The cold war is over, they are called developing countries now. Your point still stands, the US has lots of developing to do, especially on the social/society front.

Marginal support happens a lot on Linux. See AMD drivers without Adrenaline. "You may use Linux if you must... at your own risk... we do the bare minimum to keep you runnig... our past stuff is in the open but we can pull the rug on future releases any time." You can install gog games and maybe some dude made galaxy work in wine, corporate has decided that is good enough.

Imho, if they decide to put effort into Linux, I'd rather see them put dev resources into heroic to add these features than to make just another client. They are late to the market, that would make the most of it.

I'm kindof a nimby when it comes do giant cockroach farms in my area, please don't scale this up. Don't make "oops 2 billion milkroaches have escaped" a thing.

Looks like their customers have grown up and they tried to follow suit and became boring adults.

Have you seen the protests in greece because there was a train crash and no one in the government is willing to take responsibility? That's what I associate with people hating a government's actions. I've not seen any news of US society breaking their complacency yet. A mass layoff in government institutions as happened in the US has caused plenty general strikes in Europe in the past. Please, you may even protest in the comfort of your cars and clog up a city to make it more American, just organise already :'(
