UPDATE: I just realized that SV is on sale right now. And since the post got more attention than I thought it would get (the one 2 years ago got 50 total upvotes), I decided to up the count of SV to give away to 3 πŸ™‚

But, there's one catch. I have just 1 key so I will have to send a gift through Steam for the remaining two winners (which includes a 3 day wait after we become friends. It's a steam policy to prevent fraud)

I also decided to give one out of the three copies to a comment I personally pick.

So here's what's to get:

  • 1 SV Steam key (will be sent to the first randomly picked winner)

  • 1 SV copy as a Steam gift (will be given to the second randomly picked winner)

  • 1 SV copy as a Steam gift (will be given to the poster of a comment I personally pick)

=====================

Hello Friends,

every year I give away a key for Stardew Valley. This is the 6th time I'm doing this. Why? Because it's an awesome game! Two years ago i did the giveaway on the Stardew Valley community here on lemmy.

To enter, just drop a top-level comment (not a comment on someone else's comment) under this post with a reason why you didn't play Stardew Valley yet. It can be a made up reason.

Your lemmy account must be older than 3 days to qualify.

From all comments that qualify, ~~one~~ two will be chosen randomly and one will be picked by me on Tuesday the 8th of July at 20:00 (8pm) CET.

Good luck πŸ‘

I’ve never played it. I guess it got popular before ingot back into gaming, and i had some backlog from humble bundle games when they concentrated on Linux games

I have played Stardew Valley before but it was a pirated copy. I have it wish listed on steam but I only purchased two games on steam and I find the payment process to be a bit tedious. I may look into buying it someday but if I win this giveaway, then I don’t have to buy it. πŸ™‚

I wasn't able to play it because my PC wasn't powerful enough, but now I finally upgraded to something from this decade so now I'm good.

[–] MegaUltraChicken@lemmy.world 13 points 18 hours ago

"Hey anyone wanna try this extra crack that I have?"

[–] tikcreyiz@lemmy.ml 5 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I really want to play it but steam sells the games in my country in USD, not my countrys currency and this makes it expensive and painful to buy. Not only stardew valley, almost any games

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 2 points 9 hours ago

Vouching for this person

[–] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 9 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

Don't pick me. This is just inspiration to do like my.... 5th-ish playthrough. Fantastic game and a real treat for any new farmers!

But, the real question is.... when ya gonna haunt them chocolates ape?!?!

[–] misterwu@lemmy.world 4 points 15 hours ago

Great question. I like to think the longer he spends on making the game the better it will be once its released

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 37 points 1 day ago

Not participating, since I already own the game on steam. Just wanted to tell you that it's very nice of you. Have a wonderful day !

[–] Uliaoth@sh.itjust.works 1 points 12 hours ago

Believe or not, I don't own SV on Steam πŸ˜…

[–] Thebigguy@lemmy.ml 1 points 13 hours ago

Cool I’ve never played it.

[–] yoriaiko@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 13 hours ago

This is a top tier comment, don't believe upvotes. Glad You found a game You like so much to make giveaways blobfox, blobfox3c

[–] RonnieB@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

I've always wanted to try it but wasn't sure if I'd be into that style of game.

[–] Cabslock@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I didn't play Stardew valley because I'm scared I'll get addicted and it will consume all my time, and eventually me as a whole.

[–] ferric_carcinization@lemmy.ml 5 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

In that case, don't look up Dwarf Fortress. I've also heard good things about Factorio, but I haven't tried it yet.

[–] Moonguide@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 hour ago

Or Rimworld. Tried it once while working at a mind numbingly boring internship after a month of putting it off.

I have 6k hours now.

[–] Linktank@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago

Give it to this guy.

[–] Melobol@lemmy.ml 2 points 21 hours ago

Do not try Oxygen Not Included. :)

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 1 points 15 hours ago

I don't know it just doesn't look like my thing. If I win I'll probably do a giveaway

[–] ferric_carcinization@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I haven't gotten a chance yet, as rustc is using 100% CPU & RAM.

[–] ferric_carcinization@lemmy.ml 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

And C++ compile times made me learn C. You must be jealous that my memory errors & race conditions compile faster than yours.

