It looks like the spat between India and Pakistan could be dying down, due to a new ceasefire. As of the time of me writing this paragraph, it seems both sides want to maintain it (despite some reports of violations here and there).

Both sides have declared victory, which is completely expected given their mutual political parties and nationalist histories. It's a little harder to say which side has actually won, as both sides seem to have managed to shoot down aircraft and hit military bases. India has, in my opinion, had the more embarrassing moments, but international conflicts aren't cringe compilations. I feel no good-will towards Pakistan's comprador government, but it is at least nice to see Modi knocked down a few pegs. Regardless of the final technical victor, it's obvious that - if the ceasefire is maintained - who won are the hundreds of millions of people who won't have to live in fear of dying in nuclear hellfire.

This conflict is a good example of what multipolarity will truly entail. Countries that have been previously limited in their nationalist ambitions by American pressure will now take opportunities to revolt, sometimes against America itself, and sometimes against other countries in their regional neighbourhood. It's also why, as communists, our goals do not stop at multipolarity; it is merely the establishing act of a new era of agitation against peripheral and semi-peripheral capitalist countries that are forming powerful national bourgeoisie classes as the international American capitalists are forced away.

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.

I dunno if something changed with the algorithm or if there’s some sort of psyop going on, but a lot of my social media has been pushing Palestine lately. Like, where was this 14+ months ago? I’m mostly just taking psychic damage from it now.

On Nakba Day, we release the first English translation of Basil al-Araj’s essay “The Wounded Memory of the Nakba”. In harrowing detail, it describes several theaters of extermination during the Zionist colonization of Palestine in 1947-49.

https://newyorkwarcrimes.com/the-wounded-memory-of-the-nakba

Translated by Alex Jreisat, the text was generously provided by Safarjal Press, who in consultation with al-Araj’s family and friends have edited a full English translation of al-Araj’s I HAVE FOUND MY ANSWERS (2018), where this essay was first published in Arabic.

Many people are rightfully angry about Trump’s assault on public institutions, but I believe the endgame is far more sinister than “fascists are dumb and fell for the DEI bullshit so they sabotage their own country”.

One question I’ve seen some people raising is: why don’t the bourgeois elites do something about it? Why let Trump ravage cut off billions of university fundings and cleaving off many government agencies that serve actual purposes, to the detriment of even the bourgeois class itself?

Well, if you follow the trajectory to its endpoint, it all makes sense. The bourgeois class is poised to reap the ultimate benefits of Trump’s misbehavior.

Many people can see the goal of ultimately privatizing these government agencies, but this is not just a mindlessly forced privatization of public institutions. Instead, it is to foment a new narrative about the perils of nationalization.

As people are becoming increasingly critical about billionaires and private capital owning large chunks of the economy, left wing narrative on nationalization has gained traction in recent years, at least in reasserting control on critical sectors.

In my opinion, Trump has correctly demonstrated the true unfettered authority of the federal government. Yes, the executive branch can really do all that and get away with it, in spite of what the Democrats tell you about the complex rules and Republican obstructionism. The federal government is so powerful that it can literally tax away all the wealth of the billionaire class and get away with it. Not even Harvard backed by multi-billion private capital can possibly fight the authority with the power of the purse. The government can end homelessness and give free universal healthcare in a moment’s notice.

These would have infinitely improved the lives of the people and curbed the political and economic influence of the wealthy elites. But.. there is a BUT:

What if the government use its authority for nefarious purposes, like Trump is doing right now?

“What, you want universities to be funded by the government? Have you seen what Trump has done? Do you want billions of funding to be abruptly cut off just because right wingers are scared of DEI? That’s why you need FREE MARKET! No matter your ideology, there will be someone willing to finance your institutions. Free market is DIVERSITY! Nationalization is authoritarianism where absolute power will absolutely corrupt!”

I think when Trump’s shenanigans finally end, a new wave of criticisms against the excess power of the federal government would emerge. This will lead to further decentralization of its authority, and pave the way towards mass privatization with consent manufactured.

I haven’t seen people from the left talking about this and I think that if the left is serious, they have to start conceiving of counter-narratives, or else they’ll just be caught off guard by this new phase of capitalism, once again. Remember when the American left completely failed to achieve any concession on healthcare during Covid because they were so afraid of being seen as touting right wing conspiracy theories? Same principles here.

Several American F-16s and an F-35 fighter jet were nearly struck by Houthi air defenses, making real the possibility of American casualties, multiple U.S. officials said.

