All US presidents receive secret service protection for life, so yeah it'd take some doing to the-doohickey .

Ex presidents actually didn’t receive any SS protection until Obama signed it into law and retroactively gave every living ex president SS security. So without Obama, Bush very well could’ve been shot a while ago. Thanks Obama.

I thought I read that Richard Nixon turned down Secret Service protection after resigning, and he died over 10 years before Obama was president.
