I just had this experience again with one of the obnoxious moe communities. NSFW/porn-adjacent stuff is most of what I have blocked because I don’t like it. I don’t want questionable pseudo-porn in my feed at all, and it’s really hard to avoid (though real porn was easy enough to block).

I had them all blocked, but a new one got rolled up (I assume that dude keeps rolling them up to get around the plethora of blocks those communities have) and I hadn’t encountered it yet. It shared a gross post I’d otherwise never have had the displeasure of seeing.

Perhaps a toggle setting to either block those cross posts or not, so people who are trying to block the content can, while those trying to block the places but not the content can also do that.

There's a few instances that are militantly pro-ai, even going so far to ban people just for downvoting AI.

If you just block the communities on those instances, it's like playing whackamole. Because they won't stop making identical communities.

So you need to block the entire instance, and/or the mods since they're the ones making all the posts/crossposts

You won't miss much, the problematic ones tend to have monthly users in the double digits, they're only there to bait people from rational instances into arguing with them where they're a mod.

Ideally .world would just defederate from those troll instances. But they really really want to federate with everyone.

So just block all those instances yourself.

Along with this, there are double postings because people are crossposting a second after posting and it is clunking up my feed with duplicates.

Yeah, they have different comment threads, but I don’t care. I don’t want to see all these duplicates everywhere.

And then there’s like you say, where I’ve blocked the community and it shows up on my feed anyway because someone is crossposting to a community I haven’t blocked. But if it comes from that community, I don’t want to see it at all.

I’d like a feature to just block all crossposts. I don’t want to see any of them.

I normally only block communities because I don't want to accidentally comment on a community full of people I'm not going to get along with. I'm often fine discussing such things among different people. So I prefer not to have this change, but I can understand your reasoning and I don't disagree that it's a reasonable ask. Maybe as an optional account setting?