The measure applies to tourism, business, family visits, exchange and transit, and will be in force until May 31, 2026. Thus, Argentines, Uruguayans, Peruvians and Brazilians now have the same facilities as European and Asian countries, such as Japan and South Korea, which no longer require visas to enter China.

Oh man exit polls in portugal showing the incumbent center-right winning, which isn't shocking, what is surprising is some of them show the center-left and far-right being neck in neck. Right-wing liberals in third place, then in fourth place the europhile pro-war greens, having succeeded in their mission of emptying out the far-left of its less radical voters by taking their program for itself while also presenting itself as safe and european.

Communists could rise a little bit, though it's not looking likely that we'll regain our strongholds in the interior where anti-immigration sentiment has turned the region to the far-right and tactical "anti-fascist" voting leads people to vote for the center-left.

And the Left Block, which just a few years ago was the 3rd most voted party, could end up being the least voted on the left. It's ironic, the europhile green party has done to the Left Block and it itself did to the communist party back in the early 2000s, it came in with a bunch of positive media coverage, an image of being fresh and unimpeded by historical debates (it's anti-ussr) and supported a similar program but less radical and so voters who used to vote for a party to their left (the communist party) shifted right to support the new one, now it happened to them and, again ironically, they could end up getting even less votes than the communists.

I'll be happy if the communist party increases its vote share since that defeats the ever present media narrative that they're about to just poof disappear, especially in the context of having taken a strong anti-war position regarding ukraine, which made it pretty hard to publicly be a communist the past few years tbh, and it gives us a better base to keep growing.

Though, all in all, pretty bad results for the left in general and only the pro-war greens will be heartily celebrating.

These are just exit polls but if the results are confirmed then the governmental situation will stay as it was before the elections, there is no right wing majority without the far-right, and the center right still can't collaborate openly with the far right, so they'll have to depend on the center-left (who are currently being lead by a guy from the left-wing of the party) to pass laws, all the while the questions regarding the PM's personal business dealings are still in the air, though from the results it seems like people don't really care, and really the fact that people don't care that the PM might be corrupt will probably be the greatest factor of stability for this government to last.

Also, of note: Higher turnout than last time, fair to say that maybe in portugal high turnout favours the far right since a lot of people who don't vote get activated by anti-immigration shit.

Understanding the Relationship Between Ansar Allah and Hamas by Moussa al Sadah

Ansar Allah has maintained a principled stance toward the Palestinian cause, even when some Palestinian factions stood against it. Loyalty to Palestine was a revolutionary constant, not a tactical variable. They knew that yielding to divisions or aligning with sectarian polarizations would only serve Zionist interests. Thus, Ansar Allah’s core principles, outlined in the speeches of its leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi, and even the battlefield chants of its fighters amid Saudi-American aggression, all remained anchored amid adversity. Emotionally and ideologically, the movement preserved a deep-rooted, anti-Zionist animus that continues to shape Yemeni political consciousness.

From this foundation, the convergence of the two movements in a moment of revolutionary magnitude on October 7th marked a dramatic shift, one that neither side had fully anticipated. For Hamas and its fighters, a new actor suddenly entered their social and operational sphere, as though they were just now discovering this group long obscured by nearly a decade of Arab and international media distortion and warfare: the so-called “Houthis.”

...

For their part, Ansar Allah offered a principled model of Arab political and sentimental solidarity with Palestine and its resistance movements. The Yemeni movement’s ideological foundation, rooted in the revolutionary teachings of its founder, the martyr Sayyed Hussein Badr al-Din al-Houthi, is exceptional. His vision, forged in the early 2000s and remained unwavering, was pan-Islamic, anti-imperialist, and radically opposed to Zionism. This vision sees the Palestinian struggle not as a slogan, but as an existential Arab cause that demands humility, commitment, and unwavering support.

Unfortunately I must make one of these posts again.

Israeli airstrikes have restated on Yemen, following the launch of multiple ballistic missiles from Yemen towards Israel over the past week. So far, there have been multiple airstrikes on two ports: Hodeidah and Al-Salif. Israel says 10 aircraft and dozens of bombs were used for these strikes, and that they'll attempt to assassinate Abdul Malik Al-Houthi (the leader of the Ansarallah/Houthi movement) if ballistic missile attacks on Israel continue.

