U.S. Congress members from both sides of the aisle have introduced a bill in the House of Representatives that would grant President Donald Trump the authority to allow Israel access to B‑2 stealth bombers and bunker‑busting bombs if it becomes clear that Iran is continuing to develop nuclear weapons.

According to the proposed legislation—currently awaiting approval—this would enable unprecedented operational cooperation, including deployment, equipment and training, but without transferring permanent ownership or direct control to Israel.

Access

In short term, this would mean USAF pilots under IDF command. They are saying longer term, parking B2s with training of IDF to use them. This would escape aid from budget constraints, but Israel aid is already not part of military budget because State department forgives loan instead. A future US government that is not Zionist Israel first ruled, would still not get the planes back.

I want to have some spympathy for Isreal as I would hate to live with terrorist attacks and rocket barraged constsntly, but this is just too much and has gone on too far. New government is the only way forward, with how long they have had power it seems more like a dictatorship than a democracy. New fresh peaceful ideas and new people are the only way forward.

Israel is one of the leading states of the USA.

... I'm guessing, but they prob have overall better public schools, pubic healthcare, startup funding, etc.

It's like they get federal funding or something, tho they don't pay taxes (duh, they are an independent country).

I imagine this so Israel can continue attacking Iran and the US can distance themselves from the political fallout, while still reaping the 'benefit' of Iran's military capabilities being damaged.

Gotta wonder when Russia and China will decide to be more open in this new cold war and hand larger weapons to Iran.

Russia seems to be actively colluding with Israel as it refuses to sell any anti-air defense systems and fighter jets to Iran. Whereas Russia is happily selling to India and Turkey.

Not sure what is happening with China. The Iranian defense minister went to China after their war with Israel was over

While their strategic interests might not always align perfectly it's important I remember that Putin and Netanyahu are personal allies. Cuz I guess fascists tend to get along.

United States of Israel

I wouldn't have too many complaints if we chose to deliver a single bunker buster to Netanyahu via B-2. Doesn't sound like my scenario is what they intend though.

This can't possibly play well over the long run. Israel is already getting isolated as a peace destabilizer. Given the rightward trends in Israel, combined with having these bombers, the likelihood of them restraining themselves from pulling the trigger isn't too high. I guess we'll see if the Qatari jet worked its magic.

[–] WhatsHerBucket@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I was just debating whether it would cost more than a jet for those bombers. What do you get for someone that has everything?
