Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that his conversation with US President Donald Trump, which took place the day before, has been the best and most productive in the history of communication between the leaders.

Source: Zelenskyy in his evening address on 5 July

Quote: "We discussed the issue of air defence. I am grateful for the willingness to help. Patriot [air defence system] is the key to protection against ballistic missiles."

Details: Zelenskyy said that he and Trump also discussed several other important issues, which will be worked out in detail by the teams of the two countries at further meetings in the near future.

remember, most productive communication with Trump is a low bar, still good to know it's getting better instead of worse

[–] madlian@lemmy.cafe 9 points 1 day ago

Probably meant mostly productive, which is also probably him cracking a joke.

Maybe this is because China just said they needed Russia to win? Trump's got an obsession with opposing China.

Or maybe it's just the way the mush inside Trump's skull happened to flow this particular day.

He probably just wants to promise shit so he can take it away as leverage right before the first delivery, or soon after the first few.

China didnt say for Russia to win. They said Russia must not loose.

A stalemate would be best for China

As long as Russia is fighting China gets cheap oil

Maybe I'm just a skeptic, but I don't believe for a second that was Zelenskyy. Perhaps he was, um, encouraged to say talking points or part of the deal was to flatter Donny Dumbass. Maybe in a use-this-secret-phrase-to-kiss-my-ass-and-i'll-help kind of deal.

Glad Zelenskyy has support again though.

I’m too jaded. There has to be a catch here.

He's saying what he needs to say to protect his country. If he doesn't fellate Trump's ego enough, Trump will destroy Ukraine's ability to defend it's self. He's going to swallow his pride and say what he had to say to save lives

Oh it's quite simple. Trump's opinions are largely based on the last person he talked to. He agrees to all sorts of shit when talking to people because he's easily manipulated and always wants to boast about something he "negotiated".

Zelensky is using that to his advantage, knowing fully that Trump is a Russian lapdog, so he has to get agreements with Trump going quickly and constantly renegotiated because that's how he can undermine Putin's manipulations.

Zelensky, the whole of Ukraine, and the rest of Europe should have at least wisened up with the fact that Trump doesn't honor agreements.

An agreement with Trump is worth the air the sound vibrated though. Banks know this, his former employees know this, anyone in the neighborhood of Trump property knows this.

If anything, the systems that were negotiated are already secured, if I had to guess, already en route and out of US transportation. Zelensky just needs to pump up Trump's ego, just to make sure the ships carrying the equipment still arrive and aren't sunk by the US Navy.

The catch is global thermonuclear war.

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In return, Ukraine needs to announce they are opening an investigation into Hunter Biden.

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Announce that they're opening the investigation but need all their land back because the documentation is scattered due to the war. Oh, we just can't investigate with all this bombing going on, but we really, really want to.

The catch is that Trump changes his mind somewhere between tomorrow and next week