Again, it must be noted that the type of airstrikes Israel are likely carrying out now (stand in bombings with 4th generation non stealth aircraft) would not be possible without the actions of the US Navy and Air Force beforehand during their 50+ day campaign. My thoughts on the situation and the US - Yemen seperate bilateral ceasefire.

This image has been shared many times already, including by western aligned accounts, so it's not hidden information:

biggus-piggus At a portuguese right-wing liberal party congress yesterday a climate activist threw green paint on the party leader Rui Rocha during his speech, something similar happened with the PM last year too.

I'm sad to report that unfortunately he handled it pretty well, incredibly so in fact, almost assuring that this will not have any negative effect on the party.

First one of the kids came up with a sign ("So our species doesn't go extinct end fossil fuels 2030") and Rocha immediatly stopped speaking, then another kid came up and Rocha moved towards him and held out his hand, the kid took it, they shook hands, they talked for a few seconds, which gives him the cover of having engaged with the kid's concerns, and then the kid pulled out some green dust and busted on him. He has since said that he'll auction the suit.

If I were a more conspiriatorial guy I could say it was staged but having looked at this group for a while, and also heard from other leftists who know them personally or are involved with them what their intentions with these actions are, it's never staged, these kids just theorize that they just have to get more and more attention on the issue of climate change, so they don't factor in what obvious direct political effects these actions will have, including the increase in support to the people they attack because they've made themselves universally reviled, because they're not in the politics business (that is in the pursuit of power by one mean or another) they're in the awareness-raising business

This party is very economically right-wing and anti-state intervention though so the disdain for them is warranted.

AP News: UnitedHealth Group CEO steps down as company lowers, then withdraws financial outlook for 2025 luigi-dance

It has been a punishing period for UnitedHealth, starting in December when executive Brian Thompson was targeted outside of a New York City hotel and killed. While unrelated to the financial operations of the $340 billion healthcare giant, its shares have tumbled severely since the attack.

UnitedHealth cut its 2025 forecast last month following its first quarterly earnings miss in more than a decade. On Tuesday the company withdrew that financial forecast entirely, saying that medical costs from new Medicare Advantage members were higher than expected.

Shares of UnitedHealth, which have plummeted 38% since the deadly Dec. 4 ambush of Thompson in midtown Manhattan, fell more than 16% Tuesday to levels last seen almost five years ago.

Other big insurers tumbled as well, with Elevance, Humana and Cigna falling between 4% and 7%.

There are many factors that have caused companies to lose value in the last few months, I am curious where UHC would be without this killing though. It's interesting that they saw their first quarterly earnings miss in over ten years. It's hard not to assume that Thompson's death contributed to the company's current issues directly.

https://www.ipsos.com/en/ipsos-ai-monitor-2024-changing-attitudes-and-feelings-about-ai-and-future-it-will-bring

China had the most positive public attitude towards AI out of 23 countries while the US was second to last in a 2024 survey by @Ipsos.

And this was before DeepSeek R1.

Q: “Products & services using AI make me excited. How much do you agree/disagree?”

[–] xiaohongshu@hexbear.net 62 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (5 children)

A bit of a tangent, but the funniest part to me is that nobody (important) in China gave a shit about DeepSeek until prestigious universities in the West like MIT talked about how much of an innovation it was.

Only then did the government realized “oh wow we have something good in our hands (approved by prestigious Western academics!)” and began to roll out this whole initiative about economic transformation with AI.

If the West hadn’t freaked out about DeepSeek, the paper would probably have passed unnoticed amidst hundreds of AI papers published every month, and the government most likely wouldn’t have given a damn thought about it.

This is a serious problem with the Chinese leadership and the elite class, to be honest. A lot of emphasis is being placed on whether Westerners approve of us or not.

And honestly this is nothing new. The same happened with the EV industry too. BYD began its EV production back in 2008 (same year as Tesla), and there had been some initiatives by the government to promote EV as early as 2009 with tax credits. But for the most part, nobody gave much of a damn about BYD or EVs as a whole.

Do you know why the Chinese government suddenly turned its attention to EV and decided to place a big bet on it?

It wasn’t BYD, it wasn’t any Chinese company. It was Elon Musk lol!

To understand this part, we need to go slightly back in time. By the early 2010s, a lot of internet companies in China had accumulated vast amount of capital, and they were looking for new avenues to invest in as their new business ventures. These are your typical techbro companies where their CEOs and employees alike worship Elon Musk.

