If there is one thing the workers can't stand, it is occasionally getting paid to go fishing or crack open a cold one and grill outdoors.

[–] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 53 points 1 week ago

Surely just a coincidence blob-no-thoughts

Everyone here (or maybe it was Hasan, I can't remember) always says not to think of the republican working class as just a bunch of braindead morons, just people who are misguided; Well this is the ultimate test on whether they really are stupid or not.

[–] Cimbazarov@hexbear.net 34 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I mean alot of them are petty bourgeois small business owner tyrants and might even work during holidays so they probably want everyone at their level

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago (3 children)

The only holiday I don't recognize is memorial day.

I was thinking of the grind culture fucks who brag about working 294 hours a week, but even they would refrain from supporting holiday cuts. Can’t think of anyone in the workplace who wants be known as that guy

The "Outlaw" biker clubs coming out to lick the cops boots in Portland isn't a great sign

He’s saying this on Juneteenth because IDK he couldn’t pick up a book of stamps or something. When it’s Fourth of July he’ll be all like “the hard working Americans earned this holiday.” It’s not so much the racism as it is “What do you mean I can’t buy stamps on a Wednesday, this is America!”

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 62 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I lived in rural Tennessee when I was a child in the 90s. On MLK day the bank, THE BANK, changed their sign to read, "WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER N_R HOLIDAY". They spelled it out fully. Not a digital sign. They did the lettering one by one.

This tweet has the same vibe.

Oh, and if anyone wants to know it was Waynesboro. Fuck that town.

[–] grendahlgrendahlgen@hexbear.net 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Virginia changed it to Lee/Jackson/King Day, to honor Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson

Oh…I didn’t even think of the racist angle, I thought it was a vile attack on the working class

[–] SerLava@hexbear.net 26 points 1 week ago

definitely both

[–] SerLava@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He did say this before - in addition to hating Juneteenth he also hates all paid holidays

[–] HumongousChungus@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago

Hates ending slavery... hates paying people... hmmm....

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

Knowing the hogs, they would think it’s a great insult that they have to be pried from their oh so precious boss even for the great satan’s birthday.

Hell, they’d be the types advocating they give their boss a “day off” from paying them.

leader of only country with 0 federally mandated holidays: we have too many holidays

trump is gonna make us tip our boss for the privilege of “providing us with a job” bro 😭 that’s why he said no taxes on tips

I read When Serfs Stood Up In Tbet recently, and found it to be a dark omen. Reading the descriptions of the omnipresent environment of predation and the myriad ways people were exploited, has me wondering when they'll bust out the subscription fees for every flower pot.

I just hate that people buy the narrative that we need to penny pinch to the point where you cant take a day off otherwise the American economy is going to explode. Pretty sure if 100% of the bullshit jobs went away and people got paid the same as if they had them, our economy wouldnt be any different

[–] Sulvy@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

Most of us don't even get paid for them.

My current sales job is the only one I have ever had that gives holiday pay.

[–] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 33 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

I worked in food service and retail for a long time before I stumbled my way into manufacturing, and federal holidays were actually the worst. Some of the busiest days of the year when we had to serve all these hogs. Some places at least paid time and a half, but many don't even do that.

[–] WashedAnus@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago (2 children)

And they're always saying shit like, "Can't believe they're making you work on [holiday name]!" Like, yeah, you're the reason why

[–] Des@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

Yep. I hate and despise every. single. holiday. with every fiber of my soul. and i hate that i hate them.

my parents: "but the holiday party starts at 11 am don't you want to see your sis!"

me: "i'll be lucky to get off by 4 pm and still have to shower because i am a sweaty disgusting mess"

them: "it's 5pm where are you? everyone is leaving!"

me, exhausted and driving an hour and a half to get to them hating the fucking holidays and they forget every time (my family works civil service)

Yep. I worked at 711 for 6 years and 4th of July/memorial day were the worst.

[–] Dimmer06@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

Yeah huge numbers of the worst off workers already don't get shit for holidays and have to deal with everyone else's privilege on those days. The rational part of my brain doesn't want any working person to lose that benefit but part of me really couldn't give a shit. Especially so because any time I say "maybe everything should be closed on holidays, not just your job" to a white collar worker they act like I said we should ritually sacrifice their dog.

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

My last job had holiday pay. And travel pay. And health insurance. On paper it paid less than my current job, but god damn did it pay so much more in practice.

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 32 points 1 week ago

For people who love to talk about how Republicans ended slavery, Republicans sure seem to hate Juneteenth...

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 32 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Cancelling holidays is incredibly risky behavior. This has played parts in past revolutions.

[–] CTHlurker@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago

When our SocDem-junta decided to cancel a 400 year old holiday, our incredibly cucked unions are began talking like Rosa Luxemberg for like 3 days. It was one of the strangest things I've ever seen, even if they ultimately backed down because the SocDems promised to let them be more racist against poles and romanians.

Actually, I support a 4 day work week with 25 days annual leave.

I’m having a hard time getting a permanent job. Y’all need to save some work for the rest of us goku-halal

Sent from the 13th tee at Mar-a-Lago.

In my country the government recently abolished a holiday in order to get more money to fund more military so they could fight Russia.

It was a huge success. Workers have been extatic about getting to work a day more instead of relaxing. The popularity of the government has skyrocketed ever since.

Pretty sure just in March/April alone in Denmark we have Skærtorsdag (Thursday before Easter), Langfredag (Good Friday), then Anden påskedag (Monday after Easter), Kristi himmelfartsdag (Ascension day), birthday of Queen Margaret (April 16th), and International Workers Day (May 1st) as paid holidays

[–] Mardoniush@hexbear.net 24 points 1 week ago

Funs fact, in the anglosphere Labour Day is on all different days (often celebrating something like the 8 hour day) because our governments were so shit scared of Communism they wouldn't dare make it May 1
