voters' were in favour of this party, should have read '50% of X users who voted in the poll (a potentially large proportion of which were bots owned and controlled ultimately by Elon Musk) were in favour of this party'

  1. US (and in fact all 'Western') media is as bent as anything in the former Soviet Union.

  2. America certainly is in the hypernormalisation phase. I'm not sure how far behind the UK (and other Western nations media) is because I really don't engage in the media here. But any Murdoch owned media (like Fox in the US) is at the very least poisonous to open and fair democracy, and egalitarian society.

[–] ThePyroPython@lemmy.world 171 points 1 day ago (5 children)

"America Party"

Americans really are the ultimate parody of themselves. Have fun with your civil war.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 104 points 1 day ago

The "America Party", started by a Nazi African. What a wild thing.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 7 points 17 hours ago

This whole thing leaves such a sour taste that he should have called it a lemon party.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 13 points 18 hours ago

Yeah FR this is literally the best thing that could have happened for the USA simply because of spoiler effect.

The America Party run by a South African.

Popcorn is not enough for this country.

[–] b3an@lemmy.world 4 points 15 hours ago

I did nazi that coming.

[–] sprite0@sh.itjust.works 26 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

Just in: Elon Musk can fuck off. Preferably to Mars, permanently.

Fuck him and his political party.

[–] infyrian@kbin.melroy.org 66 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Oh he didn't want to throw an X somewhere in that name like it is in almost everything he touches?

At least give it a cool name like The (John) Galt Party or something so it has a better change of splitting the right. I guess the nazi party was already taken?

[–] rozodru@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

he's just so bad with names. Surprised he didn't call it the X Party. wouldn't that have been more "cool"? surprised he didn't ask Grok to come up with party names, I mean hell I use chatgpt to come up with names for videogame characters and it works well.

This is going to fizzle out when he inevitably gets distracted by something else.

[–] lagoon8622@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 hours ago

gets distracted

Oh you mean the next K-hole? Tonight?

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

He isn't trying to split the right, he actually thinks he can win because he's a fucking narcissist. So they will siphon votes from Democrats by pretending to be pro-Gaza and all of the kids who refuse to read a fucking book will buy it and vote for them.

Perfect timing. Just when everyone hates musk he wants votes.

Yea, that gonna be fun to cringewatch

[–] Zerlyna@lemmy.world 102 points 1 day ago (21 children)

I’m not sure if I want this to fail or succeed.

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 141 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Hopefully it has success at breaking us from our failed two party system, while at the same time the party itself fails (and costs him lot of money in the process).

[–] ExFed@programming.dev 75 points 1 day ago (8 children)

We'll need ranked choice (or some other voting scheme other than First Past The Post). Otherwise it'll just end up the same as it always has.

Best case scenario is it will split the right wing vote. In Canada, we're used to it going the other way with conservatives taking advantage of a split left.

I want him to split the GOP vote. Basically just a Jill Stein that believes his own swill.

[–] ghostlychonk@lemmy.world 23 points 22 hours ago (5 children)

He can fuck right off. I don't believe him and Trump are actually at odds and I think this is an attempt to create an opposition party that's even more under conservative control than the Democrats are.

[–] DicJacobus@lemmy.world 9 points 21 hours ago

The chances that a real Elon party signifigantly stealing votes from the Republicans to the point it causes an actual vote split is basically nil. The voter base is stupid, but not so stupid to hand a brand new party anything out of the gate.

Now, controlled opposition, is a foundation of the farce that is Russian democracy, and both DT and Elon are staunch admirers of Putin's system where its a mob masquerading as a government with total control

What's it called again ? Please let it be an AnCap one, it would make sense for him to do just that

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 29 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm surprised he didn't try to meme it up and call it the Lemon Party.

What kind of shitty click bait is this?

The richest man in the world officially announced on Saturday that he has officially formed a new political party to challenge Republicans and Democrats alike.

He fucking tweeted that it was created, literally nothing official.
