I skip them for the exact same reason.

I also skip most of the holodeck episodes (I would never skip a Moriarty episode though!)

Hawking didn't age poorly.

In the mid 2010's when Tesla started producing real electric cars and SpaceX first landed a rocket on a floating raft, he genuinely seemed like a visionary who was going to fix a lot of our problems.

Unfortunately at some point he decided he wanted to be the source of most of our problems.

It’s okay to be messy if you compliment each others messiness.

I don’t have advice, I just wish you the best.

I've been going through a personal good patch lately, so I'm doing well.

I recently left my old job which had been stressing me and making me miserable and destroying my mental health. The new job is a lot less stress and a lot more of the work I deeply enjoy doing, so I've been enjoying it. For the first time in ages I'm not dreading the fact that Sunday is almost over and I have to go to work tomorrow, so I'm thankful.

I just finished an art piece that I've wanted to make for a while. It's loosely inspired by "Ocean Limited" by Alex Coleville (more the technique and feeling than contet), but it's based on an ontario marsh that I just could not get out of my head for a couple weeks. I'm not a master artist by any stretch, but it's good enough that when I look at the picture my head goes right there, and that makes me happy.

Today I've just been relaxing, so I'm happy right now.

My support has coalesced to the NDP this election, but frankly I’m not feeling motivated by the parties.

The Conservatives need a swift kick to the nuts though for refusing to campaign in Ontario except shitty tv ads.

No costed platform (again), no media interviews, and the only promise is “if just you give us another majority we’ll fix the problems that we let fester through 9 years of majority governance”

Love this community, I’m learning about a ton of new Canadian things this month

Are there any more details for this?

We will freeze income taxes for the 98.2% of Ontarians making under $220,000 a year.

Are we talking just increasing top bracket, more brackets, wealth tax?

Also predates social security. It's the long con for sure.

I always liked these threads on the reddit community, so wonder if we should try them out here

I don’t know if we have critical mass here for weekly threads, but maybe it could help keep this community bubbling up and gaining members.

I know Mr. Carney is going to try to plagiarize my policies right before the election, policies he has long opposed. But don't believe a word. In just a few months ago, did you hear about this, Mr. Carney moved his company headquarters to New York, Donald Trump's hometown. Shifting jobs and investment into the U.S., just like Trump wanted.

He opposed pipelines in Canada while his company bought them in the Middle East. He supported Trudeau's carbon tax in Canada while he profited off of investing in coal in the United States of America. He put his profit before our people. Carney cashed in. Canadians lost out. If he wins, Canada loses.

But Canadians will win, and we will do it with a new bring-it-home economic plan. We will bring home our jobs, investment, and companies, and break our dependence on the United States. We will unleash a fierce free enterprise economy to bring home control of our economic future from outside forces. We will stand on our own two feet, be masters of our own destiny, and be in charge of our own future.

I was out of town the last couple of days and we got a huge snowstorm. When we got home the hot water wasn't working.

I checked the unit, looked up the error code, the issue was the pilot not lighting. The cause was 4' of snow covering the entire exhaust pipe.

I shut down the unit, cleared the snow, built a snow barrier and slope to avoid drifts coming back, then rebooted the unit and it all works!

My sister-in-law is over and she was saying "wow, you're really handy", which is seldom true, so I feel very good tonight.

Plus my wife got a fun picture of me chest deep in the snow shovelling. I'm angling to get it a place on the fridge.

Hey all,

I got back from a few days out of town and my hot water wasn't working.

The ventilation was blocked by over 4 feet of snow that drifted alongside my house completely blocking the exhaust vent.

Make sure to do a walkaround and check your laundry and exhaust vents!

Every night before bed my cat either waits at the bathroom for me or runs into the bathroom at full speed for before bed bathroom time. If I’m up too late he tries to get me to go to bed to keep his routine.

Today he wasn’t there so I just went without him.

After I came out he sat at the door staring at me meowing. My wife convinced me to give him fake bathroom time, so I went to the bathroom and sat down and pet him for a minute or two then left.

Except when I left he just sat at the door, clearly knowing it wasn’t real bathroom time. He’s being yelling and howling since and refuses to come to bed now that I’ve broken our ritual.

What are your suggestions for email providers, domain registrars, GitHub, etc. That can either be self hosted or is hosted outside the US?

Hey all, things are getting tough out there so I wanted to seek out what your tips are for getting a little more value out of cooking

My tips:

  • I throw all my vegetable trimmings into a freezer bag for stock later
  • Breaking down a whole chicken can be cheaper than buying specific cuts. This varies a lot depending on the sales.
  • Save the drippings in your pan after cooking meats. I put them in containers and label them, then use them for flavouring or roux
  • This one will sound weird, but I smell the potatoes at the store. After a while you'll be able to smell a difference in which ones will last longer.

In general I just try and find ways to use up all the bits of food that get discarded.

I'm still only a novice chef, so any of your tips would be greatly appreciated.

No tariffs now?

Just turned on CBC News Network Live and they were talking about how “by far” Melania’s hat is getting the most attention of the day.

I’m so tired of our media. Trump issued at least 26 executive orders, Elon did the nazi salute multiple times, Trump commented on tariffs… but we have to talk about this hat!

For what it’s worth, Wikipedia’s news section seems highly factual and not editorialized. It shouldn’t be this hard to get news though.

Santa Claus Conquers The Martians (1964) on Tubi

This is what my brothers and I consider the weirdest Christmas movie of all time.

It's has some three stooges comedy, children working longing to work the factory, and a delightfully festive and unhinged plot, and is a scathing review of what the 1960's thought the future could be.

P.S. There's also a Rifftrax version which I have not seen.

P.P.S the movie is in the public domain!
