Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Monday removed every member of a scientific committee that advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on how to use vaccines and pledged to replace them with his own picks.

The 17-member Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices had been in a state of flux since Kennedy took over. Its first meeting this year had been delayed when the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services abruptly postponed its February meeting.

Let me guess which experts will get hired in their places

One will be a 22 years old gardener with 4 years of extensive research on vaccines on various forums

Another one will be someone with a master's degree in arts but with ten years experience on bashing against vaccines on sitter

Then there will be an high school dropout that became rich selling supplements on a website that is advocating using chlorine as eyedrop

Finally some stay at home mom with 5 years of experience selling essential oils, specialized in curing any kind of disease, even terminal cancer

In 2019 I asked my doctor about boosting all of my vaccinations and adding a few extra because of my work travel. He asked if I was traveling to a third world country. I said, "Yes, the United States." He boosted my MMR and DTAP and added Hep-A and - B and yellow fever.

[–] Demonmariner@lemmy.world 27 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

What everyone in the US should do RIGHT NOW is get all the currently recommended vaccines for their age group and health conditions. There is a high probability that they will either become unavailable or not covered by insurance in the near future.

No kidding, do it now, and see that your family members do the same.

[–] Hazor@lemmy.world 10 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Nurse here: I have a hard time imagining vaccines won't be covered by insurance unless federal law starts to prohibit it for some bonkers reason. Vaccines are the simplest and most effective prevention for a number of illnesses which can require expensive care. And they're cheap. Vaccines are good for the bottom line. Like, they're practically gold. If they didn't make financial sense, insurance companies wouldn't be covering them. It would be unfathomable for insurance companies to elect not to cover them unless they can also elect not to cover treatment for the resultant illness.

That said, I think the much more likely thing is RdumbFucK Jr. trying to make them unavailable, because clearly someone who has zero training in medicine or infectious disease or any science of any kind knows better than the collective consensus of the entire world's medical community... So, get your vaccinations while you can.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 17 hours ago

insurance encourage vaccinations the ones that are approved, simply because any infections is more expensive than a vaccine down the line.

Ok so I'm british so you will have to forgive my ignorance but how did the most stupid cunts in your country get in charge is it really that corrupt?

[–] bitwolf@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 day ago (3 children)

As a Millenial I have witnessed attacks on the quality of our education since I've been conscious.

I think the symptoms of cutting education over and over and over again are finally showing

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 5 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

the attack has been ongoing for decades, im also a milleneal. this is from a blue area. its underfunded, if they have to pass failing students there is a problem(participation grades has been occurring since the early 2000s. the interesting thing is this plays right into being fodder for military recruitment too. just near my area theres at least 2-3 different service recruiment stations(usually around malls) within a couple miles radius. 1-2 extremely close another highs school. they are almost never in or near wealthy areas. go a little outside of city, in another out of the waymall is another recruitment center.

they love to glorify the few gifted/4.0 students at our schools and neglecting everyone else.

We have another issue here there's old rasicts who pretend they remember the glory of the empire but the empire died way before they where born and they think Europe killed it so they hate Europe with a passion. It's fuckinf stupid but the papers here have alot of power over the retarded, we now have a fox news type thing but it's so shit it's just funny.

[–] bitwolf@sh.itjust.works 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

There not news remember! They're Fox Entertainment.

They admitted they are not factual, and thus are not news.

[–] Schadrach@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 8 hours ago

They admitted they are not factual, and thus are not news.

More specifically there was a case where a Fox News "reporter" was asked to do a story on something and what they saw did not match the narrative at all, they refused to play along and were fired for not telling the story the network wanted to tell. They sued, and the argument from Fox was that only the shows literally called the news were news and had any need to be truthful, everything else is opinion or entertainment and thus could lie as much as they wanted. If you look at their current schedule, I'm pretty sure "news" is down to the 11PM Fox News @ Night, the closest anything else gets is being "geared towards" news.

[–] Altruistic_Flower@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago

This. Education or lack thereof is why we are where we are.

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

money. no US based news even reported on the racist, insane shit Trump was saying. constantly. you'd be hard pressed to hear Trumps voice before the election in the US, Fox was running 24hr news reals of "dirty Mexicans are flooding over the boarder killing and raping white women everywhere in the US" just over and over again. social media was flooded with posts of "Biden and Harris are Pro-Israel here's Israel killing children in gaza again" over and over. we had relatively low voter turn out, lot of very sudden voting changes right before the election, and Bezos, and Musk openly moving heaven and hell to support Trump. This is what capital wanted. a horrid, corrupt government that can be wielded with little effort.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

yup, because all the MSMs are actually owned by conservatives hence the sudden change+ they had republican celebrities come out the woodwork to drum up more support, one thing cons love is celebrities, and gossip, its also to obfuscate republican, right winger roles in the epstein files/diddy.

[–] 10001110101@lemm.ee 3 points 17 hours ago

We let the rich, who aren't necessarily the smartest people, get too rich, so they gained too much power. Worldwide problem though, as their influence doesn't stop at borders.

