Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
  • 5. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language/язык/Sprache
  • This is primarily an English-speaking community. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Comments written in other languages are allowed.
  • The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
  • Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
  • 6. (NEW!) Regarding public figuresWe all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations.
  • Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
  • We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
  • Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.

Please report posts and comments that break these rules!

Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

Is this an April Fools joke?

    [–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 126 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Everyone knows that transwomen prefer Rust due to its borrow checker which ensures memory safety without the overhead of garbage collection.

It's just basic biology, how do people not know this?

    [–] BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca 23 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

Trans men on the other hand prefer Haskell, top biology professors are dumbfounded!

    [–] CrazyLikeGollum@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I would have thought transmen would prefer Python.

!because of it's clearly phallic naming!<

    [–] BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 days ago

Yes, and that's why the professors are scratching their heads.

    [–] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

What does it mean if one likes both?

    [–] bishbosh@lemm.ee 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Oh, those biology professors and their pet slimes...

    [–] 30p87@feddit.org 1 points 4 days ago

    Not every trans woman tho

It has to be. RMS browses the internet by e-mailing a remote machine that wgets the page and e-mails it back to him, then views it in lynx so that JavaScript doesn't run. There's absolutely no way in Hell he'd be on corporate social media.

(I'm not joking, by the way.)

I’ve seen a lot of FOSS purists before, but this guy has gotta be the Linux equivalent of one of those dudes who lives in the forest with a tin hat so the guberment can’t read his thoughts.

    [–] Doxin@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago

It's almost exactly like that only if the tin hat guy would turn out to be right every single goddamn time in hindsight. RMS is... a character at best, but he sure has some predictive powers.

    [–] grue@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

He literally invented the concept of Free Software. So yeah, of course he's extreme about it!

    [–] unhrpetby@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

The difference would be that RMS is extremely well-versed in computer technology. He understands the problems with non-free software.

Someone with his knowledge could choose to disregard those issues for convenience, but Stallman is willing to make great sacrifices.

    Mastodon is corporate social media?

    [–] grue@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What makes you think the fake screenshot is Mastodon? I don't use it so I don't know about fonts and colors and margins matching up, but I'd at least expect there to be an instance name attached to the username.

Also, RMS is certainly not the kind of guy to use social media at all, libre and federated or not.

    [–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 21 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The page behind your link above actually solves the riddle in question:

I have a Mastodon account, @rms on mastodon.xyz, which mirrors the political notes of stallman.org. The person who set up the mirroring chose that site.

The profile picture and colour scheme fits. I'm guessing just the text is edited.

    [–] grue@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Welp, that's embarrassing for me. Good catch!

    [–] django@discuss.tchncs.de 43 points 4 days ago

Look at those numbers to get your answer.

    [–] mogoh@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 days ago

Yeah, but it's true. What if?
