I remember those 1,000 in 1 discs, they were somewhat common in the mid 90s when CD-ROMs started taking off.

I am not belittling the impact of the smartphone, just being critical of the positioning around iPhone bringing "liberation" and "empowerment". It has the capability to do that, but it also has the capability to enable less positive things.

There are also some inconsistencies in your story.

The iPhone launched without an app store and the app store concept existed even before iOS/Android.

From my experience living in developing countries, work type use cases do not use iPhones. If anything in developing countries an iPhone is exclusively a status symbol.

Claiming the iPhone alone was what got hundred millions of people out of poverty is a ridiculous statement. There are so many other factors at play here.

Sounds like an oligarch propaganda piece.

How has the iPhone contributed to empowerment and liberty? It's a technology tool that can be used for both good and bad things. There is nothing "inherent" about smartphones that leads to empowerment and liberty.

And I don't think he gives a shit about anything beyond his financial position and maintaining his social status and legion of fanboys.

640×200 pixels with 2 colours

Did you ever use this mode?

By the time I got into computing (96), I think 800x600 with at least 16K colours was relatively common.

I am not even sure what you would use 640x200 with two colours.

From my perspective the key point is that Intel claims 18A is at long last ready for production (in 2025H2). The other stuff is all pretty tedious PR

Intel claims 18A is ready for production in 2025H2:

Intel 18A is now ready for customer projects with the tape outs beginning in the first half of 2025.

A neat techology concept, but the drawbacks do seem rather severe:

While the technology looks interesting on paper, a number of practical challenges arise. First up, we are talking about relatively low airflow volumes compared to traditional fans. Secondly, there are particles in the air (dust, aerosols, etc.), and charged particles tend to attract each other with opposite charges or are attracted to surfaces that have an opposite (or grounded) charge. This greatly increases the risks of accelerated dust accumulation, and dust not only traps heat but can cause short circuits or corrosion of components. As high voltages are required to charge particles, they can create byproducts like ozone, and they can be harmful to electronic components, corroding metals, and degrading plastics or rubber over time.

Agreed, the title isn't particularly clear, but you can interpret it as "a scandal involving Seagate products" as opposed to "a scandal with Seagate".

Note: I would have preferred to link to the original article, but it's on Twitter and I am on mobile so taking screenshots is a pain.

You don't need to write a paper or even provide links.

If you actually had a legitimate arguement (and weren't just parroting copytext that you don't really understand beyond "I think it makes me look cool and independent"), you would have been able to summarize it in a few sentences in your own words.

This is not rocket science.

A Tandy device (guessing without doing a web search)?

I started using computers around 95/96. Our consulting professor did show us an example of Tandy laptop back when I was doing a masters degree in the 2010s.

And if you're incapable of presenting your message even with a modicum of nuance, and you're forced to revert to comical parroting of what is essentially political spam, then what you're saying is almost certainly complete BS.

Try and promote what you're saying in a nuanced way. You won't be able to. We both know this!

Prove me wrong! ;)

So what that you're a leftist?

You were taking about "educating me" and the best you can come up with is a standard copytext that's spammed everywhere?

At least come up with something new and interesting not the standard word salad about the Federal Reserve.

5000 series has largely been subpar IMO. In a competitive market they would have been forced to keep the 4000 series in production, but we don't have a competitive market for GPUs.
