Is it worse than the Mario movie?
I took my kid to it last night on a whim. Theater was absolutely packed with 8-16 year olds and through most of the flick they burst out in wild applause and cheering at every minor reference. By any measure it's a success for everyone involved.
Jack Black honestly saves it by being so damn over the top every line, otherwise it's a solid 5/10 movie for kids to enjoy. If you leave red faced and screaming you're just being difficult. Skibidi rizz Ohio.

Lol I just genuinely want to know if it's worse than the new Mario movie because that's one of the most dogshit movies I've ever seen. That goomba toy looks sick tho
It's bad.
There's lots of memeable moments, so I can see it being someone's so-bad-it's-good drunken binge watch movie, but I'm dead inside so I hated every second of it.
I found it a lot easier to watch because they really make no attempt at pathos or the kind of "character arcs" that are always in these kids cash in movies. They give the briefest possible introduction to the characters who are basically chosen at random. I enjoyed watching jack black deliver with conviction lines of dialogue that never bothered trying to make sense in the first place.
They really just distilled it down to "you like wacky characters and you like watching them interact so that is what the movie consists of" with a barely considered Minecraft layer of paint dumped on it. If they're supposed to learn something, they literally spend the least amount of time possible having that actually happen. Danielle Brooks' character is literally just "uh I dunno her landlord who drives her somewhere?" and she's not really less developed than any of the other characters lol
The minecraft movie was peak everyone saying otherwise is just dead inside
Idk abt the full movie but from the beta version i peeked at with the campus tech support crew it deserves a 3 hour $500 mil directors cut with practical effects, Jim Henson Creature Shop-style animatronics, and blank checks for cocaine
