I am an unrepentant movie rewatcher. When life is really stressful, my go-to is watching LOTR Extended Editions 40-60 mins at a time like it's a TV series lol. Also in heavy rotation at my house: The Martian, First Man, Ford v. Ferrari, Deja Vu (which is criminally underrated), MI: Fallout...a few others

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

A full rewatch of LOTR extended edition is at minimum a yearly tradition for me. Usually more, or just letting it play while I'm doing other things.

[–] Chetzemoka@startrek.website 3 points 2 years ago

Pre-pandemic it was my annual ritual to watch it while baking and decorating Christmas cookies. It's a great way to spend 12 hours. Maybe this year I can finally reinstate the tradition.

[–] llii@feddit.de 2 points 2 years ago

Deja Vu is pretty great!

[–] Lifebandit666@feddit.uk 11 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Serendipity.

We decided earlier we need to watch T2 tonight.

I watched it with the Eldest (12) son earlier in the year, now it's time to make the youngest (10) watch it.

He's already wearing the Arnold hoody we found in a charity shop, and singing "I need your clothes, your boots, your motorcycle" by Austrian Death Machine, he really needs some context.

Come with me if you want to live

This is parenting done right.

I rewatched it with the commentary recently and it was super interesting to hear about what went into its stunts and whatnot

[–] tdawg@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Honestly I hate rewatching things unless it’s been long enough that I’ve forgotten everything. Not much beats watching something good for the first time

[–] bighatchester@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I rewatch step Brothers pretty much every month and I've watched the batman(2022) probably about 5 or 6 times . And the spider verse movies many times . Actual most of the movies I watch lately are movies I've seen a few times already.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Don't forget Terminator 1.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

By golly, you're right! I should start there and just make a whole day of it.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Thats two whole things in a day. I'm not about to get crazy and add a third.

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Good point.

Terminator 2, even in its own plot, should have been the end of the franchise. sicko-wistful

[–] hexaflexagonbear@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago (3 children)

T1 and T2 were perfect movies. Really a shame they started piling garbage on. Same with first 2 alien movies

[–] M68040@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

A notable victim of the "keep milking the cash cow forever" mindset. Not many movies have the luxury of doing what they need to well then fucking off within two entries.

I did like the one from a couple years ago with old Sarah and the hybrid liquid/exoskeleton terminator. I would sacrifice that one for them to have not made all the other ones after 2 though.

[–] kilodelta@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

The hospital escape is my favorite scene in any movie.

[–] Talaraine@kbin.social 5 points 2 years ago

Totally agree. Sitting there watching in the theatre was the best unexpected cinematic pleasure ever. Just sheer jaw dropping wide eyed fascination.

The whole film holds up, my joint favourite film

[–] hexaflexagonbear@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I haven't seen the matrix in 8 months and it feels like an eternity

This is my other one too.

I also subscribe to the fan canon that The Matrix and Terminator are two different stories in the same universe.

[–] nevial@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 2 years ago

I'm not saying that I have so much to do, but I just have a hard time even managing to watch a single movie. I'm not wasting that by rewatching anything 😅

[–] GuStJaR@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I watched roadhouse for the 1st time last night :/

Why watch something new when you can watch scrubs and Malcolm in the middle where you can dub the actors because you know all the dialogue?

[–] kambusha@feddit.ch 2 points 2 years ago

Man, Malcolm in the Middle is such a good show. Also, it never really had a bad season I feel, and they ended it at the right moment.

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I feel you brother. Me rewatching Star Trek is obvious but I'll be damned if I haven't seen the 80s Clue movie a hundred times.

Men should be like Kleenex. Strong, soft and disposable.

Glorious.

Clue is so incredibly rewatchable. It's just a fun movie.

Adventure Time and Total Recall

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The time between these two makes me picture very different people. Lol

Guess 1: Young enough that you were the target audience for Adventure Time, but also developed a penchant for Arnold Schwarzenegger action movies.

Guess 2: Old enough that Total Recall isn't that out of reach for you, but you like to smoke and watch chill cartoons.

[–] ProxyTheAwesome@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Never watched TV shows with your kids? Boomer stoner dad never crossed your mind!

Haha, touché. That's also the perfect crossover demographic for this.

[–] micnd90@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This is me but with video games.

I replayed action games like DMC3,4,5, Bayonetta, MGR, Ninja Gaidens and Souls game like DS1,2,3, Sekiro in constant rotation. At some point the intense gameplay just become a comfy single player flow state. Recently Hi-Fi Rush has entered the rotation. Unfortunately, Elden Ring is out of the club for now because it is too goddamn long.

All the soulsborne games for me too. Also ninja gaiden, but the NES ones.

[–] son_named_bort@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Same with TV shows. I could watch a new show, or I could watch the monorail episode of The Simpsons. I know what I'm picking.

If I could find a good way to play Futurama episodes on shuffle, I'd be set.

[–] BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 years ago

I like to rewatch Miyazaki, when I need some feel good movies.

And sometimes I start humming the score for Dune 1984, and then I know it's time for a rewatch.

[–] uralsolo@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

Me but with Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Space Ghost Coast to Coast.

[–] daellat@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Why yes I will rewatch BoB a 7th time if I must.

Mad God was my favorite movie of 2021. Part because it's the only movie of 2021 i've watched, and part because i've watched it five times and i think about it constantly
