Karl Marx, born on this day in 1818, was a foundational political theorist and journalist associated with the philosophy of Marxism.

Among Marx's best-known texts are the "The Communist Manifesto" and the three-volume "Das Kapital", in which he set out to define and explain the behavior of the capitalist mode of production.

Marx's political and philosophical thought have had enormous influence on subsequent intellectual, economic and political history, and his name has been used as an adjective, a noun, and a school of social theory.

Marx's critical theories about society, economics and politics - collectively understood as Marxism - hold that human societies develop through class conflict. In capitalism, this manifests itself in the conflict between the ruling classes (known as the bourgeoisie) that control the means of production, and the working classes (known as the proletariat) that enable these means by selling their labor power in return for wages.

Employing a critical approach known as historical materialism, Marx concluded that, like previous socio-economic systems, capitalism produced internal tensions which would lead to its self-destruction and replacement by a new system known as socialism.

discussion of MMA (consensual, honorable violence)I got served some slop that turned out to not be slop. There's this Chinese MMA promotion called JCK MMA. It doesn't get much, if any coverage in the west. If it did I would have seen this sequence before. It happened over a year ago and it's some of the most mixed mixed-martial-arts I've ever seen.

In JCK Fight Night 83 fighter Zewang defeats fighter Zhikang Zhao with a triangle choke, but not before a breathtaking sequence. For reference, people go fucking insane, and rightfully so, for Mighty Mouse doing a suplex armbar which combines wrestling and BJJ[1]. People know exactly what you're talking about when you mention Ben Askren getting got with a flying knee as well[2]. Well, Zewang combines muay thai, judo, and BJJ for one of the most beautiful sequences I've ever seen. He exploits a dogshit double leg by going for a flying knee, but his opponent doesn't stop. Zhao keeps moving forward so Zewang follows up the showstopping knee with a showstopping uchi mata. Zhao keeps going and tries to scramble up. Zewang goes "uhm, fuck you!" and jumps into a triangle which finishes the fucking match!!

I don't feel comfortable posting instagram links, but the clip is in zewang_mma 's instagram. It's a thumbnail where he's in blue pants kneeing someone in red pants. The one without the text is the full clip.

People love to talk about how they would just do this and just do that if they were in a fight, but if you're up against a tough guy it may not be the end of the fight. Zewang was up against an elite fighter with no quit in him. So he had to literally stop the blood to his brain to get him to chill - nothing else worked. What's crazy to me is that I feel like this clip should be famous. This belongs in the canon right next to Mighty Mouse, Diaz vs McGregor 1, and Cerone's 4 piece. It's such a shame about amerikkka because we should be able to share shit like this.
