This is sort of restating Karl Poppers "Pardox of Intolerance". As Popper points out, If you do tolerate intolerance, you end up awash in intolerance.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance

The paradox of tolerance is a philosophical concept suggesting that if a society extends tolerance to those who are intolerant, it risks enabling the eventual dominance of intolerance; thereby undermining the very principle of tolerance. This paradox was articulated by philosopher Karl Popper in The Open Society and Its Enemies (1945)

Yeah, that's where my scintilla of empathy lies but with a mother this stupid, what hope for the kids ? And They're literally making everything worse for their kids

Huh, we lived for 10 years off grid as a couple on a 2kW solar sysyem. You just had to turn shit off ,that seems beyond most peoples ability to grasp.

We had no generator for backup.

And who has time to get a PhD in climate science, geology, virology, astronomy, physics, biology, history, chemistry etc.

I am lazy, an adopt Bertrad Russell's sceptisim framework,

If the excerpts broadly disagree, remain sceptical

If the experts broardy agree and you're not an expert, you're a fool to disagree.

These are Cipolla's five fundamental laws of stupidity:

Always and inevitably, everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.

The probability that a certain person (will) be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.

A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.

Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular, non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places, and under any circumstances, to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.

A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person.

12 hours of work a day is inappropriate.

I did that for years, its so they can run two shifts, had lots of days off though. I worked 14 on 7 off, then 8 on 6 off. Some are 7 on 7 off. 12 hr shift though. They are also paid extremely well. All meals are paid for etc.

What they don't get is a "normal life ", lots of marital breakdows, spousal abuse when they do get home, parters cheating etc.

The jobs that pay the least are the ones that should pay the most.

Dave Graeber made the pont about some of the most important jobs there are, end up with shitty wages and conditions. What's more important then food? without it, nothing else can happen.

Prions are scary shit. Not virus, bacteria or fungi but some wrongly folded proteins that are indestructible and contagious:

Indeed, autoclaves don't kill them, so they can spread on surgical instruments etc as well.

Seguey to an interesting article in the Financial Times about "have we reached peak intelligence"

The.comments from teachers were eye opening.

Three leading climate scientists have combined insights from 10 global climate models and, with the help of artificial intelligence (AI), conclude that regional warming thresholds are likely to be reached faster than previously estimated.

Mmmm faster then expected huh ?

If fossil fuels keep burning at present rates, we are headed for apocalyptic civilisational collapse. Perhaps even more strangely, there is no longer much serious disagreement about this claim.

$200bn wave of new gas projects could lead to a “climate bomb” equivalent to releasing the annual emissions of all the world’s operating coal power plants, according to a report.

Stupid headline aside

Dr Sebastian Pfautsch, an expert in urban planning and management at Western Sydney University, said the image of Mickleham left him feeling “angry and hopeless”.

“Angry because of the continued ignorance of builders and those that approve the new settlements. Hopeless because it is obvious that homeowners don’t care either,” he told news.com.au.

Professor Pfautsch said he was stunned builders were “making the same (design) mistakes” that had been repeated for decades in Australia.

“Badly insulated, single-glazed, black roofed, entirely unshaded homes will rely entirely on airconditioning at any outdoor temperature above 28 to 30C,” he said.

“They become very expensive to operate in summer. In the cost-of-living crisis today, people already make decisions between food on the table or running the airconditioning.

“Imagine what these families will endure in 20 to 30 years.”

Topping the “absurdity”, he said, was that many of the homes likely featured front and back yards made from plastic

The Greens will call News Corp Australia executives to appear before a Senate inquiry into greenwashing over a series of front pages promoting gas without clearly disclosing a commercial relationship with gas companies.

This melting will lead to a rise in sea levels of up to one metre, threatening millions of people in coastal areas.

That's just from Greenlands ice sheets (by 2100)

This is on point as well

Article is mostly how to profit of human stupidity but I thought this quote was salient and on topic. Not new for people who have paid attention though but a reminder.

"[The world] will have to produce approximately a billion tonnes of copper metal in the next 25 years to meet net zero targets," he said.

That is more copper than has ever been produced.

Clean energy might help deal with emissions, but it does nothing to reverse deforestation, overfishing, soil depletion and mass extinction. A growth-obsessed economy powered by clean energy will still tip us into ecological disaster.” - Jason Hickel

Land degradation is expanding worldwide at the rate of 1m sq km every year, undermining efforts to stabilise the climate, protect nature and ensure sustainable food supplies, a study has highlighted.

The degraded area is already 15m sq km, an area greater than Antarctica, the scientific report says, and it calls for an urgent course correction to avoid land abuse “irretrievably compromising Earth’s capacity to support human and environmental wellbeing”.

Seems unlikely that anything will be done then as we stroll purposefully and knowingly off the Seneca Cliff of civilisations collpase.