Tesla delivered the first batch of Model S to Shanghai, China in 2014, to the first dozen of their owners - most of them CEOs from tech companies like Sina, Xiaomi etc. It was also Elon Musk’s first visit to China and was given enthusiastic reception as he passed over the keys to the new owners.

The Chinese leaders were so enamored with Elon Musk that it was in 2014, the EV industry was set to become a national project. They really believed that Elon Musk is some kind of a visionary genius that just showed them a vision of the future lol.

It is not at all controversial to say (I actually read this on Chinese internet) that “Elon Musk is the grandfather of Chinese EV industry.” You can even make the argument that Elon Musk arguably was one of the most important persons who defined the next national priority of the Chinese economy in the 2010s.

Immediately afterwards, at least 300 EV companies were registered in 2014-2015. A lot of them wouldn’t survive the take off, but the traction never stopped and by 2018, at least 500 EV companies existed in China! (Today, less than 50 survived, and it is estimated that the price war would cull off the rest of them to the last 5 or so).

Tesla became the only automobile company in China that is fully autonomous and did not have to partner up with a local company. It is no secret that the Shanghai Municipal government has a lot of affection for Elon Musk that they gave Tesla all kinds of benefits and tax exemptions.

In 2019, the Tesla Shanghai megafactory opened, boasting a “same year construction, same year production” achievement. This acted as a catalyst for the entire Chinese EV industry and it was then, starting in 2020, that the Chinese EV industry really took off, and would surpass Tesla itself in just a few years.

I guess the point I wanted to make is that these leaders really need to stop looking up to Westerners for their approval.

The only evidence so far is of Indian aircraft being shot down, haven't seen any evidence of Pakistani aircraft being shot down.

As far as a technical breakdown, on the first engagement, Pakistan shot down four Indian aircraft (2x Rafale, 1x Su-30MKI, 1x MiG 29) using their Chinese HQ-9 air defence system and J-10C fighter aircraft with no losses, while India achieved a few stand-off strikes on "terrorist targets". Overall I think Pakistan won that engagement, India hit a very limited amount of targets at a very high cost. In hindsight this makes sense, Pakistan has more AWACS aircraft and fighter aircraft with AESA radars. See first, shoot first. However, Indian aircraft should have never been in a position to be shot down, given that they were carrying out stand off strikes, this suggests an poorly planned or ill disciplined approach.

During the second engagement, India hit a large amount of military targets in Pakistan with standoff counterforce strikes, and Pakistan responded with their own counterforce stand off strikes. The engagement was quite disproportionate, with India hitting substantially more targets than Pakistan. In hindsight this makes sense, as the Indian Air Force has substantially better and more diverse stand off strike options: subsonic stealth cruise missiles in Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG, supersonic cruise missiles in BrahMos/P-800 Oniks and Air Launched Ballistic Missiles (ALBM) in Rudram-II and ROCKS. The Pakistani Air Force's conventional stand off capability is quite limited by comparison, with only the CM-400AKG ALBM as an option, the Raad subsonic stealth cruise missiles are nuclear only, leading to Pakistan relying a lot on their rocket troops with the Fatah 1 GMLRS and Fatah-2 Short Range Ballistic Missiles. India also has superior air defence compared to Pakistan, in the S-400 vs the HQ-9. Despite exaggerated claims by both sides, neither side lost aircraft or high level air defence systems in this engagement, but the air defences on both sides also failed to intercept quite a few of these stand off weapons, even if India's air defence faired better. (Pakistan managed to intercept 1 SCALP-EG and 1-2 BrahMos). Pakistan lost a few radars seperate of their air defence systems. Overall India won this second engagement, hitting a lot more targets than Pakistan, and learning their lessons from the previous engagement with no losses in aircraft, as expected from a stand off strike mission.

This conflict is a good example of what multipolarity will truly entail. Countries that have been previously limited in their nationalist ambitions by American pressure will now take opportunities to revolt, sometimes against America itself, and sometimes against other countries in their regional neighbourhood.

The USA still brokered the ceasefire after receiving concerning intelligence, reportedly around potential Indian strikes on Pakistani nuclear forces. The US still very much acted as the "world police".

Ceasefire After 4 Days: Inside Story Of How India-Pakistan Reached Agreement-NDTV

Shortly after the [Indian] strikes, Indian intelligence agencies detected high alert messages flashing across Pakistani defence networks indicating a belief that India might next target Pakistan's nuclear command and control infrastructure.

