Here's the deal: you get to trade stocks OR you get to be a senator. He can make his own choice.

Rick Scott the Insurance Fraudster, insider trader and possible snake human hybrid.

[–] Photuris@lemmy.ml 39 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I’m not very politically astute, and I’m not a legal scholar, by any stretch.

But, after reading a little bit about this Columbia HCA Medicare fraud stuff, I’m puzzled as to how this guy avoided jail, and in fact went on to prosper and become a US Senator.

Our system is a sham.

Florida + money + blackmail. That was Jeffrey Epstein's recipe for success and it worked for Rick Scott too.

No, I didn't need bulk cocaine any time I've visited the state. I've heard burn notice tones it down a bit.

We need a citizen-led court to pass judgement on these people because our two-tiered justice system is rotting from the head.

The same citizens who elected him senator?

You have more faith in our citizens than I do.

Rick Scott is literal human garbage. He is the perpetrator of the single largest Medicare fraud in history - stole from his needy constituents to line his own pockets while they suffered and died.

How it’s even possible for him to be elected, or allowed to hold office, is beyond me and beyond reason.

[–] AlligatorBlizzard@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm trans and originally from Florida. Rick Scott getting elected in spite of the Medicare fraud was enough for me to realize Florida would continue to get worse, so I left.

Florida is a sunny place for shady people.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

Glad you got out homie, yeah that’s a great description of FL

Yes sir absolutely, you can make money

Insider trading however is illegal for a reason (ahem)

Corrupt idiots in politics -- "I'm sorry I got caught"

"Does anybody want to be poor? I don't. So this idea of attacking people who make money is wrong"

What the fuck kind of reasoning is that? I don't want to be poor so just let me do whatever the fuck I want to make money. Fuck off with your pathetic bullshit.

[–] Geobloke@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

According to wiki the salary is $170 000, so that isn't poor. Is that right?

It's not about people wanting to limit politician earning capacity, it's about playing by a different set of rules

[–] Skiluros@sh.itjust.works 34 points 2 days ago

He is essentially signalling to other pro-crime Americans: "if you go after me, you will never get a chance to steal and benefit from corruption!"

[–] School_Lunch@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Of course everyone wants to make money. Its about HOW the money is made. If we lived in a meritocracy the way they claim, then you can measure how hard someone works by their wealth, and you're gonna sit there and tell me there are people who work a BILLION times harder than the average person? Get the fuck outa here. Billionaires only exist because they are taking more than they deserve, and its gotta come from somewhere. They are stealing from all of us and devaluing our labor.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 7 points 2 days ago

I don't really want to make money. I want food and shelter and experiences at a modern standard. Im am not looking for massive luxury. There is an amount that is enough. Some people want to make money to live and others just want to make more money. Congressmen get paid enough to live fine.

[–] Windex007@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Not even about what you want, it's what do you want MORE.

Do you want to be in a privileged position of elected power faithfully serving the best interests your constituents?

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Well they want the position to make a shitload of money. Isn't it funny how people who are career politicians are filthy rich.

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Fuck this crypt keeper

[–] ryper@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We should cherish all of our different backgrounds

Is he talking about diversity? I was told that is evil.

[–] shane 6 points 2 days ago

I assume he means a diversified investment portfolio.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

This caught me off guard like a Harry Potter chocolate frog card.

[–] blindbunny@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He's not a billionaire but he'll have to do.

He's pissed we're trying to keep him from becoming one.

[–] lemmy12369@midwest.social 4 points 2 days ago

That’s rich from rick.. dont come after me (even though i play the game) but lets stop it bc it’s bad (bc making money for everyone else has to stop) except me, me rich, me have company..

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

He sounds drunk.

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

[–] hddsx@lemmy.ca -3 points 2 days ago

As someone with an interest in ethics and philosophy, could you please describe how you came to the conclusion that it is wrong?

Thank you for your attention on this matter
