Israel just carried out a widespread bombing of Iran, which has killed a number of senior officials inside Iran (though it seems the leadership is more-or-less intact) as well as a number of civilians. Important facilities have been targeted, but the amount of damage is unknown so far (note that many important Iranian facilities are deep underground, making them both hard to damage but also hard to determine if they are damaged from just satellite imagery, so reports of damage will be he-said-she-said).

It appears the attack took Iran by surprise, given that a residential block was targeted that contained some senior officials - if one saw an attack coming, one would imagine they'd be in bunkers. Nonetheless, like the rest of the Resistance Axis, I suspect that Iran has adapted their military structures to be resistant to decapitation strikes by ensuring that replacement figures are ready to take the place of killed officials.

Iran has delivered a massive missile barrage in response to Israeli aggression, even though Israel is continuing to bomb Iran. Iran is now aware of the location of many important Israeli sites, including secret nuclear sites, due to their recent intelligence haul, giving them a distinct edge.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

The World's smallest violin is playing for the 5 bolsonarista mayors cowering in a Tel Aviv bomb shelter, including Belo Horizonte Mayor Álvaro Damião, after their visit to strike security & surveillance deals with Israeli firms was interrupted by their hero Netanyahu's new war

With all of Israel's US-supported war crimes against Iran, the fact that Jair Bolsonaro incriminated himself in his trial for plotting to enact a military coup was buried in the news cycle.

At times like this, it's worth remembering how close the Brazilian far right is to the genocidal Israeli government. It explains why a group of Bolsonarista mayors are currently cowering in a Tel Aviv bomb shelter begging the Lula govt to help get them out of there.

Per Haaretz, the Israeli government has forbidden airlines from carrying Israeli citizens abroad on their "rescue" flights to bring back Israeli tourists. Obviously there's immense demand to flee a sinking ship, and they're barring the exits. https://xcancel.com/i/status/1934314561282142323

Looks like the latest wave of ballistic missiles towards Israel was a volley of around 30 missiles, with a direct hit in Haifa, and possibly 2 more hits elsewhere.

More waves are likely on the way in the coming hours.

Here's a video of some Arrow 2 interceptions. Note the massive shrapnel cloud from the large warhead of the Arrow 2 interceptor, which uses both kinetic hit to kill interception and blast fragmentation. This helps explain the large flaming pieces of debris, even if an Arrow 2 doesn't land a direct hit, the Iranian missile re-entry vehicles get shredded into multiple pieces by all the shrapnel, while still continuing on their ballistic trajectory.

Iran is under attack which means Israel will likely be under attack soon as well

[–] companero@hexbear.net 34 points 1 hour ago (4 children)

I can't shake the feeling that Israel/US/Russia/China are all operating on the basis of super tight deadlines. It feels like they all believe WW3 is right around the corner, which means it probably is.

[–] daofaorao@hexbear.net 13 points 37 minutes ago (1 children)

what gives you that feeling, exactly? israel's initial attack on iran? the united states' erratic moves the past few years?

  1. years of massive buildip in major powers in retaliation to buildup from other major powers
  2. some small conflict or event escalates into skirmishing or war over smaller power
  3. since x power is making moves after their build up now is the best time for me to do it too
  4. a bunch of powers simultaneously convince themselves that the others are preparing to attack so make preparations to do the same thing first
  5. ah gee whizz everyone's at war

Huge turnout at a second Dutch protest seeking gov’t action against Israel

An estimated 100,000 demonstrators in the Netherlands donned red clothing and marched to protest the Dutch government’s policy toward Israel. Protesters walked a 5km (3-mile) loop around the centre of The Hague to symbolically create the red line they say the government has failed to draw to halt Israel’s campaign in Gaza. “I don’t want to be complicit in these horrendous crimes happening there, and I want to speak out,” protester Marin Koning said.

The protest sent a “clear signal”, according to Marjon Rozema of Amnesty International Netherlands. Dutch officials must “act now, at both the national and international level, to increase the pressure on the Israeli government,” she said in a statement.

I hope I'm not making you think of yet another thing to worry about. I hope I don't have conspiracy theory brain but it's weird to me how there's been no news about bird flu in the US for - I dunno - ~2 weeks? It's hard (if not impossible) for me to think everything is hunky-dory.

NEW: US aircraft carrier USS Nimitz sails for the Middle East

Source: Channel 12

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 24 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

That would be 3 aircraft carriers in the Arabian Sea/Persian Gulf, with 2 of them equipped with F-35s. HMS Prince of Wales has F-35Bs, USS Carl Vinson has F-35Cs and EA-18Gs with the Next Generation Jammer (NGJ) pods. Nimitz has the older F/A-18s and EA-18Gs.

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 16 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I'm surprised they'd sit there? Isnt that well within range of Iran's anti ship arsenal?

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 10 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 49 minutes ago) (2 children)

Depends. If they sit in the Arabian sea off of the coast of Oman, cruise missiles/one way attack drones would either have to go around or over the Al Hajar Mountains, taking advantage of the geography for defence. Think that's where the USS Carl Vinson was last spotted.

For anti ship ballistic missiles, the main worry is Raad-500/Tankeel, which Iran has plenty of, and a 500km range. Then there's Zulfiqar Basir with 700km range but lees advanced than Tankeel, and the latest Qassem Basir with 1200km range, but the Qassem Basir is a brand new missile, not sure how many Iran has. I think they might've given a few to Yemen.

An aircraft carrier off of the coast of Salalah, Oman, should even be out of range of the Qassem Basir when launched from the Iranian mainland though.

Are we going to see a carrier kill?

[–] TommyBeans@hexbear.net 43 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I would love if the first carrier sunk is the Nimitz, I wasted four years on that piece of shit. I would feel bad for the 5000 people on board, but get fucked. Pick a different job.

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 23 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

no chance it has some impossibly small hole that makes the whole thing blow up at once if you hit it?

[–] TommyBeans@hexbear.net 17 points 53 minutes ago

Even better, China and I think Iran/Russia have carrier killer missiles designed for this. War game simulations showed us getting absolutely bodied by them; I spent most of deployment daydreaming about getting hit so I hope we get footage somehow to see how close my imagination was.

Funny how I was just thinking about that, I read a 72Trillion post further down that said Iran’s uranium concentration bunkers are 800m+ underground, but the tunnels shoot off in horizontal directions for hundreds of feet every 50m. Prevents dumb yanks from trying a star wars

Israel is still getting to high Iran officials

The intelligence chief of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Mohammad Kazemi, and his deputy were killed in Israel's attacks on Tehran on Sunday, Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency said.

https://www.middleeasteye.net/live/israel-targets-iran-nuclear-sites-and-military-commanders-major-attack

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 17 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

No idea why top Iranian officials are still in Tehran when Israel is dropping JDAMs and SPICE bombs all throughout Tehran. Admit that you don't control the airspace there and relocate to the East.

[–] newacctidk@hexbear.net 13 points 1 hour ago

Yeah just because you can endure those losses organizationally, does not mean you should have to.
