Balatro. Into the Breach. Dead Cells. Slay the Spire.

All have Play Store versions and all kick ass.

[–] grandepequeno@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

Adding to this: Ascension, Luck Be a Landlord, Slice & Dice, Peglin? (Peglin is great on the computer, but I see it’s free with in-app purchases on my phones so I’m a little sus about that)

[–] regul@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The in-app purchase is just to unlock the full game. You can play the first map for free.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

That’s cool! I am no longer sus.

Ascension has in app purchases but they’re to unlock whole expansions of the card game, and they’re “buy once keep forever” even across the game switching owners and interfaces (unfortunately to its detriment, but it’s still fun). The expansions are like 30+USD for the physical card game and like 5-7 for the computer/phone version, so decently priced. I got some on sale for like three money.

Is Into the Breach still only for Netflix customers on mobile?

[–] cRazi_man@europe.pub 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, you can play the Switch version with Emulation and it works perfectly with just touchscreen controls.

Emulators and rom hacks! That's what I always loved doing.

Anything by Yiotro. . They're all free, with no ads or microtransactions and no data transfer anywhere. It is surprising how little battery they eat up due to this. Most of them are some form of "popular game devolved a bit to make it play easy on a phone, including the ability to just bail at any moment", i.e. Vodobanka is basically Doorkickers without the bells and whistles. Antiyoy is distilled Civ and has the same addiction loop of one more round.

Whole hours flew by when I installed that. The AI seems weaker than the desktop version, but it's still fun

Polytopia: small simplified 4x type game Shattered Pixel Dungeon: rougelike Dungeon crawler

Are you a Stardew Valley fan? The android version is just as good as PC, the touch controls work well aside from being a little tougher to use the sword

My recommendation would be to get emulation set up and take a small controller with you. Then a world of full quality games are open to you. Even if you don't have a controller, many games work well with a touch screen.

  • Wordscapes - super casual crossword+sudoku mix with infinite levels. No idea how unpaid version is though, I got the game a long time ago when going ad-free was like $1.99.

  • Archmage - goofy card game with busted mechanics and terrible art. 10/10 would recommend if you like janky M:tG knockoffs.

  • Magic: the Gathering: Arena - this can be difficult to climb as a free to play, but if you're good at Limited you can go close to infinite. Your options for Constructed will be choked, though. Still, its Magic on mobile you can play on your phone and has cross-platform play.

  • Quadropoly - free Monopoly clone that let's you play the game normally or change rules to your own tastes.

  • Any Kairosoft game - a lot of fun pixel RPGs from this company that are a blast to play. They have free demo versions and paid versions. I like Dungeon Village and Beastie Bay.

[–] FishLake@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 day ago

Love that game. So what’s your strat for getting lots of Yomi in stage 3?

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

I haven't played much of his newer stuff, but I like a lot of Arnold Rauers' games, especially Card Thief and Card Crawl

The Room series (1-3, Old Sins)

The House of Da Vinci series (1-3)

Meridian 157 series (Prologue, Chapters 1-3)

Legacy series (1-4, Reawakening) (not as good as the games above this)

Geoguessr

I think these are all paid games, fyi

EDIT: actually these might not be great for work.

The room. So good

OpenMW runs on android, pretty sure, if you want something a little deeper.
