Canada: Has a supply management system for dairy, is careful not to overproduce, exports next to nothing.

USA: Subsidises dairy overproduction, can't sell close to what it makes, and desperately wants to dump its product on foreign markets.

Who is this supposed to hurt?

I know trump thinks dairy is milk and milk products. It would be a shame if the poor bueruocrat wrote the regs to be the dairy section of most grocery stores ( a CIA simple sabotage manual like idea) putting a self burn on his egg problem :D

Also tit for tat on this one Canadian milk has its problems in price and cartels but it is for the most part safe and reliable.

Dear USA,

Your grandpa is loose in the garden again. He's clearly confused. He just took his pants off, is rubbing dog poo on his head, and mumbling something about tariffs.

Please come get him as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Canada.

β€œThe market is having trouble digesting the multidimensional chess that Trump and his team are playing,” said Michael Block, market strategist at Third Seven Capital. β€œThis multidimensional chess game is not going well for the grand master. There may be a method to the madness. He might be trying to confuse world leaders. But the market is saying stop confusing us. we don’t like this.”

Trump a grand master? This is not a game of multidimensional chess with some grand master this is a cat and a laser pointer.

There may be a method to the madness.

Or is may simply be madness.

I know where my bet goes.

No kidding. Its so apparent that trump thought the threats of a tarrif would make the world kneel, once we started pushing back he panicked. Now he's trying one thing after another to make it work and it keeps blowing up in his face. He cant admit fault or back down. He's getting desperate.

They know. It’s just a way to say that Trump is dumb behind the curtains of a compliment. The guy is fluent in corporate speak

The benefit of doubt is going too far for the president felon

Did he just finally figure out that tariffs can go over 100%? Lol, the dairy exportations are small anyway, but that will certainly ruin a few american businesses. What's next will he threaten 500% tariffs on Canadian bananas?

He'll reverse it tomorrow the dude is a feckless loser

Trump really wants the American people to suffer.

A trade war ahead of hurricane and forest fire season; this summer is going to be rough.

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago

The extra on lumber is what hurts, though US does need more than they have available. Less production might make forest fires worse. Dairy doesn't matter though.

AI Summary:

President Trump has threatened new tariffs on Canadian lumber and dairy products, claiming Canada has been unfairly taxing U.S. exports. This comes just a day after he announced a one-month pause on tariffs under the USMCA agreement. Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng refuted Trump's claims, stating the proposed tariffs are unjustified. The uncertainty surrounding these tariffs has caused market fluctuations, with stocks initially falling but later rising due to positive economic outlooks from the Federal Reserve. The ongoing trade dispute has raised concerns about the impact of tariffs on the U.S. economy, which is already facing challenges such as layoffs and inflation. The dairy industry has been particularly affected by Canada's high tariffs, which have been criticized by U.S. farmers. Additionally, lumber tariffs could exacerbate housing affordability issues, as the U.S. relies on Canadian imports for a significant portion of its lumber needs. Experts warn that tariffs may lead to increased costs for consumers.

Krasnov can't even give a cogent reason for the tariffs in the first place, and can't even stick to one ~~story~~ lie. It's like listening to a five-year-old lying about whether they brushed their teeth before bed.

Brutal tariffs from him.