[–] AkatsukiLevi@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Bold of you to assume my code compiles at all

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 2 points 18 hours ago

believe it or not i never played it before

[–] jol@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

My SO didn't play games until his late 30s because be started working as a teen. I introduced him to BOTW and then Minecraft and Portal. Do you think SV would be a good next game?

[–] misterwu@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

If he enjoyed BOTW and Minecraft I think he would enjoy SV too :)

[–] Melobol@lemmy.ml 1 points 21 hours ago

SV is great, My time on Portia/Sandrock games also, but do not forget about Terraria :)

[–] firepenny@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

Heard great things, never played it before, And sounds relaxing as all heck.

[–] hamsesh@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I dunno why I haven’t played it yet! I keep meaning to but never found an excuse to get it. Thanks for doing this giveaway ❀️

[–] xploit@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

Bought it on Android with rewards funds to share it with wife, so she would stop using the goddamn Duolingo and the stupid game it pushes as an advert. But hey, wouldn't mind trying it on PC in multiplayer with her I guess

[–] themadcodger@kbin.earth 4 points 1 day ago

It's been on my list, and I like cozy games… I just never got around to it. And I'm cheap, so unless I noticed it on super sale, I'd put it off until laterℒ️

[–] snoodwaddle@retrolemmy.com 1 points 19 hours ago

I get Stardew Valley confused with Monument Valley

[–] Kyle@lemmy.ca 2 points 22 hours ago

I guess the pandemic wasn't long enough to get all the way through my backlog. I've been slowly making my way through even now. I've been told it's a travesty that I haven't played yet.

I didn't play Stardew Valley because YOU made me sign a blood oath that I wouldn't.

[–] NotProLemmy@lemmy.ml 1 points 20 hours ago

Eh, why not? It's 2D minecraft AFAIK. Also, the title text recommends it.

[–] c24w@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I'm afraid of commitment.

[–] StarvingMartist@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have it but I would love a key for my fiancΓ©e to play with me, we can finally be warring couples with Abigail and Sebastian

[–] Taser@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 23 hours ago

Give it to this guy. It's a great reason.

...

But if you don't, I wouldn't mind giving it a try for a few (read: 200) hours πŸ˜›

[–] Jerkface@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Always looked like dollar-store harvest moon to me. I'd give it a go now that I've got some free time.

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 5 points 21 hours ago

Harvest Moon is Temu Stardew Valley. I know Harvest Moon came first. Stardew Valley does literally everything better than Harvest Moon

[–] dom@lemmy.ca 4 points 22 hours ago

Better than harvest moon imo

[–] AkatsukiLevi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Last game I bought was 5 bucks, and I'm still skeptical whenever it was a good investment cuz money is hard It was Oneshot, and I loved it

Not sure if I'd even like Stardew Valley

[–] Melobol@lemmy.ml 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

There are mods that can make the experience way better. For me the "save anytime" is one of the most important game play improvement.

[–] AkatsukiLevi@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

I'm yet to get the game tbh Might actually get it once I get bored of VotV again

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Not sure why I haven't played it, does anyone know if it has co-op across platforms? Like if I install it on a linux distro will I be able to join a spouse who is playing on her Xbox or Windows?

My spouse says I never played because the aliens invaded and subsequently abducted me.

[–] YouShouldSeeMyAlt@lemmy.zip 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

There is cross-platform play between PC (including Linux and Mac) and mobile devices (iOS and Android).Β For other platforms like Nintendo Switch and Xbox, crossplay is not available, meaning you can only play with others on the same console

You should be able to play co-op across PCs regardless of OS but console versions are not cross compatible.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Thanks for this info, I installed Medieval Dynasty the other day trying to play co-op with her. Unfortunately couldn't join, I assume because I didn't have a legitimate version. Hers was paid for but I had just torrented mine in attempt to play locally. Was hoping I didn't have to pay for a game twice to play together .

[–] Saurok@lemmy.ml 2 points 9 hours ago

I've played it on Linux Mint while some friends were on Windows, didn't have any issues :)
