WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Monday he’s placing the Washington, D.C., police department under federal control and deploying the National Guard to make the nation’s capital safer.

Trump has promised new steps to tackle homelessness and crime in Washington, prompting the city's mayor to voice concerns about the potential use of the National Guard to patrol the streets.

Ahead of a news conference, Trump said Monday on social media that the nation's capital would be “LIBERATED today!” He said he would end the “days of ruthlessly killing, or hurting, innocent people.”

Violent crime in Washington D.C. is actually at a 30 year low.

This is literally what kingpin did in that Daredevil show that came out a few months ago.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well then, this really should be ther start where all these 2A folks are going to go all "out of my cold dead hands", right?

[–] shittydwarf@sh.itjust.works 251 points 2 days ago (3 children)

To help find the Epstein files?

[–] slate@sh.itjust.works 83 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well they weren't on the roof

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 24 points 2 days ago

He was apparently cleaning the dildoes off the roof.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Normalize calling them the Trump/Epstein Files.

If you agree with this, please spread the word in any other threads where you see only "Epstein Files"

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think it should be hyphenated... Trump-Epstein Files. That more indicates a connection between the two while Trump/Epstein makes them seem more separated.

Washington DC is sliding further into fascism all because a kid named "Big Balls", who was put in a leadership position of dismantling the federal government, got beat up by a bunch of 15 year olds. this is truly the dumbest timeline.

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 84 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Allegedly by a bunch of 15 year olds. It was probably 2 seven year olds in a trench coat.

further? newsflash, it's already there as is the rest of the country. how can you slide further into something when you're already up to your chin in fascist shit?

This is the EXACT problem with Americans. It's always "it's happening" or "soon" or "we're heading there" when the boat is already underwater.

What more is it going to take for US Citizens to finally accept that they're a fascist nation? what more does the Nazi in charge have to do for Americans to start rioting and resisting?

[–] bwhough@fedia.io 1 points 14 hours ago

Of course we're already deep into the well of fascism. My comment wasn't meant to trivialize that - I thought it was obvious. It was only meant to highlight that things continue to get even worse.

Judging by my own little corner of the country, the normal operating state of conservative white americans is to be paranoid and complain about how the world is conspiring against them. Nothing ever happens of course, but they don't realize that because there is ALWAYS something they could complain about.

Most people won't realize it until masked men put them in an unmarked van.

If there’s concern about criminals in DC, let’s start with the sexual predator living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 56 points 2 days ago (2 children)

We all know he doesn't actually live at the White House. He does all his most important work from the Mar-a-Lago bathroom.

“Lying fraudster lies to grab more power by military control”

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 90 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (7 children)

He can only do this for 30 days, then congress has to pass a law extending it. Wonder if Congress bends the knee? I have no doubts they will, and it'll be another example of their cowardice.

DC has seen record lows in crime. This is all Trump going crazy.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 74 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

I continue to be baffled that people assume that the orangeboi regime “has” to do anything.

They don’t, and nobody who has the barest shred of power to do fucking anything about it is actually doing anything to stop it. They are, and will continue to, categorically ignore laws, court orders, precedent, convention, and so on. They demonstrably do not give a shit.

Stop fucking pretending that this is a normal situation and a normal government. It’s not. The last 4 years were our Weimar Republic era. This 4 (+ ???) year span will be when they do the Enabling Act, citizenship/blood and honor laws, the Treachery Act (honestly wouldn’t even be surprised if they used the same fucking name for it), the Malicious Practices Act, and so on. There is a playbook, and they’re following it.

You're putting an awful lot of faith in the fact that literally anyone will stop him from doing this longer than 30 days. Congress has to pass a law to extend it? Says who? The law? I don't reckon Trump cares much about a silly little thing like the law.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 days ago

More importantly, the law doesn't care about holding Trump accountable in any way, shape, or form. Convicted on 34 felony counts, absolutely no consequences.

[–] Joeffect@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

Probably the whole thing was set up... how convient is it that it qas this one guy? Shits shady as fuck...

Where are the epstien files

[–] Steve@startrek.website 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Laws. Do. Not. Apply. To. Trump.

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Trump and his team realized long ago that they can essentially make any claim, no matter how outrageous or obviously fabricated on the spot, and their base will still lap it up and keep supporting them.

When the objective truth is no longer an obstacle because you've essentially got a reality-distortion field (thanks Fox)...

Remember when a bunch of dumb assholes didn't think fascism could happen in America?

Remember when a bunch of dumb assholes allowed themselves to trip and fall into the "single issue" hole and let fascism take hold in America over a conflict happening on the other side of the planet?

[–] Ferrous@lemmy.ml 16 points 2 days ago (16 children)

"A conflict happening on the other side of the planet" is one my new favorite euphemisms for genocide - one that has left 50k children killed or injured.

What I remember was the Democratic establishment being presented with a simple choice between halting fascism and doing genocide, and they went balls deep in genocide. In reality, halting fascism via the Democrats was never in the cards.

Washington crime is down to it's lowest in 30 years but sure why not. What a idiot.

[–] renamon_silver@lemmy.wtf 11 points 2 days ago

I'm deploying my anus onto trump's face (derogatory)

Best case scenario? This is just more distraction from the epstein files

Worst case? This is him realizing qanon has turned on him and setting up martial law to protect himself for the next ten terms.

Most likely? A mix of making sure nobody can protest him at any "public" event and photo ops to make himself look strong that will fail even harder than the LA mobilization because there just isn't room for the national guard to bivvy around DC. Like... they're gonna be spooning with the unhoused folk in alleyways.

But the most important thing to remember? All those men and women in the National Guard are the real heroes and are going to protect us. And if you say otherwise, you are just a stupid civvy who doesn't understand that legally they have to follow orders. And if you point out the cognitive dissonance there, no salmon for you.

Surely it's cheaper to house the homeless...

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Do you have any idea the emotional toll this takes on the "haves" when they endure the "have nots" getting anything for "free"? Never mind if it's not even actually free or amounts to providing basic human dignity or life saving care. Bet you didn't factor that cost in did ya?

Sure, if the goal was to house the homeless.

[–] MoonRaven 16 points 2 days ago

We are getting so close to the bell riots' cause...

[–] TuffNutzes@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

So the criminal Trump regime's literal police state has arrived.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 16 points 2 days ago (6 children)

Marshal law. Fascism. Gulags. Rigged elections. Disappearing dissenters. It’s all coming.
