https://images.nasa.gov/details/hubble-observes-one-of-a-kind-star-nicknamed-nasty_17754652960_o

Astronomers using NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope have uncovered surprising new clues about a hefty, rapidly aging star whose behavior has never been seen before in our Milky Way galaxy. In fact, the star is so weird that astronomers have nicknamed it “Nasty 1,” a play on its catalog name of NaSt1. The star may represent a brief transitory stage in the evolution of extremely massive stars.

First discovered several decades ago, Nasty 1 was identified as a Wolf-Rayet star, a rapidly evolving star that is much more massive than our sun. The star loses its hydrogen-filled outer layers quickly, exposing its super-hot and extremely bright helium-burning core.

But Nasty 1 doesn’t look like a typical Wolf-Rayet star. The astronomers using Hubble had expected to see twin lobes of gas flowing from opposite sides of the star, perhaps similar to those emanating from the massive star Eta Carinae, which is a Wolf-Rayet candidate.

Instead, Hubble revealed a pancake-shaped disk of gas encircling the star. The vast disk is nearly 2 trillion miles wide, and may have formed from an unseen companion star that snacked on the outer envelope of the newly formed Wolf-Rayet. Based on current estimates, the nebula surrounding the stars is just a few thousand years old, and as close as 3,000 light-years from Earth.

I’d love to be able to configure Tapestry, my feed reader, to open Lemmy posts in Voyager, but not sure where to start.

I was able to configure it to open Mastodon posts in Ivory but Ivory showed up as an option. I don’t know if that was a hard coded option or if maybe the app is registered as a Mastodon client with the OS somehow?

I get "Failed to load media" message whenever I try to upload an image or video in voyager... 🤷

I tried again in the first comment below.

I have been running a personal lemmy server for a long time and using Voyager (web app). The other day I updated as I have done dozens of times before, and it wouldn’t load any posts. I tried logging out and clearing my cache, but when I try to log in to lemmy.masto.community, it just says there was a problem connecting.

The server is obviously up and working or I wouldn’t be able to post this. And logged out, I seem to be able to browse public servers with Voyager. It has just suddenly become incompatible with… something? This is a managed service on Elestio, so it’s maintained automatically.

I figured if I waited a few days it would sort itself out since I can’t be the only one. But I don’t see any posts about this so now I’m wondering if I’m the only one. Any ideas? Thanks!

Edit: Just realised this is a duplicate of https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/28237901

If your default comment sort isn’t “hot”, the when you look at the comments on a post it will be sorted by “hot”, your comment sort will only be applied to a post once you refresh that post.

Reposted something, am getting notifications on the bottom bar for every reply. How can I deactivate that for that post only?

Thanks!

Sometimes I really want to just delete a post but I think thats a bit heavy-handed and I keep hoping theres a way to simply mute it so its not disrupting me when I've moved on from it but dont want to invalidate all the repliers and also posterity

I have top comment order as default. I go into a post, the icon shows it's ordered by top comments. The comments aren't ordered by points though. If I change the order to something else and back to top, oy orders by top.

On GrapheneOS, voyager 2.37.0.

Edit: same on 2.37.1.

I noticed that in a /c view, post text is hidden by default for a media post.

Is there a way to have that text exposed by default?

Example: When viewing !trams_trolleys_streetcars@lemmy.blahaj.zone

I don't see the post text for my latest post to the /c : https://ani.social/post/16029609

edit: Looking at it further, It's emulating the Lemmy web interface: I have to click a little "+" icon next to the post's title to expose the post text there.

But there's no way to expose the post text with one click in Vger's /c or Home/All/Local/Moderator feed views.

My settings for default sort, appearance, favorites, etc. have reset twice this month, which I can't remember happening ever before. Is the problem on my end, or have there been app updates that required it?

I've found the backup/restore button now, so I can hopefully recover it next time.

Is it just me or is the current version of Voyager PWA app really sluggish. Posts appear slowly when scrolling and collapsing and expanding comment threads can be really slow when it’s a big thread.

I have an iPhone 14, using the app as a PWA.

This wasn’t the case a few weeks ago. Anyone else have this experience?

Is there a search parameter to get a list of communities?

