"He's not a citizen, so isn't entitled to due process" -- My brother in law

[–] magic_lobster_party@fedia.io 100 points 2 days ago

In which case, this is how anyone can be deported without due process:

  1. Don’t acknowledge their citizenship
  2. Send them to offshore prison
  3. Oops, mistakes happen. Too late to rectify. It’s their fault for not looking like a citizen anyway.

"You're not a citizen, so you aren't entitled to due process"

"Yes I am"

"Huh, how are you going to correct me without due process? Have fun in forever prison! Goodbye!"

5th Amendment doesn't say "No citizen" it says "No person" is entitled to due process.

I'm going to assume yours is a typo, but here's the text-

"nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;".

So Biden could’ve just said “Trump is an illegal immigrant” and sent him to a death camp?

We missed our fuckin shot.

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, Joe Biden had a lot of time to do whatever he wanted when the supreme court said the president can't break the law. Instead he decided to just do nothing.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As if that packed court would have allowed it.

[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 6 points 2 days ago

Just remove members of the Supreme Court before they make their ruling. Not that hard.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well that's just patently untrue.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Why don't you believe that their BIL said that?

Because he's too busy due processing CDs
