If Macaron is their picture of great leader, they are truly cooked.

a United States of Europe

That has got to be the most cucked thing a European has ever written.

Also, loooooooool at the idea of those seven countries merging into one, let alone whatever other 13 unnamed countries they have in mind. This is the most pathetic combination of neoliberalism and Retvrn to Tradition, restore the Holy Roman Empire in order to quell the Slavic horde feudal revivalism.

My favourite thing is when liberals think they invented some new thing and turns out it already was dunked on by communists a century ago.

As someone living in the area, I would prefer if the French and German elites kissed and got married before the American security shield collapsed, just in case they start thinking reviving old traditions.

That is to say, out of purely materialistic reasons it is preferable that Europe is able to form its own unified pole in a multi-polar world rather than be the play piece of others in a massive divide-and-conquer game. (Even if that would be poetic justice)

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago

Sure, but a strategic alliance is a much more workable version of that than reviving the Carolingian state.

glazing over macron

poland in the "federation"

data-laughing they don't know the extent of Polish nationalism

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is it greater than the propensity to bootlick Western Europeans?

No.

The true core of Polish nationalism is the messianistic idea of being the forefront of Europe against Asia, as expressed literally from the year 966 onwards and last time expressed greatly by the romanticist poets like Mickiewicz and Słowacki. Bootlicking west was and still is inevitable, and it's clearly seen on many examples though Polish history, current stance on Ukraine being yet another great example.

The second core of Polish nationalism is that there was always much more yelling and saberratling than actions.

Consequence of both is that Poland always was geographically at the forefront, but politically in the tail of the west.

visible-disgust

There's something so...I'm not sure if I can find the words for this sort of thing. "Smugly ignorant" maybe? About this sort of thing? "Alt-history" stuff in general usually grinds my gears, because it usually completely ignores everything about actual history and how humans work in order to make their "steampunk nazis" or whatever make sense. This gives me that same sort of frustration. It's awful, because it has no understanding of...anything really. It's just "Europe becomes great again and Macron Sue leads the way through special magic powers." Fuck. I'd rather they say that Macron discovered Charlemagne's tomb or something and he granted Macron magic powers to unite Europe, at least that would be a kind of interesting idea. Instead it's just awful fanfiction about a do-nothing leader whose most notable trait is being groomed by his high school teacher.

Federal Europe has been a dream of euro neoliberals for a while now.

I suspect. It is probably the only way that Europe will survive and regain any form of competitiveness or sovereignty in the world.

The alternative is the EU collapsing and the entire region becoming extremely unstable, which will lead to wars, revolutions, interventions and so on. Couple this with climate change and a billion climate refugees adding instability to the mix and I believe it's the most likely outcome.

I thought that was the plan, but 2022 revealed how deep Europe is vassalised by the USA. They can still theoretically do it, but it would require shifting the alliances at least 90 degrees on, which is impossible since they failed to even shift 1 degree in the face of blatant sabotage and act of economical war waged on them by the USA.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 1 points 21 hours ago

I think it's still the plan, remilitarising is part of removing the military dependency.

There really is no other plan, it may be unlikely to work for them but they're going to try rather than do nothing and see global leadership and strength slip away from them entirely.

Yeah, I think this is the most likely too. Guess we'll see what these revolutions look like doomer

More importantly to this fanfic, I assume Macron's wife who groomed him when he was a teenage boy has now passed away from old age so does that mean he has now remarried and if so is his new wife another older lady or is it the problematic age gap itself that turns him on and his new wife is now half his age?

Either way, very French

[–] NPa@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

He gets her mummified and stays married with her, rolls her around in a giant glass coffin like Lenin and gushes about how she's never looked better

[–] brain_in_a_box@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago

He's remarried to Mr. Burns' 120 year old mother

[–] Biggay@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

he grooms his 2nd wife into the first female president of the USE in 2085

IT'S HER TURN

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Lmao the only way western Europe would be united under Macron would be if he was literally Napoleon reborn and managed to conquer all of it

He barely managed to crush dissent on tiny New Caledonia, was too short for even the most exploited Sahel states so you can already tell how it would go.

[–] cmhickman358@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

I especially appreciate the shoehorning in of the "former Soviet Republic." It has absolutely nothing to do with the story, but makes sure everyone knows that this is somehow those pesky pinkos fault.

[–] NuraShiny@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

Macron was their dream guy for this? He's the most likely to be murdered while in office I guess, so that counts for something maybe.