UPDATE June 29: Piefed support is rolling out to the official store listings today in v2.37.0 🎉

I'm excited to announce that Voyager now has experimental support for logging in with Piefed! You can try it out today on:

This will roll out to the official app stores and vger.app soon(tm), once I’m confident there are no major regressions. If you prefer not to switch to beta builds, just hang tight.

Please note that Piefed support is EXPERIMENTAL! There are still many things that don't work quite right, which I'm hoping to improve over the coming weeks.

The basics including scrolling home/all/local, viewing posts, blocking, commenting and voting should work well. However there are some known issues:

  • Can't sign up for a Piefed account in-app, only log in with an existing one
  • Subscribed communities list is empty (should be fixed soon!)
  • Inbox tab doesn't load
  • Comment search doesn't work
  • Profile upvoted/downvoted doesn't load
  • No moderation tools
  • Mark as read doesn't persist
  • Creating/editing posts is currently untested
  • ...probably a bunch of other stuff too, please let me know below!

Behind the scenes, this interoperability is made possible thanks to aeharding/threadiverse, a new library I am working on to normalize various threadiverse-software APIs. It's open source so any project use it, but it's under heavy development right now. What's cool about this is in the future, adding support for mbin, or whatever else is possible!

Again, feel free to try it out and let me know if there are any more issues to be documented and fixed.

When blocking a community, crossposts from that community should also be blocked or filtered out.

If I block a community is because I don’t want to see anything from it, but if someone crosspost from there I have the content that I don’t like in my curated feed.

For example, I’m interested in a certain topic and I follow community A which focuses in that topic. There is also community B which covers the same topic but using AI to generate content. I block B, however since A doesn’t have a rule against AI, people crosspost a lot from B to A.

AI is the most frequent content that I see in my my feed due crosspost, but there is also multiple cases that I block a community centered in a topic that I don’t want to see and someone crosspost from said community to memes or similar.

Maybe there are people fine with how it works right now and want to see when someone crosspost drama from said community, but there should be be the option to enable filtering out them.

15

Currently when crossposting the crosspost link and text are not displayed. I can find them if I use the Select text option but obviously that's not the current method to see or hide normal post text.

Perhaps this feature or some other method to view this information already exists but I couldn't find it.

Thanks.

Hi! I just exported my settings from lemm.ee on iOS and tried to import them to my new account on lemmy.zip and got this error. Anyone has this before know how to fix?

17

So if its just a URL without the []() syntax it would be, perhaps green, and links with it could stay blue. Good semantic to avoid spam or malware links.

Anyway, have any of you seen today's XKCD? https://xkcd.com/3104

Hey there, I get a black screen on all tabs on the new iOS 26 Beta. When I switch to a different account by long press I can see the profile page but as soon as I tap on a tab its black again.

Interstellar already supports Piefed, Mlem and Blorp are working on it.

Will Voyager also support PieFed in the future?

Wondering if anyone else is having issues with the latest dev beta? The app “works” but any sort of navigation using the tabs results in a blank screen. Can kinda work around it by going to “add” a new account then backing out immediately.

Seems to happen on direct voyager website access as well.

Edit: Screen rotation seems to work as well.

If I'm Voyager user who's lemm.ee profil is about to shut down, is there anything I should take into consideration? Instances to avoid because they are not supported? Tools or app features that would be helpful? Things like that.

Any advice will be appreciated, thanks.

When I start to type !casualeu the markdown autocomplete provides the following code:

[!casualeurope@piefed.social](https://piefed.social/c/casualeurope)

Example:

!casualeurope@piefed.social

This causes links to Piefed communities to open in the browser instead of in Voyager.

This format without markdown works for Lemmy, Mbin and Piefed communities:

[!casualeurope@piefed.social](/c/casualeurope@piefed.social)

Example: !casualeurope@piefed.social

I usually strip away all the markdown after autocompletion, but it's a little tedious.

With the whole lemm.ee shutting down thing, there's been a lot of interest in migrating communities and user accounts to piefed

Specifically piefed.social

Take the whole !television@lemm.ee to !television@piefed.social migration for example.

While viewing the piefed feed seems to work fine, there's an issue with adding a piefed user to Vger.

I've registered @zabadoh@piefed.social but I can't add that to Vger because the capcha doesn't appear.

I know piefed isn't exactly the same thing as Lemmy, but would you consider supporting adding piefed accounts?

chore: set default instance to lemmy.zip, remove lemm.ee

Thank you for all your work!