Strategic installations in Rawalpindi, including offices linked to Pakistan's Strategic Plans Division, reportedly heightened security protocols. It was at this juncture that Pakistan reached out to the United States for urgent intervention.

According to government sources, US officials had already been in contact with both sides in anticipation of escalating tensions. But the alert around strategic assets led Washington to step in more decisively.

At least one explosion took place near a known Pakistani nuclear forces facility, so it doesn't appear to have been a bluff, even if the source of this above information is NDTV.

Gaza Reports Unprecedented Scale of Israeli Bombardments and Humanitarian Catastrophe - Telesur English

Article

The Government Press Office of Gaza has reported that Israel has dropped 100,000 tons of explosives on the besieged Palestinian territory, conducting over 12,000 mass killings since October 7, 2023. According to the report detailing 19 months of relentless war, 11,926 Palestinian families have been wiped out, with 2,200 completely exterminated.

Humanitarian Devastation

Official figures confirm that at least 62,000 Palestinians have been killed or gone missing, including 10,000 bodies buried under rubble. The report also alleges that Israeli forces removed 2,300 bodies from mass graves.

Since the start of the Israeli military campaign, the Palestinian Ministry of Health states that 52,800 Palestinians, including 12,400 women, 1,411 health workers, 113 rescue volunteers, and 214 journalists, have been killed.

Gaza’s healthcare system has collapsed under extreme pressure, with 2.1 million cases of infectious diseases, including 71,338 hepatitis diagnoses, largely due to mass displacement, medical shortages, and failing sanitation infrastructure.

Systematic Destruction of Religious and Aid Facilities

Israeli strikes have reportedly destroyed 828 mosques, damaged 167 others, and obliterated three churches and 19 cemeteries. Additionally, 66 humanitarian facilities, 29 community kitchens, and 37 aid centers have been bombed or severely damaged.

Since March 2025, Israel has maintained an absolute blockade, blocking the entry of 37,400 trucks carrying food and fuel, a policy described as systematic starvation that continues to worsen Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe.

Meanwhile, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

In another comment in the new proposed US military budget, US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth has released a memorandum. What's very interesting is that this is the literal first bullet point in the memo:

To accelerate delivery of war winning capabilities, the Secretary of the Army is directed to:

• Field long-range missiles capable of striking moving land and maritime targets by 2027.

As I've commented previously when first viewing the GOP military budget proposal the US Army wants the latest ballistic missile technology, including the area denial capabilities of anti ship variants, for themselves after witnessing it's proliferation and the Navy being on the targeted end of this technology.

What's also interesting is that the latest fear mongering report from the US DoDs Defense Intelligence Agency, classes Maneuverable Re-entry Vehicle (MaRV) equipped ballistic missiles, and unibody ballistic missiles that can perform similar maneuvers to MaRV equipped missiles (like Iskander-1000) as hypersonic weapons, under the subcategory "aeroballistic missiles".

With this in mind, it's clear that the US military fears a "missile gap" and wants to build their own ballistic missiles, and is making it one of their highest priority topics to address, literally the first bullet point in Hegseth's memorandum. Pershing-III is coming soon I guess, by 2027 according to whiskeyleaks Hegseth

As for why the focus globally is on these aeroballistic missiles, my comment on the previous military budget proposal offers some explanation.

Poland prepares for war - NPR (sorry)

So, is there any evidence whatsoever that Russia intends to invade Poland? Or does Poland maybe intend to fire the first shot here? Or are they just acting out a big paranoid fantasy they have that evil Putler wants to take them over too?

Also the war in Ukraine has been going on for like three years, why now.

Hungary is doing its own version of Foreign Agents Registration Act similar to Georgia (and the US)

Hungary's Fidesz government has proposed a law targeting organizations deemed threats to national sovereignty, primarily those receiving foreign funding and critical of the government. These groups could face financial restrictions, mandatory asset declarations, and increased scrutiny. The government argues this protects Hungary from foreign interference, while critics fear it will stifle dissent and civil society.

The law empowers the Sovereignty Protection Office to blacklist organizations, triggering penalties like loss of tax donation eligibility and stricter oversight of foreign funding. A broad definition of "threats to sovereignty" raises concerns about targeting groups advocating for human rights or environmental protection. Banks will monitor listed organizations' accounts, and the tax authority can suspend funds or demand their return. Critics compare the law to similar measures in Russia, fearing it will restrict freedom of expression and association. The law underscores tensions between national sovereignty and democratic liberties.
