I heard they were rebooting it and I thought to myself "Terrible idea. Just terrible." But I'm now looking forward to the remake of The Shining.

Many, many people tell me they just like seeing big numbers. It's true. It's true. I'm going to make bigger and bigger big numbers. Biggest tariff numbers. Nobody bigger than Trump.

Mr. President, who said they 'just like seeing big numbers'?

Many, many people. The internet. TheSpectreOfGay.

Trump could issue an executive order declaring "DC is a GOP state" and the GOP justices would probably agree with him.

I’m petrified about today’s science news. Genetically modifying crabs to have cheetah genes? This could go sideways fast.

The ciggies were confiscated that morning by "The Boss" - the kid in the trilby. He didn't really understand what photography was until his teacher told him that his parents would be proud of him. His parents would see the photo. His mom would have punished him for smoking by washing his mouth out with soap.

The great rarity of photos makes them precious too. Imagine people ~130 years in the future considering our era. There'd have bajillions and bajillions and bajillions of photos and vids to choose from. Where would they even start?

A journalist thinks they might have been filming an ad.

There's speculation this CBP pony show is actually for a DHS ad and not a sweep, given how few bystanders appear to be around and the presence of internal press people. If so, that requires a permit. I've reached out to the LA film permitting office to see if DHS has one.

Edit

It was over quickly considering what a massive show of force they made. Also - they didn't seem to make any arrests.

I don't know if this photo of a sniper on top of a vehicle is from today...

The link is an announcement at r/chesscom. The screenshot is the error message I get.

Enormous, Young Barney Frank looked disgusting--nipples protruding--in his white shirt in the Serpentine. Very very disrespectful.

US military says 200 Marines being sent to support ICE in Florida

WASHINGTON, July 3 (Reuters) - The U.S. military said on Thursday it will send 200 Marines to Florida to provide administrative and logistical support to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. The Marines are the first wave of U.S. Northern Command's support to the immigration enforcement agency's mission, it said.

"Service members participating in this mission will perform strictly non-law enforcement duties within ICE facilities," USNORTHCOM said in a statement. It said their roles will focus on administrative and logistical tasks, and they are specifically prohibited from direct contact with individuals in ICE custody or involvement in any aspect of the custody chain.

Last month, the Pentagon authorized the mobilization of up to 700 Department of Defense personnel to support ICE in Florida, Louisiana and Texas. President Donald Trump also deployed 700 Marines to Los Angeles in June to protect immigration agents during raids to arrest migrants in the United States illegally.

* I stole the joke from a Bluesky post.

I made fun of Schumer just a couple days ago for being a super ghoul only laser-focused on elections while ignoring the human cost. But - holy mother of fuck - is he a super ghoul.

“There’s going to be some powerful ads,” said Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the chamber’s Democratic leader, before rattling off potential scripts for advertisements that are set to begin airing as early as next week. “‘My daughter had cancer. She was doing fine. Well, all of a sudden, her health care was blown up.’ ‘I worked at this rural hospital for 30 years. I put my heart into it because I wanted to help people. I was fired.’ Stuff like that is going to really matter.”

[...]

Democratic groups are also looking to expand their advertising blitz to prominent podcasters, who would read ad scripts on their shows.

They are so excited.

Senator Brian Schatz, Democrat of Hawaii, said the bill’s passage made his party’s long shot dream of winning back the Senate much more realistic.

“To know this bill is to hate it,” Mr. Schatz said in an interview. “But once it’s enacted, people will start to dig into its individual provisions, and, frankly, they are all terrible and unpopular. So our job is to point out, when kids get less to eat, when rural hospitals shutter, when the price of electricity goes up, that this is because of what your Republican elected official did.”

In 100% unsurprising news item #1 - There isn't a single word about that they want to do about anything if they get back in power.

In 100% unsurprising news item #2 - ICE becoming a powerful Gestapo is also not mentioned at all.
