But the most shocking allegations came from Bakaj, who not only claimed that accounts based in Russia were using newly created DOGE usernames and passwords to access sensitive data, but also directly tied the effort to Elon Musk and his Starlink concerns, which has a relationship with the Kremlin.

“There are two data points that I wanna point out that should give everybody pause,” Bakaj said. “The first thing, what Dan witnessed was that within 15 minutes of DOGE employees creating user accounts, i.e. Usernames and passwords, within 15 minutes of those accounts being created, somebody or something from Russia tried to log in with the right username and right passwords — that is to say — the right credentials. And that happened over 20 times.”

Jiminy Fuck. These fucking traitorous clowns are just flipping all the Destroy America switches and the pithed chuds who put them there can't even spell computer.

Stop all the downloadin!

[–] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 14 points 3 days ago

A friend earlier commented that "maybe they didn't intentionally hand over the credentials and instead the devices belonging to the DOGE doofuses were already thoroughly pwned by Russia" — basically what if it was due to incompetence?

I consider this a possibility, but also, it's not exactly any better — it's just a different kind of awful. Either way, it's unjustifiable

[–] PriorityMotif@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (3 children)

My conspiracy theory is that thaey know that meteor is going to hit the u.s. and they plan to take whatever they can and bounce to Russia.

Giant Meteor for President 2032

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 19 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

I know this is a joke, but the orbit has been narrowed down and it isn't going to hit Earth. Last I saw it had a very small chance to hit the moon though, which would be quite the event. Even that's incredibly unlikely.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Man can nothing go right?

[–] tomenzgg@midwest.social 4 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Something that I've wondered ever since I heard about it: is that cause for concern, still? Or do we expect it to do little damage to our moon or its orbit?

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The moon is hit by objects constantly. Just look at it's surface. It wouldn't significantly change it's orbit or anything like that, but I imagine it'd probably create a plume that's visible from Earth most likely.

So no, there's no need to be concerned, and there never was really. Even if it had hit Earth (which was always very unlikely), it'd likely hit the ocean because that's most of the surface. The media tried to make you scared because it generated clicks, but it was never a serious concern. If you're willing to get into a car and drive every day then you accept much greater risks than this ever was.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The moon has been our ride-or-die bitch for so long and we're just content to let it get pummeled. It's not fair.

Climate Change. That's the meteor. That's behind the dive to annex Canada and Greenland. It's also why Peter Theil has a bunker in New Zealand.

All because there will be areas of climate stability to go with the areas rendered uninhabitable.

Russia is likely to be a climate winner. For a time anyway.

The super rich will just bounce around the globe between islands of stability.

The rest of us will die in the water wars.

Is "security breach" still the right terminology if it was a deliberate act?

[–] hansolo@lemm.ee 111 points 3 days ago

"Treason" is the correct term.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 15 points 3 days ago

Security was deliberately breached.

[–] cronenthal@discuss.tchncs.de 88 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Uhm, there is another bit in this article...

And then the other thing that I wanted to flag for everybody is that right now that, I don’t want to say that this is intentional, it could very well have been a mistake, is that critical infrastructure databases and many government agencies, as we understand it, have been exposed to the open internet, which includes critical databases at the Department of Energy, which includes a lot of our nuclear regulatory agency material.

[–] Dnb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 36 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

From air gapped, no external devices in secured rooms to open to the internet... "oops"

I'm sure no extra Russian logins were added there

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

That's the fun part, over 20 DOGE employee credentials were used from Russian servers. You don't need extras if all your new staff are openly aiding Russia.

[–] sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world 62 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Even the DOGE team has to share their work with their bosses.

Fucking traitors.

[–] witnessbolt@lemm.ee 32 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Musk, like Peter Thiel, Curtis Yarvin, Marc Andreesson - the list of tech billionaires goes on - doesn't want a democracy. They want to replace the elites. They want a technocracy/monarchy, just like Musk's grandfather tried to implement.

Traitors is 100% the word.

"I no longer believe democracy and freedom are compatible" - Peter Thiel

"If Americans want to change their government, they're going to have to get over their dictator phobia." - Curtis Yarvin

[–] madjo 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Do you hear the people sing?

[–] witnessbolt@lemm.ee 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Singing a song of angry men?

[–] madjo 4 points 3 days ago

It is the music of the people who will not be slaves again!

They have the IP addresses logging in, and the data going out, the proof is all there.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 31 points 3 days ago (2 children)

whoopsie daisy I helped the Russian again! what a series of unfortunate accidents.

[–] johncandy1812@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Nobody seems to mind though so I'm not even hiding it

[–] opus86@lemmy.today 4 points 2 days ago

It's a real Lemony Snicket.

[–] Blinsane@reddthat.com 25 points 3 days ago

Well yeah. The U.S is currently a Russian puppet state. This is known by pretty much every intelligence agency around the world by now. They did it to the U.K too but has so far mostly failed in the rest of Europe. Russia has been pumping money into right wing movements and making allies across the western world for decades and put up a lot of politicians with cushy jobs in exchange for services rendered.

[–] madjo 19 points 3 days ago

I can't even fake my shock at this point. And of course nothing will come of this.

[–] this@sh.itjust.works 16 points 3 days ago

upsetting? yes. shocking? unfortunately it is not.

Krasnov strikes again

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 26 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I was expecting truly incredible levels of stupidity and malfeasance, and yet, they’re completely blowing away my expectations every fucking day. Jesus tapdancing christ.

The fact that DOGE caused a security breach is the least shocking news I can think of.

I hope someone gets impeached for this blunder

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Lol not a fucking chance. The people who have the power to do so, didn't want to properly put these fascist fuckers in jail when they had a chance. Now they just cower and play along.

[–] CeeBee_Eh@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What I truly don't understand, is why?

What's the endgame? What's the purpose? What's the benefit?

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] CeeBee_Eh@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

See, that still doesn't make sense. How will helping Russia steal Americans data help other Americans gain more power, control, and wealth?

Those who desire power do not share it

You would think they would be working against each other. Despite the ultimate goals of the two groups being similar in shape and colour. Ultimately they are polar opposites because the intent is for each group to have "power, control, and wealth" for themselves and no one else.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They don't want Americans to gain power, control and wealth. They want a cabal of rich men to gain power, control and wealth. And they feel no loyalty to any country or person, and no morality. All that guides them is their nose for whatever will increase their own power, control and wealth. That might mean loyalty to Trump or Putin, but only because a lack of loyalty would obstruct the process of increasing your power, control and wealth. Loyalty itself is only another form of expediency for them.

I wonder how long it's going to take US citizens to realize that they're subjects of Russia.

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

“Shocking” is not the right word.
