"He's not a citizen, so isn't entitled to due process" -- My brother in law

[–] magic_lobster_party@fedia.io 100 points 2 days ago

In which case, this is how anyone can be deported without due process:

  1. Don’t acknowledge their citizenship
  2. Send them to offshore prison
  3. Oops, mistakes happen. Too late to rectify. It’s their fault for not looking like a citizen anyway.

"You're not a citizen, so you aren't entitled to due process"

"Yes I am"

"Huh, how are you going to correct me without due process? Have fun in forever prison! Goodbye!"

[–] nibble4bits@lemmy.dbzer0.com 36 points 2 days ago (2 children)

5th Amendment doesn't say "No citizen" it says "No person" is entitled to due process.

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 42 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No person is entitled to due process. Got it. /s

wait a second…

[–] ZagamTheVile@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago

I'm going to assume yours is a typo, but here's the text-

"nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;".

[–] kibiz0r@midwest.social 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So Biden could’ve just said “Trump is an illegal immigrant” and sent him to a death camp?

We missed our fuckin shot.

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, Joe Biden had a lot of time to do whatever he wanted when the supreme court said the president can't break the law. Instead he decided to just do nothing.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As if that packed court would have allowed it.

[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 6 points 2 days ago

Just remove members of the Supreme Court before they make their ruling. Not that hard.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well that's just patently untrue.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Why don't you believe that their BIL said that?

Because he's too busy due processing CDs

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago

When was the last time you heard a conservative speak out in defense of due process?

I mean, for someone other than themselves or someone they like.

[–] Gork@lemm.ee 33 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Their evidence: a photoshopped image with Calibri typeface on his knuckles. It's like they weren't even trying.

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 37 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They claim that the various tattoos he had, like that skull and shit, are all various symbols that denote MS13.

Never mind that one of the MOST KNOWN THINGS about MS-13 is that they're famous for tattooing EXACTLY THAT across their entire bodies, flamboyantly.

[–] leaky_shower_thought 5 points 2 days ago (3 children)

i think i missed which sources they got these symbol meanings from.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, never explained.

Someone offered up the alternative: Weed Dead (the face has Xs for eyes) 4 points on a cross 0 Because if a skull can mean '3' it can mean 0 too?

WD40

But either way, if this guy doesn't get a hearing, then how can any of us be assured we could also get a hearing? Maybe he gets deported, maybe he's problematic, but we have to be giving people hearings.

[–] leaky_shower_thought 1 points 2 days ago

you make a good point. if others can make alternate explanations, what makes theirs, specially without proper sourcing, more legit?

and yes, this guy needs a hearing -- and usual "benefit of the doubt", as there's no proper conviction as of today.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

No, they've already showed their asses.

[–] LeadLemming@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

They sits on their sources.

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago (4 children)

The photo is stupid as hell, but saying they're claiming the obviously added text 'M S 1 3' is what was actually tattooed on his hand is intentionally disingenuous.

It's obviously an annotation to show what they think the symbols that are tattooed on those fingers mean.

Argue about the symbols and their meaning all you want; but please stop bringing up the added typeface like it has any sort of useful meaning in these conversations. It's literally just subtitles.

[–] xor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

did you see the video where trump added a fake hurricane path prediction with a sharpie marker?

trump set the precedent of providing obviously fake things as evidence, and now people are expecting that.

but also, pot leaf, smiley, cross, skull doesn’t mean MS13 and that’s just insane….
even if it meant that, that would only prove that he fucked around with some affiliate gang when he was a kid, not that he’s a super terrorist.

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The whole thing absolutely ridiculous; regardless of their meaning, it's an incredibly flimsy reason to link him to gang activities and suspend due process.

I'm just annoyed at all the people and various news articles failing to talk about that and instead scream things like "Internet Sleuths determine image was photoshopped!!!" and go on about how the font means its fake, because somebody clearly opened it in MS Paint and added some shitty annotations before having Trump pose with the printout

[–] xor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

it pisses me off too… the first thing i heard of it was the “internet sleuths say it was photoshopped”… so i looked at it, at first i was shocked… they really just put letters on the picture? didn’t match the color or shape of the hand?!?!
then i realized it was just annotated and the real story is the only flimsy evidence they have is some shitty non-ms13 tattoos….

back in the day i say some table of gang associated tattoos and it said the pot leaf is a ms13 symbol, and i thought that was just soooo stupid.
but now they’re acting like it’s proof.

but i wouldn’t call it disingenuous to think the annotation was their fake evidence since they’ve faked evidence before while barely trying….
even this could’ve been an attempt at fake evidence and then they claimed it was annotated later… they’re really that dumb….

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Why argue about the symbols? The more important point is violating human rights by a lack of due process. He is innocent until proven guilty and there’s no legal value in posting a photo online

[–] Gork@lemm.ee 5 points 2 days ago

The additions to the image were made without context. If they meant subtitles as an interpretation of what they meant, they should say so. Otherwise it is unclear.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

It's not disingenuous to claim what Trump told us himself.

[–] Cheradenine@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 days ago (2 children)
[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

At this point, I'm beginning to doubt that Venezuelan gangs even exist.

[–] waterSticksToMyBalls@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Do you like trains? Believe it or not dangerous gang member.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

RFKs vendetta against people with ASD suddenly makes sense.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sadly I can probably magat-splain this: the deep state got the orange blob convicted, and he's only been in office a few months, which isn't enough time to oust all the "rats" from office yet.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So trump is weaker than the deep state?

[–] RedditRefugee69@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 2 days ago

The enemy is simultaneously strong and weak.

[–] VeryInterestingTable@lemm.ee 4 points 2 days ago

Rule of law is stupid, much better to trust the judgment of the supreme leader ruler of all. /s
