So I guess 4chan is back already huh?

Yup. I got an "are you human" checkbox and wasn't sure if that would disqualify me from visiting.

I swear just last week we were celebrating it's demise

Websites are basic as shit to stand up now, especially when they dont do shit like 4chan.

They probably tossed that fucker up on wix.com. I bet it dramatically improved their security.

It really depends on the board how toxic it is.

People don't realise how similar to reddit it is where there are dodgy subreddits like /r/thedonald or the incel-coded streamer ones that you just learn to avoid when using it.

I haven't checked if it was still up but one of the oldest posts on 4chan - it had been up for 10+ years - was on the papercraft and origami board following one person's progress in building an extremely complicated origami clock that actually functioned as a clock.

being queer and on 4chan is an experience in cognitive dissidence.

[–] knightly@pawb.social 28 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You probably meant "dissonance", but I love the phrase "Cognitive Dissidence" and I'm going to use it all the time now.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 8 points 1 week ago

i did, but i'm glad haha. spelling is not my strong suit, so i spelled it a way and then spell check corrected it to what i put and i just said "you know best spell check"

Honestly the trans community on 4chan is the only one I ever felt at home with. Most queer subcultures are fake AF and those mfers keep it real.

mood but also they're really mean to each other for no reason. I quickly moved to the equivalent reddit communities where people are a bit nicer but still post the same kinds of art and call each other homophobic slurs (affectionate)

it's a "she needs louse bites to live" kinda vibe

  1. Its 4chan.
  2. They learned it from /cgl/
[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

they had an entire /lgbt/ board

[–] Draconic_NEO@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

A lot of the posts to the /lgbt/ board (some people refer to it as /tttt/ for certain reasons) are self-hatred posts, also most of the people who post there are nasty people who have been banned from other spaces for gatekeeping or attacking other queer people i.e. Transmedicalists, and Nonbinary exclusionists (people who don't believe that Nonbinary people are valid at all).

So yeah I do think there is a lot of cognitive dissonance in people posting there, either people who hate themselves and feel the hate is justified, or people who think they're the only real gay or trans people and everyone else outside their group is posing. Basically, either extemely misguided, or extremely nasty people.

There was a time long in the past, where 4chan was the place you could find the most gay porn, and hate for gays, right next to each other.

There's gotta be some kind of physical gap in this anon's brain...

[–] steeznson@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I believe this might be what they refer to as a "shitpost"

What is a chud? I'm guessing it's a play on the term Chad?

[–] GhostedIC@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think a tumblr post popularized it... Basically it went something like "I don't like insulting people by saying they live in a basement, so I use CHUD (Cannablistic Humanoid Underground Dweller, after the horror movie of the same name) instead"

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

there's cinema chuds and everyone else chuds. cinematic chuds are nyc sewer dwelling C.H.U.D.s and appear on the surface to kidnap and feed. everyone else - chuds has always meant racist fuckwits.

it's the bucket that holds your racist hicks, your KKK organized racist fucktype, capitalist-fetish racists, everything from someone who frequently worries about about miscegenation to the mormons who thought black people didn't get into heaven until the 70s when they decided god sent word that, well, maybe some. it's a big, handy bucket.

If the words are related, the relationship is the other way around; the earliest urban dictionary definition is from 2003

[–] Jiggle_Physics@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

the movie CHUD came out in 1984

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Yeah, but I don't know if the word was common slang between then and the urban dictionary entry, whereas I definitely saw it in the mid-late aughts.

true, but I can attest that people were saying it in the 90s. It wasn't as popular, but chud was an insult when I was in high school, in the 90s.
