It makes more sense when you fully understand what people mean when they say both sides.
People who want to argue that point take it to mean "both sides are the same". What it really means is both sides are complicit. It's good cop bad cop. The good cop has to keep up appearances, to sell the illusion of choice and safety. While the bad cop takes all the heat.
And if you want evidence, just look at how things have gone in the last 40 years. Republicans take 3 steps right, democrats take 1 step left. Well, do the math. That's a net result of 2 steps to the right without recoarse. Now repeat for 40 years, and you have a situation where it's literally gotten to nazi america tactics.
The old barometer for how far they've gone is when they undid roe v wade. Now, thats so far in the rear view, that we're at a point where unidentified government agents are kidnapping people on the street, without even confirming they have reason to arrest them, and at times killing them in the process.
Let me repeat that. We're at a point where government officials are now grabbing people off the street and killing them, without so much as a confirmation of their identity.
But don't worry, the democrats are going to wave their fingers in a "no no no" motion, real hard. We'll all be fiiiiiiine! Well, unless of coarse you're brown enough, or just mistaken for an opposing opinion.
Yeah. Both sides.
It makes sense why the cult and its leaders call progressives the “extreme left” because the center and the right has shifted so much.
The cult thinks Dick Cheney is the extreme left. They have no idea how far off the cliff they've fallen
There is still gay marriage in this country, and abortion was legal for 30 years. Very, very recently we have taken several steps to the right. Things have become much more open socially.
Damn, the bar really is on the floor, huh? Ya’ll’re gunna have to do a lot better than “gay people are barely allowed to marry in places where they have less of s chance of being beaten or killed for being out” and “we had abortion rights once but those were blown away and now the current admin that’s only just getting started is making sure things only get worse”.
I know them there readin’ skills ain’t top-notch in ‘Merica but maybe you would all benefit from looking to the rest of the world and understanding that the USA is pretty fucking dogshit in comparison to not only a long list of betters but even compared to a few of the countries that it considers to be backwater.
The USA sucks, big time. Horrid place full of horrid people doing horrid things under a horrid system they keep desperately trying to pretend is the only option despite all the evidence even from within their own recent past. Do better.
Gay marriage was a stepping stone. Democratic administrations have led the US forward on civil rights since Lyndon Johnson.
The first country to recognize gay marriage (not civil unions, which parts of the US already had) was the Netherlands in 2001. Almost all of the countries to do so since have been in Western Europe and the Americas. It may be a low bar to you, but it's one that most have not risen above yet.
Look at the context of this thread. "Both sides" bullshit. The judges that nuked abortion rights were all on one side.
Which enlightened country are you from that it only recognized gay marriage in the last 25 years? Is your country immune to right wing propaganda? I'd love to hear how welcoming it is to immigrants of all skin tones.
I’m from Canada, we were one of the first to legalize it, if I recall correctly.
I need you to understand that this pathetic deflection tactic does not fool any but the most profoundly stupid. The US has an insane amount of resources to do so much good for its people and spends way too much of said resources attacking other countries and beating down its minorities and poor people. You’re failing an open book test where the professor is begging you pick the right answer and you’re still dragging your heels and screaming the whole time.
The US is a terrible place, not only for how bad it is but, for me especially, for how it could be so wonderful and actively chooses to be terrible. And then it goes around exporting that bullshit while acting like they had nothing to do with it to really round it all out. Many places are bad but the US takes it to a whole new, greasy place.
Congrats on being a whole 10 years ahead of the US on same sex marriage. Your nation is clearly enlightened.
I'm as pissed off about the direction of the US under Trump as you are. But the US was moving in the right direction for decades before Trump. There will be a push and pull. The Democrats have been the ones moving things forward, and in-fighting in the face of evil will not make things better.
You asked, buddy, and I’m sorry your gotcha fell on its stupid face, I guess?
The USA was fucking crawling forward and it was complaining the entire time. It is a country constantly falling behind in so many quality of life metrics, and in a constant state of barely hanging onto what few rights people had to earn with their lives. I need you to understand that the pace at which it moves is unacceptable and to be even remotely proud of it just shows your ignorance.
The Democrats are probably going to try to run Gavin fucking Newsom instead of AOC because they don’t seem to even want to win and because they don’t want to have someone in power who will push so hard for doing the right thing. Who knows, maybe you idiots will actually rally behind her during the primary, if you even get one of those, and the country can finally start its slow game of catch-up with the rest of the developed world, but I’m not holding my breath.
Good luck.
