Also make sure that your gas meter (if you have one) is accessible. If the gas needs to be shut off in an emergency, that's where they do it from.

Yep. This has never happened to me before (now I have a new winter chore to complete)
It was really easy to miss the issue because we're tankless so you have to run the tap to get it to heat up sometimes, I thought it was just taking a long time until I heard an ugly noise downstairs.
The furnace has a larger exhaust snorkel thing, so the house itself was warm.
Mine uses my hot water as a heat source to heat the house. I need to replace the pipe. It's too small and frosts over.
