i think the thread starter question is more about if nato is even about to continue existing

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 38 points 12 hours ago

yes. he literally extorted Ukraine for political dirt on hunter biden. and then somehow he managed to peddle to people this year the lie that he could bring lasting and meaningful peace to Ukraine. i even know of a few Ukrainians who voted for him because they bought this lie.

it's a far less visible version of the people who thought voting for him would help Gaza. this dude's actions tell the story of a fascist dictator who wants to destroy every alliance america has ever had and buddy up to russia.

When they say "never forget" they mean "keep the terror and hurt close to you and push away all attempts to band together and grow"

The average republican voter (and American voter, regardless of party preference, really) doesn't actually understand how our government works. They think they vote November 2-8th, and the new government takes office as soon as the television declares a winner. And this includes people who participated in the January 6th insurrection. Some people who were there did not understand that what was really going on was an attempt to disrupt the certification of the electoral college ballots. They thought they were preventing a hostile government takeover (ironic). This is how powerful propaganda can be. It can inflame people who only kind of know what's going on into thinking they're experts. It tricks the sleeping into thinking they are away

one piece wins you over in phases. it starts out kinda operating in the "i wouldn't have sought this out initially, but it's fine enough to keep reading" until you get to a point where it's fully won you over and you have to know what happens next because it's your favorite thing

Janelle Monae crushes it in her role. I mean absolutely crushes it. In it she is acting in the role of a character acting in a role, which is actually really hard to do in a really satisfying way, and she absolutely pulls it off. What's more is that she lets the veil slip just enough, as an actress, for the character playing the role to be believable as an actress. Like her music and visual artistry as an R&B performer is incredible, but there's still a part of me that feels like the world lost something from her not going into acting. But if she had, she'd probably have put out an album that would make me lament she hadn't focused on R&B.

This is the banality of evil. It's what let the Nazis come to power in the 1930s and what allowed the Confederated States of America to coalesce into a feudal terror state. The majority of political movements are in some way horrible. Your best bet is to seek out marginalized people and find out what they've been doing to survive under the fascism they've had to exist under this entire time. They are experienced, they are prepared, and they need your help to expand their coalitions.

IQ tests are combo test of how white and how autistic are you. All tests are biased, and what do you bet when he got his super special smart boy IQ label he was in South Africa and the test administrator was another white dude.

there's something beautiful that every individual has their own image for what Baberaham Lincoln looks like. like you read that, and it evokes for you in your head your very own Baberaham Lincoln

I just want to have a discussion about this. All of the remakes and reboots hollywood has done throughout its history have always been a way of just making money by putting all the money on "sure" bets, things that producers already know people like because they were successful before, but there's something exceptionally soulless about the Disney reboots.

There seems to be no true desire to introduce a new generation to stories they weren't familiar with, but instead a desire to just rewrite disneys entire catalog to be presented in a new aesthetic. It's a homogenization of film to a single set of techniques and looks. Capitalism is directly strangling creativity and it's being successful enough that it's seemingly never going to stop. I mean. They're rebooting movies that aren't even 20 years old yet at this point. There are people in college seeing promos for reboots of movies their parents took them to as kids.

It's creating this environment where we're all stuck in this moment that already passed. The media we consume now was written in response to events that happened already, have passed us by, and can no longer be addressed. Any attempts to make new media that meet our current moment are stifled by studios who just... Don't care.

Well y'all finally went and did it. You got me to comment in your community, so now I gotta post something before I leave. I hope you're happy. I mean honestly. Is this what you wanted? Do you like this? Do you like my shitty shit post?

Don't ever let it be said I don't follow the rules

Posting from my alt account because file uploads seem to still not be working on beehaw

For the screen readers: This is a very small preying mantis that was on my door this morning. It is about the length of my first finger's first bone (the finger tip).

Lionir elected to prevent any potential data leaks by shutting down Beehaw until the issues lemmy.world and lemmy.blahaj.zone are identified and resolved

Not much to add. Saw it in another technology forum and thought it also belonged here for the solarpunks
