The CPC's shocking inability to read the room continues. Everyone is trying to distance themselves from the US, and they come up with this?

Incredible. His plan is to make us more economically dependent on our current greatest enemy, to make our military even more dependent on them.

I don't know if this is pure unawareness, or deliberately traitorous. But considering what Daniel Smith's been doing, the latter won't be surprising.

He wants to expand US trade by joining as the 51st state.

Fuck you PP.

[–] cygnus@lemmy.ca 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Of course he does, but why would he say it out loud during the election? It's an incomprehensibly stupid move.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 day ago

Because he is incomprehensibly stupid.

Conservative leader says his government would push for an urgent renegotiation of CUSMA

Because Donald Trump respected CUSMA so much the first time, right?

Sure, Pierre - we should expand trade with a nascent fascist state that's waging economic war on us, threatening our sovereignty, and has proven they won't honour signed agreements. Good luck with that. What a fucking moron.

[–] 60d@lemmy.ca 9 points 20 hours ago

I was gonna say that it's very suspicious for him to want to "renegotiate" right away. More like he's looking to completely sell us out. Fuck smöl ~pp~.

For years, the Americans have demanded we do more in defence. - Poilievre

They've been saying that but really they mean give handouts to America's military industrial complex, as they have just told Europe.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 10 points 21 hours ago

This right here. This is why cooperating with this demand is pointless. We should probably increase domestic investment in defense to create a significant deterrent against a potential American fascist military action. On that basis, not on the basis of spending requests by Trump.

[–] mPony@kbin.earth 20 points 1 day ago

yeah it's "Nice country you got here... shame if some annexin' happened to it." Very Mobster, but without any of the panache associated with it.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 11 points 20 hours ago

The fact he says he's not doing this for president Trump feels on the nose, as if he is actually doing this for Trump.

What logical plan relies on trade with the potential invader to fund our military? A more logical plan would be to source trade agreements with other countries looking to get away from the US market.

Fucking treasonweasel conservatives.

[–] TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.world 8 points 23 hours ago

Treasonweasel...

I'm stealing that.

[–] shittydwarf@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 1 day ago

What a fucking moron, he's not on the side of Canada

Is he trying to be the only person to ever go from guaranteed super majority to guaranteed loss of party status? No one can be this tone deaf on accident.

Either way I am here for it. Watching the Cons explode would only be better if the NDP and Greens received more votes for it.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 11 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Watching the Cons explode would only be better if the NDP and Greens received more votes for it.

Be the change you want to see in the world. In ridings where conservatives have no chance getting people to vote NDP or Greens is a very valid strategy.

Every dollar of revenue from a better trade deal would go toward expanding Canada’s military and increasing its presence in the Arctic, allowing the country to meet its North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) obligation of spending two per cent of gross domestic product on defence

First, every thieving liar that tells you a need to defend our arctic is a thieving US agent trying to steal your tax money to funnel it for US overpriced weapons systems. Military cooperation, including NATO, with US must end. NATO without US, must have EU woo Canada to remain in it.

Every dollar of revenue from a better trade deal

PP is categorically incapable of increasing Canadian GDP through a better trade deal with US. Only taking bribes and licking the diaper to sell further Canadian diminishment and subjugation as a win for Conservative values accross NA. He was doing better by promising oligarch tax cuts, than promising a deal with an untrustworthy enemy to funnel into corrupt boondoggles.

Thinking you can negotiate with Trump, who let's his emotions control him is a horrible idea.
