crocodiles are more closely related to birds than they are to other reptiles

It's why they've reclassified reptiles, birds, crocodiles and dinosaurs under one new grouping replacing reptiles. Reptiles as a grouping excluding birds doesn't really make sense if crocodiles are closer to dinosaurs and reptiles.
