Wait... THIS is what those cross shaped bricks at the hardware store are for!? THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!

[–] resting_parrot@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 days ago

Lol, yes they're for cheap raised garden beds.

[–] ContriteErudite@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Right? I saw the meme, chuckled because I relate, but then I saw those bricks. Immediately looked up local gardening and hardware supply store to see if they have them in stock. This is EXACTLY what I need for my gardens.

[–] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes, but also, for anyone unsure, you are supposed to fill the raised beds with soil, so they are raised. Usually the kind that comes in bags marked “raised bed soil” or you get it by the truckload and have it dumped in your driveway.

Not sure whats going on with these garden corrals. Do they think the vegetables are going to escape, or do they have a problem with turtles munching the greens?

Could be against goats and other grazers. Although that only looks high enough to repel the youngest of goats. It's an issue in my neighbourhood, I couldn't get my tomatoes to grow very tall before they got munched on. But recently some wild dogs killed the goats, so maybe I'll try again. But then there's the snails....

[–] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Have you seen a baby goat jump? They are good jumpers. I think this would literally only prevent turtles. Copper tape/wire around the sides would help with snails. Some tall rebar with chicken wire wrapped around will keep goats and deer mostly out. They will push in as far as they can to nibble through the wire.

Sorry about your goats :(

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 1 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

ah, snails don't like copper ?

No worries, those weren't my goats. They were my neighbour's. Appreciate the sympathy

[–] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, it sort of zaps them like when you lick a 9volt battery. They turn around and go the other way.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 2 points 13 hours ago

nice ! I'll be using this. Thanks. So far the advice I got from a friend was : placing empty shells arounds the plant repels the live ones. Apparently, it functions as a sort of warning. I've yet to try

[–] pfr@lemmy.sdf.org 53 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Lol, wait till you have kids. They garden will be dead and gone and you'll be so tired that one drink will put you to sleep.

Don't worry, im too gay to have kids by accident, and not willing to intentionally condemn a living thing to this if we're not gonna take climate apocalypse seriously.

Oh my... it really just gets worse, huh.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I've heard a lot of people feel really at peace in the few brief moments just before death, so there's still hope!

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

The sweet release from this flesh prison.

"This is cool and ow my hip!"

[–] ABetterTomorrow@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What did I say about trying to repot the tomatoes after 3 drinks?!

[–] killeronthecorner@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I can retop the pomatoes if I want too!

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Being able to afford a place with a garden would be pretty cool...

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

I had a container garden on my 5th floor apartment porch. I can't say that space was cheap, but as long as you have some sunny outdoor space, you can grow stuff.

Some caterpillars infested my parsley and I decided the world needs butterflies more than I needed herbs, so I fed my garden to them and at the end was buying bunches of organic parsley to feed to them. Raisng caterpillars to butterflies was a real emotional and fulfilling experience, and the two that didn't make it will always be in my heart.

[–] shoo@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You could also look into community gardens. Not as convenient or simple as a home garden, but still pretty nice.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

I'm always impressed by the massive community garden right next to a bunch of mid-low density housing whenever I go to a certain park. it's next to some tight old neighbourhoods with detached homes on small lots and townhomes/short apartments. the thing takes up more space than a small park and is clearly maintained and active.

it's nice to see.

[–] PrettyFlyForAFatGuy@feddit.uk 30 points 3 days ago (2 children)

you guys can afford gardens?

[–] Dicska@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Look at the aristocrat, just casually mentioning their cocktail!

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 11 points 3 days ago

Us normal folks have to work graveyard shifts at the anguish factory on fridays.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

I normally just have the groundskeepers tend my crops, but the idea of doing it yourself is positively quaint!

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago

Life goals.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Also of note: When Friday night includes the time the sun is still out.

[–] sykaster 4 points 2 days ago

Sunset is bedtime my dude

[–] NoPanko@feddit.uk 8 points 3 days ago

I used to think organise freeparties and be part of a soundsystem crew, now my idea of a nice weekend is a bottle of wine and an early night. Times change, do miss the parties sometimes though

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

And I can arguably say you get happier though.

Next thing you know you're sitting in the walk in closet shoveling pie in your mouth before your wife wakes up and notices you baked pie

I was doing this at age ten.

I kind if thought it was lemonade until i took a sip.

[–] fidgeting9658@lemmings.world 6 points 3 days ago

I honestly wish I corps updoot this more

[–] Ghyste@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

And posting literally anything you find to a meme community, regardless of appropriateness.

Weak cocktail, sad garden. Adult better.

[–] DrBob@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 days ago

Or just not funny. I should go back to pedantry.
