surely only the 4 front black pawns can advance, all other pawns are locked in place by the polarising media owned by the elite

unless the 4 white pawns at the back become queens and can advance in any direction, because they're glamourous trendsetters from wealthy backgrounds who also want to take down the elite

While we're at it, the elite white side has no shortage of pawns making over $100k with a nice sign-on bonus.

And if a pawn gets promoted, it's a class traitor and becomes your opponent's piece?

how about that counts as breaching the armoury and having access to their weapons?

[–] Luisp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

becomes a stalin piece

[–] yetAnotherUser@discuss.tchncs.de 35 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I don't think it would be particularly fun.

Sacrifice a tower (I forgot the English name) to get access to a corner, then get the queen in the lower left/right corner within 3 moves.

Then pick up the pawns one after the other from behind. The pawns themselves cannot move quickly to the other side because they need to keep a "triangle" formation for safety which requires time to build up.

[–] HakunaHafada@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 week ago

The word you're looking for is Rook.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Still, a good way to get rid of some troublesome pawns.

[–] Pringles@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm not sure a sacrifice is even needed. You just need to get the queen to the backline and wreak havoc.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If they stay in formation you can always force a sacrifice. The pawns will always capture at least one piece.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, but you can kill off like three elites towards one side and you'll have open access to get behind the pawns with a queen or rook and just lay waste unchecked.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, that's what the first comment above was saying. The one I responded to was wondering if a sacrifice is necessary, and I'm pretty sure it 100% is. It's still trivial to win, but you do need to lose a piece.

[–] absentbird@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But the queen can move diagonally between the formation.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah, there are ways it could be done, but only if the other player makes a horrible mistake. You wouldn't leave an opening like that where the queen can move. Maybe with queens, bishops, and knights combined you could force an opening. I don't know. It seems unlikely though. I guess a key exploit would be that they have to always move forward, but you can stall forever. Maybe that allows you to exploit a gap.

Is this a commentary on how some of the pawns get to the end and become Queens, thus perpetuating the cycle?

[–] Toribor@corndog.social 24 points 1 week ago

It would be funny if there was a condition that made them join the other side after being promoted.

[–] Luisp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 week ago

When the pawn get to the end trotski and lenin die mysteriously

Once you show the horsies that they're being treated like disposable animals it's gg

[–] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 14 points 1 week ago

Anecdotal but I have not enjoyed it so far.

[–] Moonweedbaddegrasse@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

I remember playing something similar back in the day, the difference was that the pawn side got to move twice each turn.

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What happens if one of the ruling class pieces gets behind the pawns, couldn't they pick them off slowly?

[–] notabot@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

Pawns can be promoted to queens when they get to the other side, and when the elite pieces get past the pawns they get promoted to 'media', and can slowly, but surely, pick them off.

Variations like this are pretty standard for chess students.

Sounds like an advanced version of Fox Game: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_games

[–] MrSulu@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If this might be a euphemism for billionaires fighting or controlling wider society, there would be at least 1000 rows of pawns.

[–] PushButton@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

And half the white pawns are capturing the black pawns because they are "cops".

Good luck winning that game.

[–] drath@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Seems way too stacked in favor of black. In fact, I feel like it's a forced win in like 30 moves or less. Can someone knowledgeble plug this into fairy stockfish or something to confirm?
