WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Vice President JD Vance said that he’s joining his wife on a Friday trip to Greenland, suggesting in an online video that global security is at stake.

“We’re going to check out how things are going there,” Vance said in a video shared Tuesday. “Speaking for President Trump, we want to reinvigorate the security of the people of Greenland because we think it’s important to protecting the security of the entire world.”

Could Greenland just turn them away?

[–] match@pawb.social 147 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Detain them indefinitely instead.

"I'm sorry, due to political instability travelers from your country must be held for seven days while we run a background check to be sure you're not attempting to illegally enter our country.

Here's a 3cm thick mat and a 3m x 3m room that's lit 24/7. See you next week. I suggest you take a vote on which corner is the bathroom."

If they did this. I don't even think Trump would care. Probably tell the press "he doesn't know anything about it, you're telling me for the first time".

Then Pete gets drunk and forgets to launch the rescue mission. No one would miss JV Vance anyways.

They should. Just say the runways are unsafe to land on

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 week ago

Nah, let them come... and then don't let them leave.

Deport to El Salvador Prison

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 158 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Greenland should absolutely deny these invaders entry.

[–] LuxSpark@lemmy.cafe 52 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That would be a shame if they got detained.

[–] witten@lemmy.world 41 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Maybe they should have their cell phones searched just like those Europeans trying to enter the U.S... It's not like any Signal threads JD may or may not be on have classified information, right?

[–] paranoia@feddit.dk 12 points 1 week ago (4 children)

The problem is they will be landing at an airport controlled by the US.

[–] Teknikal@eviltoast.org 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They can stay in the base but should be denied leaving imo

I hope Greenlanders chase him away like Vermonters did. Let him know he can't go anywhere without people making it known how much they don't want a little sycophantic dweeb like him around.

[–] MisterOwl@lemmy.world 41 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Please please please Greenland make this happen. Boo and jeer and hurl insults at him everywhere he goes every minute of every day.

If there isn't at least one snowball to the face I'll be disappointed in Greenland.

I'd also be cool with people reviving the tradition of throwing shoes at republican fuckers.

As a convicted felon, Trump probably isn't allowed entry to most modern countries.

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 25 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Bush was and his DUI conviction counts as a felony.

Greenland should deport them immediately after arrival

[–] ShadowRam@fedia.io 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Can't they just deny VISA entry?

I don't even understand why they're allowed in the country.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If they aren't, then it's best to turn them away at the Greenlandic airport for maximum inconvenience.

[–] glitch1985@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Detain them!

Did Couch Guyliner not express some horrible disdain for Europe recently on the leaked Signal app that his administration is famed for? And now he's visiting Europe?

I hope he receives the same treatment that Tesla dealerships are treated to in Canada.

The only thing Greenland is in danger from, is the US.

Let’s be honest. How many people would care if Greenland just threw him in an ice cave? His wife probably wouldn’t even look for him until she ran out of mascara. No one in America cares about JD Vance. People who loathe Trump or Ted Cruz or whomever have to force giving a shit about JD Vance.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There's no evidence Greenland even met with them. Greenland was with me at the restaurant all night. I'm sure my other friends could also corroborate that. Remember that guys? Greenland was cracking jokes all night. Dave almost peed his pants he was laughing so hard.

Its kind of weird how often they're talking about when and where he is going to be almost like they're inviting someone to knock him out of the sky.

why do I have a feeling they are going to provoke/fake some kind of incident that would "justify" an attempt at US military "intervention"

Why can't Greenland officials meet them at the airport, detain while going through their social media , and then put them back on the plane and tell them to not come back? I think that would be fair.

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

On their way back, they get detained by ICE
