my mom is pretty much fine. She hates politics and has enough sense to understand the news cycles exist to give people like her panic attacks, and she fucking hates donald trump and maga people and their hatreds with an intensity.

But my dad is down a Q rabbit hole, a maga guy, and some of it's pretty sad. He's getting fed stuff by the algorithm that's designed to prey on his insecurities and his pathologies. He's been abusing stimulants for years now, and that has caused him to lose almost all of his teeth. So of course he believes in a theory of medicine that lets you regrow teeth with a mild electrical current???

And like, we still talk - if i can keep him in a narrow range of his para politics interests we can shit on israel together, we can discuss a lot together. He gets into fights with people who agree with him more politically over me, because i'm trans? He's weird. He puts his family first and I believe that man would take a bullet for me, but he supports a ton of shit that's positioned against me, and is in total denial about that fact.

He's mentally ill and the algorithmically delivered content is making him worse. It's really depressing, and it's making him burn a lot of bridges in a really sad way.

I don't go around discoursing about video games, but if I was gonna make a Ciri game, I wouldn't make her a fuckin' witcher.

She can hop dimensions and teleport, for fucks sake there's a much more interesting story to be had than what the trailer indicates they're doing.

Really am not thrilled by this, but I'm still gonna play this slop and this is genuinely me being a weirdo about the lore and knowing what kind of potential her character has - "witcher" is the most boring thing they could've done.

But dont lump me in with the g*mers i dont care that much and i still adore ciri lol

i'm aware, it's a favored ending of mine, i just think it's a bad change/lore advancement, because Ciri is way more interesting than a witcher in terms of potential and kit

a worldhopping battle wizard feels more like what they should be doing if they're gonna do Ciri

i like the idea of being able to play a lady instead of Gruff Autistic Himbo Man but this sucks. ciri isn't a witcher, that trailer felt like it was trying to punch at the weight of the witcher 3 trailers but never quite hits

addiction is a motherfucker; once you're trained, and the initial training can be completely accidental or out of your hands in a tangible way, sobriety is something that requires discipline to maintain, the reward parts of your brain want more. ex smokers want the anxiety relief, alcoholics want to exist in that state because they feel more themselves in it now. It's especially hard if your addiction is socially acceptable. Alcoholics and nicotine addicts have to stare at their addictions every time they shop, go to a gas station, and in quite a lot of social situations. and quite often the brain, especially for the first few years, loves to invent reasons to relapse on sight/perception of the favored drug use, and logic and "good sense" are present all the way up to the point of use, telling you not to and it's happening anyway because addictions circumvent the rational. It's seriously just pure will for a while, and most people just do not have that in sufficient quantity.

the specific rationale will be different for everyone with the problem, but "taking the edge off" is implicate in the problem; their brain is screeching that they're not okay, not normal, and [thing] would fix it. That's all it is. It's sad. It really sucks to be around addicts of any type who are not in control, but... I really don't think of it as excuse - that person sincerely believes they need it and their brain is fully complicit in an unconscious and overpowering way.

i had a dream a few years ago where i lived in a world where a shitty rotten government let the crypto bros in and i remember waking up thinking it was so stupid in the exact way stuff-that-actually-happens was stupid.

Lots of people lose their ass and your paychecks just come in as a variable sum that is usually worth a bit less than what was promised, otherwise some people recover and life mostly goes on, slightly worse, with Feds on the blockchain monitoring your Good Citizen purchases. i think the prospect kinda sucks and i'm horrified that it might actually happen now.

Columbo is so good. It has valuable life lessons, such as "you absolutely left a ton of evidence of your crimes you idiot" and, "Rich people should be devoured at scale, swallowed whole" which, fair enough, isn;t something you need to just learn from columbo but also columbo is great

a) loves his wife back when that was essentially illegal on television b) really sweet to normal people c) absolute fae demon freak to wealthy people used to getting away with crimes
