Yeah I don't think I could handle my kid complaining about being dizzy while also insisting on only eating one meal a day either.

I have a suspicion that the reaction to seeing this tweet would be a really accurate way to infer someone's age.

I eat one meal a day and fast the rest of the time, only having water. I'm the healthiest I've been in many years at age 41.

If course I eat my fruit and vegetables, and other foods that are good for me.

[–] Windex007@lemmy.world 39 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

If you're not complaining about being dizzy then I'd have no issues!

And, side note: I'm really happy it's working out for you. Trying to dial in the habits that keep our bodies working/feeling good past 40 is a fucking minefield. When you're 20 you can fall off a house and think nothing of it... When you're 40 you sleep funny and are fucked up for a week.

[–] ZoopZeZoop@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, and I have two young children who treat me like a jungle gym.

[–] bier 1 points 2 weeks ago

This is so true, especially now I have kids and just have to get up at 6:30 or 7 when I'm lucky. Even if I'm alone now I can't sleep anymore after 7 because my body just makes sure I'm wide awake (even though I'm still really tired).

Dad's been arming himself for a while, it appears.

[–] Rin@lemm.ee 48 points 2 weeks ago

Imagine having parents that care

[–] sailormoon@lemmy.world 42 points 2 weeks ago

Dad is right.

You typed 2 words.

He typed 95.

And four of them were "when I cremate you"

....

[–] kaitco@lemmy.world 31 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I sent this to my mother captioned as “Other parents acting as crazy as you” and then received a my own text lecture about health and eating properly.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well, did you learn or did she also threaten to throw sardines at your funeral?

[–] kaitco@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

She gave me the speech about the heartache of ever having to bury her only child…

No mention of sardines, though. 👍

That uses to be my nickname growing up

It's like my mom complaining her headaches are chronic but she refuses to drink a glass of water

[–] Rachelhazideas@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

If your mom has chronic headaches, chances are that she's already tried and it doesn't work.

As a migraine sufferer, I've never heard of more useless advice than 'drink water'.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Could be real. I get cluster headaches. They're called that because they occur in clusters. Mine happen every year around early spring, and usually last less than an hour. It's a damn miserable hour though.

This year they came on once or twice a day for two months. Usually I only suffer for roughly a month. The amount of people I had to explain why I needed to not talk and hold my head in a certain position, who then told me I was dehydrated and should have some water. Well I wanted to kill them. I know my body better than anyone. My piss was nearly clear, I was plenty hydrated.

Your mom probably knows her body and knows that the water will not help.

Fun fact, some people get cluster headaches year round and they can last for over a day. They are truly miserable. It's like all the muscles in your temple and behind your eye tense to max and won't let go. I've had black eyes from them. They literally squeeze the tears out of your eyeball.

I can't imagine getting them worse than I do. They have a fun nickname too- suicide headaches. When they're happening I have a recurring fantasy of drilling a hole in my skull to relieve the pressure. But it's not actually pressure, just kinda feels like it.

[–] toofpic@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

Of course it can be real. But you want to remove all the easily manageable factors, like dehydration. We had this with my kids a few times:

  • My head hurts
  • Do you remember drinking water or other stuff?
  • Will the water help with my headache?
  • Could help, could not, but you can try
It was kinda hard to explain that this is not a game mechanic where you have a clear countermeasure to a negative status, but they more or less understand it now
[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Still not convinced. My ex also had them and I was sympathetic for many years, doing my best to help her through them.

But it was eventually too much. She identified a few things as likely triggers. I realize that’s not 100% but every time she had another episode, she exposed herself to a trigger. When she successfully avoided triggers, she had them much less frequently, even going years between. I eventually lost my sympathy: if you have good evidence of triggers yet don’t avoid them, then you FaFo

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The only trigger I can identify is spring weather in a small city in a place that's mostly temperate rainforest.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I apologize, that I didn’t mean to doubt your experience - sometimes there is something you can do, and if you don’t follow through with it, the rest of us will be much less patient. However I also realize there’s never a perfect way to prevent them and not everyone has identifiable triggers.

Allergies?

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

I had allergies bad as a child but they mostly went away in my mid 20s. Certain animals bother me but usually not plants. No food or medicine allergies.

[–] Fleur_@aussie.zone 15 points 2 weeks ago

I'm not a parent but I imagine it's hard watching your kid destroy their health

[–] not_woody_shaw@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

Sardini Bomberini.

[–] JASN_DE@feddit.org 13 points 2 weeks ago

Eat your sardines, people!

[–] SynopsisTantilize@lemm.ee 8 points 2 weeks ago

Like ...just take a multivitamin Sardini

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Can someone please explain the joke?

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 34 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This is c/rareinsults. Looks like her name is Chandini. Her father called her Sardini, which is certainly a rare insult.

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Why does not eating sardines make someone anemic? Wouldn't that make them anorexic?

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Likely because one of the largest causes of anemia is iron deficiency and ~~all~~ most of the foods that are listed are high in iron

[–] scrion@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (4 children)
[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Oh yeah? If spinach isn't made of at least 50% iron, how do you explain the effect it has on this man, smart guy?

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

How I feel after giving someone a compliment and they say "thanks" and I can tell it really did have an effect on them (I am making a positive difference in the world!).

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Ah thanks for the information. I definitely had that misconception

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Beets, on the other hand, are iron rich (but taste horrible in my opinion)

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There's a Lebanese place near here with pickled beets and olives and other various pickles instead of a loaf of bread with your meal. I love them.

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Pickling makes food better!

I might just like vinegar!

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

IMO, they're much better pickled. Also the greens are edible and have a much more conventional "slightly bitter green vegetable" taste.

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

WHAT

I was sold a bill of goods 🌱

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

Thank you. That's what I was not sure about.
