Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Nothing will meaningfully improve until the rich fear for their lives

Can we just scrap the Untied States and start over? This franchise needs a reboot

[–] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 2 points 15 hours ago

Back to Britain

We have a constitution so old as to be a relic, antique. No well run democracy still uses a constitution that old, because they've made huge improvements in the past couple centuries. We should absolutely start from scratch.

The cowardice of it being an unsigned letter is almost the most galling part. Sniveling authoritarian cowards

[–] IamLost@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

When no one signs, they all signed

Except those who dissented publicly, right? Pretty sure Sotomayor was pretty publicly pissed off at the rest of the court.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 45 points 2 days ago

So many people here are always pushing this "they're all the same" bullshit and it's starting to get very fucking tired.

It is so goddamn disingenuous.

The voices of reason are becoming outweighed here.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 2 days ago (11 children)

Yeah so let's just ignore that they exist.

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You misunderstood me, possibly because you were telling me to go fuck myself on another post. "Assaultpotato" is a voice of reason on this post. People read a news story about the Supreme Court staying an order and now want to impeach the whole Court?

I'm afraid the politics and news communities hosted on Lemmy servers are falling off the deep end.

It was one commenter and the following comments rebuking them are much more highly upvoted. It's maybe a bit early to stick a fork in it.

Cool. So if I join ICE, am I allowed to sneak up on random people and toss em in my van?

You don't even have to join. ICE wears plainclothes, drives unmarked vehicles, wears masks, and never shows their badge. Anyone can be ICE.

Their recruiters admire your ambition and will be in touch.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Well, brown people, yeah. I thought that was obvious.

Clearly the peaceful protests are working!

[–] quetzaldilla@lemmy.world 47 points 1 day ago (14 children)

At the last protest, I embraced a crying queer young adult for over an hour, because they were completely beside themselves.

They had a mental breakdown because they didn't even realize they were living with so much stress and fear these past few months.

And when they finally summoned the courage to show up to their very first protest in their young life, they SO relieved that so many people CARED about that happened to them that it completely overwhelmed them.

So please and kindly, shut the fuck up.

A lot of folks forget that peaceful protests are a great way to get people together and doing something, even if that something is initially just catharsis. Even if things escalate to... let's say spray painting JD Vance oompa loompa graffiti everywhere... forming up at protests is how you can make that happen.

Thanks for being there. We need more people like you.

[–] Bane_Killgrind@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thank you for helping that person

[–] quetzaldilla@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

And I'll do it again, and again if I have to.

They looked about ready to hang themselves, I'm just so glad they managed to hang on for so long.
