I don't want to support a company that treats people like that. These guys killed the golden goose and now they're trying to sell you gold-foiled shit.

The studio trying to get more money out of the game after firing every person whose creativity and skill made the game what it is leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. As far as I could see, this is the source of the vast majority of the negative comments.
It's like when people praise Disco Elysium and add "but don't buy it because the creators won't get any money from it". Same feeling of defensiveness about the original team.
Steal this game!
If I can find an apk, I probably will
Logic [Medium: Success]: Supporting the remaining developers and the publisher who essentially got rid of the original staff over supposed financial issues likely does not set a good precedent for other developers. Such malpractice should not be further supported.
From what I know, the original creators of the first game will not get a cent from it
That sucks and makes sense considering the troubling developments and feuds surrounding the development studio
No. Fuck thief corpos.
"Disco Elysium for the TikTok generation" is an oxymoron. It's like reading a 100 page abridged Readers Digest version of James Joyce's Ulysses. It's missing the point.
Furthermore, I am uncomfortable with changes and alterations being made to the game without the original creators participating. It's the same reason I am vehemently against the extra fanfiction added in the Collage Mode patch, which at least Argo Tuulik I believe it was (or maybe Martin Luiga) has said should be considered non-canon.
Finally, none of the minds who created the world and the writing we all love will get a cent from this mobile game. The only original creator still in the studio is Anton Vill I believe, who drew the thought cabinet.
I have very mixed feelings about it but the only game on my phone is a crosswords app :D
Mobile ports can come with losses in usability, graphics and audio. DE being the masterpiece it is may suffer from this port I guess that's what caused the negative reaction. I played it on the steamdeck and it was already less user-friendly than the PC version so it's not completely unrealistic to be wary of what's to come.
E.g. I can imagine that it's going to be annoying if you want to collect bottles and other small stuff without having to heavily zoom in and the have to zoom back out to keep the overview of your surroundings and decide where to go next.
In the end I'm not against adding a smartphone version but I'd never play or recommend it since I feel like you need a bigger screen and better input options to properly enjoy it. But having my reptilian brain whisper things in my ear while commuting sounds very intriguing
From what I could gather in gameplay trailers, the game features a different first-person-ish (?) perspective compared to the isometric top-down perspective in the original that accommodates issues you'd get with size of items and interactions. I haven't looked into it too thoroughly so it might still be hard to play compared to a PC or console version, but I'm sure that they're at least aware of this.
I just hope it's playable, doesn't cost too much, and is as feature-complete as the OG game
Reading this I can add another rather irrational point to the list: When people like something, they don't want to change it. A different user perspective may be a good and necessary change to accommodate smartphone users but my first reaction was like: ರ_ರ
But it's stupid because the game I'm playing won't change it will be just another option which could be cool (given they fulfill the requirements you already mentioned) and make the game available to a broader audience. And still it stings because they don't do it the right way ... Is this how backwards bigots feel about people living non heteronormative lives? ;D
I get what you mean. It's like the debate people have over difficulty settings in soulslikes ( !soulslike@lemmy.zip :P) over the fear of losing their accolades in the face of fellow players, "pride and accomplishment" over overcoming a huge challenge and things like that. It's a stupid issue at heart because, as you've said, your experience is your own and isn't taken away from by having more options available to you. But I do get your worry and would probably react in a similar if it were happening in a franchise more dear to my heart than Disco Elysium (although it's getting there).
Imagine if by adding a mobile port all other versions of the game were taken offline in favour of the mobile port. Now that would suck :D thankfully, that's not happening, so I'd argue in a similar way as you that having more options is good, objectively speaking. The implications of what this port means, how it's done, the price, the gameplay all remains to be seen, of course.
Just.. never play without audio, please? :D
Absolutely - pinky promise 🤙🏻✨
