Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

We Canadians will remember the lack of votes to:

  1. End this nonsense
  2. Stop the executive branch from making up crises to violate any agreement they want. Evidence be damned.
  3. Accept this declaration of economic war on your closest ally.

If this does not pass the US. can never again be trusted with any agreement or deal, so none should be bothered to make them.

the US. can never again be trusted with any agreement or deal

This already holds true now. The trade agreement between the US and Canada is the one that he signed. He went back on it anyway. And then after you guys appeased him by dedicating $1.3 billion to a nonexistent fentanyl issue, he did it again.

I'm going to assume you're not Canadian due to the "you guys" part and let you know that the $1.3 billion was already agreed to with Biden and was pre-allocated specifically for border control purposes at the end of 2024.

[–] Nightwingdragon@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago

Sad to say, I'm an American.

And yes, I did know that. But it's my understanding that this was agreed to in an attempt to pre-emptively appease an incoming Trump administration, but I could be wrong on that part. But whether or not that's the case, Trump still originally agreed to not put the tariffs in place because of this, until he changed his mind.

Wait, what do Canadians say instead?

And then after you guys appeased him

And then after we appeased him

[–] BlindFrog@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

"We Canadians"

(source: just my best guess rn, I'm not Canadian)

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

I don't entirely mind that initial effort to just show how utterly fruitless playing by their rules are, and that this has nothing to do with fentanyl at all.

[–] EmpireInDecay@lemmy.ml 26 points 4 days ago (2 children)

The US could never be trusted not to violate their own treaties

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 28 points 4 days ago

every single native american reservation is a testament to that we don't honor our agreements

[–] Zentron@lemm.ee 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Literally all of the US allies 10 nanoseconds after it stopped being convenient for US to support them

"Are we in danger?"

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Big difference between not "supporting" them and threatening to annex us.

[–] Zentron@lemm.ee 3 points 4 days ago

Im talking about Rojava , Afghanistan , South Vietnam etc.. for Canada its less support more "ill wear your skin"

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Accept this declaration of economic war on your closest ally.

Whoa whoa whoa! Who said anything about tariffs on Israel?

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

Well if actions speak louder than words, I think you're right

[–] Zentron@lemm.ee 12 points 4 days ago

US became a rogue state back in 2016 , biden was just an attempt to calm the storm
