Yes. The thing was to showcase 250 years of American Army, not modern shit.

I would have loved it for historical interest if anyone else was President :(

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 hours ago

Apparently they had to rent them from movie prop houses.

Doesn't matter. Hell just lie and say 800 million people attended.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 6 points 12 hours ago (6 children)

So 8 highschools. That's pretty good. A well known Mexican Pueblo doesn't even match that by at least 5 or 6 more people for Sunday church.

[–] macaw_dean_settle@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Not even 4 for my area. Those are some pretty small schools if it took 8.

Not sure I believe that number. But hell, I can't estimate crowds to save my life. At one point I was in the largest rock concert of all time, still have no clue.

All I can say is the one I went to easily had 2,000. And that's in the reddest part of Florida, and only 1 of 2 protests in Pensacola.

Rockfest, Texas Motor Speedway, 1998?

[–] joby@programming.dev 2 points 12 hours ago

Not sure if I'm misunderstanding you here... But the number from this post is for the stupid military parade in DC with the tanks, not the no kings protests. I've seen claims that there were over 6 million attendees for those.

Is that for people in the parade? Or forced to watch it in person?

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 18 points 17 hours ago (4 children)

They advertised for seat fillers, so a lot of those people were literally paid to be there.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago

You saw a satire ad. That was not real.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 9 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

More likely they were promised payment, but have yet to collect.

If anyone dealing with him doesn't get paid up front, that's on them at this point, though.

[–] proper@lemmy.world 8 points 17 hours ago

IF that’s the same thing I’m thinking of, that was a satire piece. BUT it’s possible there was something else I didn’t see after that.

[–] ch00f@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

Show me a photo of someone holding the check they received for filling a seat.

[–] Alaik@lemmy.zip 10 points 17 hours ago

Well never get the real numbers. Im sure at least half weren't there willingly.

Not to judge, but that "crowd" looks a bit, uh, frumpy.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 7 points 16 hours ago

Nah, it was bigger than Obama’s inauguration.
