Free Yves Engler (canadiandimension.com)

Engler's arrest has been widely reported by X users, including well-known political commentator Glenn Greenwald and Ali Abunimah of Electronic Intifada (Abunimah was himself unjustly arrested by Swiss authorities last month). Turkish and Iranian media have reported on Engler's arrest, as has the UK-based channel Middle East Eye and the online legal news service Jurist News. However, no mainstream Canadian media have reported on Engler's arrest, and next to no Canadian politicians have condemned his jailing.

From a post on r/Mammoth on Reddit:

"The love and support in this subreddit has been amazing over the last week. I read comments and never chimed in, but it meant so much to see friends of Claire and strangers coming together to root for her. I want you all to know more about her and the amazing person she was. These words are taken from my brother, who says it better than anyone else could.

“I'm heartbroken to share that my 25-year old cousin Claire Murphy died last week in an avalanche while working as part of the ski patrol on Mammoth Mountain in California. It is so unusual for ski patrollers to die in the line of duty that the story has made virtually every single major news outlet in America. It's truly tragic.

Claire was a bright light to everyone who met her. Fierce, opinionated, and strong willed. And so full of love and affection to those around her. She finished her Masters in Social Work at the University of Southern California less than a year ago because she wanted to help others. But before she started her career, she wanted to fulfill a long time dream of being on the ski patrol--a group of people she had grown up admiring as a girl who had skied her entire life.

Life is truly not fair, and this is a harsh reminder of that. We are sad, but so grateful for her good and abundant life even if far too short. Until we meet again, Claire. We're all better for having been loved by you.”

Rest easy Claire.

My girlfriend bought a cafe and they had a cast iron waffle iron that had, in some places, 5mm of grime built up over 2 years, never once been cleaned. Even the hinges were full of old crusted on batter and grease.

I spent hours with a grill scraper scraping every individual pin.

I have gotten to or past the seasoning in many places except in between all of the pins is hell to try to scrape the old baked on grease away. I have tried sodium carbonate soaks, a wire brush and a wire brush on a drill, a few different scraping tools, and I have only gotten about half out of those grooves. Miles better than before, but still not perfect enough to season and put back in the cafe.

Summary

The Trump administration has blocked NIH grant review meetings by halting their required Federal Register submissions, effectively freezing medical research funding in apparent violation of a judge’s order.

The NIH’s actions defy a court ruling mandating an end to funding pauses. Experts warn the delay could cost $1 billion every three days and disrupt life-saving research.

Scientists suspect the move is a covert attack on medical science. If the administration continues to defy court orders, officials could face contempt charges.

The NIH did not provide an explanation for the cancellations.