Older American here, I remember the Before Times, so I can speak to how I've seen things change/crumble. Over the last twenty or so years everything has really accelerated. Social media is the biggest tool that outside and internal forces have used to destabilize democracy.

Democratic rule is terrible for business, people may make choices against your bottom line. On top of that, people like Iran, Russia, many others out there, want to crush America and never gave up their wars against us.

The KGB handbook details how to do what's been done to the US in great detail, how to amplify and boost the most confusing, chaotic rage-bait from both sides of every contentious issue until people basically tune out and just go along with whatever the government says. Makes people not get involved in electoral politics anymore. They did this in other countries that they've absorbed/annexed or have created sympathetic populations within.

If it was just Russia we probably could have countered it and defended better against it, but you combine that with the efforts of many other cells, different nations and contracted organizations doing the same thing, then add dopamine-addicting social-media algorithms and a deeply sabotaged education system, carefully tweaked interest rates and health-care obstacles, so that people are forced to work 6-days a week and are barely able to afford anything and can't spend any time learning or being curious, then a lot of very strategic messaging targeting specific portions of the population with racist, xenophobic ideas, and you have what we have now. A huge population held hostage by the smallest, dumbest, loudest segment.

And it's coming for you next.

(Also, this was all done before AI could specifically target every individual's most personal fears, desires and vulnerabilities, and could produce 100% convincing images and videos. We are all massively, thoroughly fucked.)

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

I'm not old, but not young either, and I'd agree with your observations. It's getting very concerning.

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

I'm worried about my country becoming the Christian version of Iran.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This can all be tied back to Fox News really.

This is what happens when you let a propaganda channel masquerade as news for 3 decades in your country with basically no pushback.

Just the fact that they haven't somehow been sued into oblivion, or curtailed by the government at all lends legitimacy to them.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

The thing is, they were just sued for like a billion dollars by Dominion over the voting machine bullshit.. and it's just a drop in the bucket for their legal team.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 17 hours ago

now it largely branched out to propaganda networks, which is a favorite among millneals, genz conservative like oan and newsmax. additionally they follow the right wing grifters now.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 17 hours ago

on reddit i was pointing out in the 1st term of trump how much russian back articles were being pushed on the subs, it was clear by then how they were moderating it even back then too.(this was before russia had a hold over r/conservative)

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

A combination of propaganda and fear.

how did the most stupid cunts get in charge

Same way as in yours. Lot of cross pollination of the back end guys, actually.

is it really that corrupt

No, no. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

how did the most stupid cunts in your country get in charge

Same way they got in charge of the UK.

There's an entire media ecosystem dedicated to protecting the ego of the stupid from the reality of their choices.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

Et tu, Brexit?

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 17 hours ago

propaganda, fear/mysogyny/racism, and election machine rigging via musk satellite.

[–] fodor@lemmy.zip 1 points 19 hours ago

Yes, and you should understand the corruption quite well seeing it firsthand over there, right? (Sad to say.)

“A clean sweep is needed to re-establish public confidence in vaccine science.”

These professionals are widely trusted, asshole. It's your lunatic fringe base that mistrusts them!

"73% of people feel that vaccines are safe and 77% think they are effective. 79% of those surveyed said they believe it’s important for children to have vaccines and 54% feel that vaccines are compatible with their religious beliefs."

[–] lennivelkant@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 14 hours ago

Wait, people have religious objections to vaccines? Do they worship St. Influenza or what? Is this the Church of Virus Christus? Latter Day Plagues? Cough-olic? Je-fever's Witnesses?

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 day ago (9 children)

To be fair, or something, i dont really care what the general public thinks about vaccines. The general public is really really dumb, generally speaking, and won't really be able to judge any of this.

Vaccines should be mandatory for everyone, period. Obly allowed exception should be for proven medical reasons. Religion doesn't matter, you get vaccinated, period.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I do care. I would like them to be less dumb. I have to live in a world with these people, and you cant just treat them like objects without big sacrifices, socially psychologically and logistically.

RFK jr reminds me of Mother Theresa - steadfastly certain of his rightness and while perpetrating the most terrible suffering through his actions. He is the worst kind of evil - stubborn and blind to the demonstrable suffering and harm he is causing.

Of course he did. Roadkill Fucking Kennedy is a goddamn idiot and is going to get thousands, maybe tens of thousands of people fucking killed.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

one of his favorite past time was using his falcon to hunt RATS and feed it those trash rodents, im wouldnt be surprised if he also ate rats. i wonder if he tried RACCOON before, because those are everywhere, probably too risk as raccoons carry 1-2 parasites that are quite deadly. one of the parasites was featured in a House episodes.

The cover story seems reasonable

"Kennedy said the committee members had too many conflicts of interest. Currently, committee members are required to declare any potential such conflicts, as well as business interests, that arise during their tenure."

But will RFKjr replace them with equally qualified, unbiased, incorruptible experts?

I doubt it.
