This made me smile and ache a little. Your grandpa sounds like a character .... grumpy but golden. I’m a trans woman living in a refugee camp in South Sudan, and it’s wild how we’re all navigating such different lives but still connecting on places like this. If anyone’s ever curious about what surviving looks like from here, my page is open. Solidarity and ice cream to you both.
If governments could actually trace every screw in a phone, they’d be able to stop weapons flowing into conflict zones too. But they can’t. So how could they micromanage tariffs?
Sharing this here too ....any support or signal boosts from this space mean the world to us.

comrades. Things are harder some of us haven’t eaten, and we’re scared with nowhere to go in Juba. If anyone feels moved to help or wants to know how to support, you can DM me or check my bio.
I still believe in solidarity. Thank you for seeing us. 💜

As a proud trans woman and refugee living in a camp after fleeing Uganda’s anti-LGBTQ+ law, I read this with tears in my eyes. I’m fighting daily against hunger, stigma, and silence. I share my story to raise awareness, and I’d be so grateful if anyone took a moment to listen, Just being seen means the world to us.
As a trans refugee living in a camp, I rely on communities like this to survive emotionally and materially. When I post for help, I’m not just fighting poverty, I’m fighting invisibility.
Removing meta posts that question or critique mutual aid requests is vital. Every time someone casts doubt or makes "meta" judgments, it makes people like me feel small, like we have to prove our pain or our worth.
This space should be about solidarity, not suspicion. Please protect it, so people like me can ask for help with dignity without shame or fear.
Hexbear is more than just a social media space .it’s a community built from care, connection, and freedom.
After the ChapoTrapHouse community was banned from Reddit, people came together to create something of their own a space where voices wouldn’t be silenced, where everyone especially marginalized people could feel seen, heard, and safe. Hexbear runs on Lemmy, an open-source platform meaning it’s not controlled by big companies or ads. It’s shaped by real people, for real community. Here, people share news, memes, personal stories, and ideas without fear of judgement or censorship. It’s a home for those who care about justice, kindness, and building something better together. If you’re looking for a space where you can just be yourself, connect with others, and feel part of something real Hexbear is here for you.
