The amount of cope happening in that thread to convince themselves that cloud seeding caused the flood is off the charts...

@Grok could cloud seeding have caused the floods?

No, cloud seeding contributes 10-15% extra rain maximum

But @Grok couldn't that have been enough to push it over the threshold

No, this was 40 inches of rain brought by a massive tropical storm

But @Grok if it didn't do anything why did they stop cloud seeding before the storm if it doesn't contribute significantly

(At this point Grok gives up and a human replies) You don't need more water when you already have lots of water

Mfs will believe localised weather meddling can cause a flood but can't believe trillions of tons of CO2 can exacerbate natural disasters...

I can't believe that Grok is fighting the good fight in this case but by the looks of it they will only agree with it if it matches their existing belief system...

They're so close to getting it, but so far.

Apparently installing warning systems was too woke or something.

They didn't want the disruption of the sirens ruining the serenity of the land, true story.

Okay, hear me out guys. So these machines are really ingenious. Basically they use science to make the floodings worse. They heat up the atmosphere because warm air can carry more water and then the rains can become much much harder.

But wait, heating up the atmosphere? I can't even heat my condo properly! So here is the trick. They use something called green house gases. Basically these gases, and that is really evil, they let sunlight in, but they don't let the heat out. But you can't really control where the gas stays, because its gas. So these fuckers they heat up the entire planet and take us all as collateral damages to whoever they want to mess with.

But even worse. They peddled the lie to us, that the green house gases would be good for us because when we make them, they give us some heat or electricity, even though taking sunlight and wind for that is far cheaper and safer. So instead of letting us get almost free energy from the wind they convinced us to pay for us emitting those gases that they use to kill us!

I wonder how useful this kind of approach would be.

I'm reminded of a podcast recently where someone described that some of their colleagues in their day job (a very union heavy job) got pissed off at some cops at a petrol station, basically saying "ay, why are you protecting the Tesla dealerships, you're union too — you're meant to be on our side". The podcast guy said that although he really wanted to say to his colleagues something like "just because they're union doesn't mean they're on our side. Cops only exist to protect the interests of capital", he felt it was more productive to stoke the existing anger of his working class colleagues by leaning into their concerns

They believe whatever sounds more exciting to them. It’s a fantasy world all the way down. Climate change doesn’t sound interesting, so they instead say that it’s part of a weather manipulation scheme spearheaded by the Democrats.

[–] Sightline@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago (2 children)

IMO it has nothing to do with being interesting, it's about not admitting they've been wrong this entire time.

[–] AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net 1 points 21 hours ago

To be fair, it is difficult to rebuild one's understanding of the world after finding out that your previous understanding was built on fundamentally wrong ideas. Not that I'm excusing people who respond to cognitive dissonance by digging deeper into willful ignorance — after all, the reason why I know it's hard is because I've done that work myself (a couple of times). I do have some sympathy though.

[–] orca@orcas.enjoying.yachts 14 points 1 day ago

Why not both? If they keep pursuing some set of tangents, they never have to admit anything to anyone. They’ll just keep moving the goalposts.

[–] mriswith@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

More accurately, they don't think they can be wrong about anything. So when they're shown to be wrong or don't understand something, they make up a fantasy where they're correct.

Reality is complex and confusing and requires you to actually learn stuff, which is hard. Blame everything on an evil conspiracy, preferably perpetrated by the minority you hate the most, and the world is suddenly manageable and understandable. The solution is easy, get rid of said minority and everything will be fine again.

If they acknowledge climate sciences, they have to acknowledge other sciences as well. It's a slippery slope, so it's probably the gay's fault.

Reality ain't real, as far as these numbskulls are concerned. Normally I wouldn't care because I know reality always wins in the end, but now their near complete subversion of our government means they're inflicting the damage resulting from their stupidity not just on themselves, but upon everybody.

[–] BierSoggyBeard@feddit.online 8 points 1 day ago

Literally the definition of "flood"

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, because we call it "climate change". What does that even mean? Sounds long compromise to me

We'd be better off calling it "climate destabilization"

[–] Lumun@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

Lots of people around me use the term 'climate chaos' regularly. Probably for similar reasons

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They don't believe in real science, and instead believe total bullshit.

[–] spicytuna62@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

The way they let their god get away with everything is why they let their politicians get away with everything, and why they will continue to vote them in, despite those politicians' track records of enriching themselves and leaving their constituents out to dry.

[–] QuantumTickle@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 day ago

Dontcha know? It's the Republicans playing with the new weather control machine that Biden installed when he threw hurricanes at Florida. He left them the keys so they're figuring it out now.
